Sainsburys is posh, isn't it?

I mean it is toward the upper end of Poshness isn't it? Coming after Harrods food hall, Selfridge food hall, Booths, M&S, Waitrose then Sainsbury's.

Artisan shops and veg box deliveries probably come between M&S and Waitrose I reckon?

It's definitely posher than Tesco.

I don't know why I've done this op actually. I am so not unreasonable.

Do they still do stamps? Lol.
I miss my little coop. The new nisa isnt the same

VirgilsStaff · 05/02/2017 20:29

Our local Booths is so posh, I've seen a bunch of the local public school boys buying their lunchtime quinoa salad there

where I used to live, they did local salt marsh lamb, potted shrimps, and gorgeous wine (plus tastings)

I find Waitrose a bit bland, and I find the pride people take in shopping there amusing

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:29

Budgens is a proper shop. Like a Co op

My DM used to pronounce Co Op Coop until someone told her.

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 20:32

Coop! Bless. They are good though. Good selection of wines and cheese.

motleymop · 05/02/2017 20:34

tired - Pissed on the floor????!!!! Please explain!! Who is 'they'?

LuluJakey1 · 05/02/2017 20:34

I don't think of M and S as a supermarket really, but in my head the order is:

Booths
Waitrose
M&S
Sainsbury's

Then big gap in quality

Tesco
Morrison's
Lidl/Aldi
Asda

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:34

Who remembers Safeways??

And Somerfield??

And Fine Fare??

Those were the days....

Limurz · 05/02/2017 20:34

Sainsbury's is not posh! I would put it above Morrisons but on par with Tesco.

motleymop · 05/02/2017 20:35

I have been in many''s the small Tesco or Sainsbury in London that has reeked of piss - who is doing it and why?

DorkusDelonghi · 05/02/2017 20:36

Selfridges Food Hall is also posh.

I am woefully disappointed though as I was excited at the new posh place "Fortunes"Blush

Only to realise they'd mis-spelled Fortnums.

Prime Now seem to do some market foods that are trying to be posher than the grocery stores.

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 05/02/2017 20:36

shudders at memories of the revolting Sainsbury's at Oxford city centre

ohto as stoodents we used to call that Sainsbury's 'Moscow' because there was never any food there. Grin

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 20:37

Somerfields was ok. That is now our m and s foodhall!
It was much cheaper.
Safeway was expensive. Bought out by sainsburys.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:38

I thought everyone in Sainsbury yesterday had wet themselves ... until I realised it was the entire floor.

LuluJakey1 · 05/02/2017 20:38

Anyone remember Walter Wilson's ?

motleymop · 05/02/2017 20:38

BTW - I think Tesco is better than Sainsbury. Neither are posh - people who shop I'm Sainsbury may rate themselves as posher than Tesco shoppers but I think Sainsbury is rubbish.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:39

Safeway was dead common by us in my childhood. There was a huge one in Clydebank and a smaller one on Knightswood. These are not posh places.

CheerfullyIndifferent · 05/02/2017 20:39

ILikeBeansWithKetchup my local Somerfield is now a co op. I quite liked Somerfield...

HoneyDragon · 05/02/2017 20:40

I'm old enough to remember a time when Safeways was classier than Tesco.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 05/02/2017 20:41

Fine fare/Kwik save/food giant/Somerfield... same junk.... different names

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:41

I miss the Safeways brown bags.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:43

The Jump is on C4 now. All the posh ones have skied before. I think we should ask them where they shop.

Safeway was ok ( not cheap, but ok) near where i used to live. Then it became Sainsburys, it was extended, petrol bit moved in. It all changed.
Wherever i live the supermarkets all change!

user1481838270 · 05/02/2017 20:45

I'd rate Aldi and Lidl as posher than Tesco.

Tesco seems to believe its customers rarely cook and is becoming increasingly full of processed food. It can now be quite a challenge to locate bags of uncooked rice in an unfamiliar Tesco as these are completely swamped by shelves of express preprepared rice.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:46

The80s - I think your user name says it all. Ah. The supermarket nostalgia. Life all changes around us doesn't it?
