Sainsburys is posh, isn't it?

I mean it is toward the upper end of Poshness isn't it? Coming after Harrods food hall, Selfridge food hall, Booths, M&S, Waitrose then Sainsbury's.

Artisan shops and veg box deliveries probably come between M&S and Waitrose I reckon?

It's definitely posher than Tesco.

I don't know why I've done this op actually. I am so not unreasonable.

I'd say:

I'd say it's -

Farmers market / organic veg boxes
M&S
Waitrose
Ocado
Sainsbury's
Aldi (if you pop in for a few bits and it's an event)
Tesco
Morrisons
Aldi (if you do your entire shop there)
Asda
Lidl

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 20:13

User, the lidl here is undercover. Some park round the corner i reakon and do the ' put it in the waitrose ' bag wheeze.
I take my sturdy lidl bags in waitrose to piss the, off. And shake it out at the till. I am a rebel

ENinthePWert · 05/02/2017 20:13

Where I live the Sbos is very run of the mill, on a par with the industrial estate As Da and Li Dl. The store is poorly stocked and the staff have absolutely no interest. Morale seems low.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:13

People at Waitrose in towns are anxious lib dems. In country towns they hunt . So Tories, I guess.

Morrisons may well be SNP. Right colours.

AQuietMind · 05/02/2017 20:13

Shoutout for Budgens??

only us then?

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:15

I think Budgens must be region specific. Certainly not the Booths of the South! Just been bought out by Tescos - sad face at corporate monsters.

HoneyDragon · 05/02/2017 20:16

Waitrose bought out our Budgens down here.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 20:16

No Budgens here , ( essex) but i may have seen a petrol station one once?
Petrol stations, even they are now mini shops! Not like the old days.

HoneyDragon · 05/02/2017 20:16

As in the shop itself not the corporation

OP posts:
ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:17

You see Honey? It's posh by you!

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 20:19

Service stations that sell crappy pies and overpriced burgers etc have little m and s and waitroses in there! Its all wrong! ..

Chelazla · 05/02/2017 20:19

My very wealthy friend told me that apparently aldi and lidl are now the chioces for the struggling middle classes who have spent all their money on school fees and boden!!Grin

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 05/02/2017 20:20

Budgens is a funny one. I always had it pegged as a slightly dowdy corner-shop brand, maybe a couple of steps above Londis and your average London food-and-wine, but the one on Upper Street in Islington has a phenomenal selection of champagne and the one in Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds is like a Whole Foods, it's so smart. I actually took a picture and sent it to a friend when I went in.

HoneyDragon · 05/02/2017 20:21

Yeah but the M&S is in the BP garage which drops in down the scale of posh.

OP posts:
HoneyDragon · 05/02/2017 20:23

It's great, if you're driving and you want a drink you can't get a can of Monster but you can get coconut water with a straw in a fucking coconut shell. Not for the average cup holder is that.

OP posts:
bananafish81 · 05/02/2017 20:23

Our local budgens on Upper st has an olive counter, freshly caught crab, venison steaks - it's ridiculously posh. It's posher than the Islington Waitrose in some aspects!

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 20:23

Co op. Its the left out mate here.
It is under rated.

conserveisposhforjam · 05/02/2017 20:24

M and s over Waitrose?! Heresy! Shock

I think you'll find the MN consensus is that 'm and s only exists to keep the riff raff out of Waitrose'

I haven't RTFT of course...

flowersandfoxes · 05/02/2017 20:24

Isn't budgens a petrol station type shop? Like Lidl? We don't have these mini supermarkets in the sticks. There is a a Co-Op - I don't get the pronunciation thing though, how many ways are there to pronounce Co-Op?

Sugarlightly · 05/02/2017 20:25

No I see it on par with Tesco and Asda. Waitrose and m&s are a bit posh. Not sure how I feel about Morrisons and I think Aldi and Lidls poshness level depends on where they are!

Used to work in Sainsbury's and they certainly try to brand themselves as "posh" but personally don't see it. I prefer Tescos - the stores near me feel "fresher" which I know is weird but all the Sainsbury's are old and dingy.

HoneyDragon · 05/02/2017 20:25

I love the Co-Op Nud card holders get 10% off too.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 20:27

Sainsbury lost it a bit when it dropped the J!
It was upmarket once. It needs to up its game

TheOnlyColditz · 05/02/2017 20:27

A tiny bit posher than Tesco but frankly it can be cheaper as the own brand stuff is quite nice

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 20:28

coOP

or CO OP

The first is posh. Because it is short for Cooperative, so my Stepmum says coOP.

tiredofhavingtothinkofnewnames · 05/02/2017 20:28

I think you'll find the MN consensus is that 'm and s only exists to keep the riff raff out of Waitrose'

I agree (sorry typical MN then) , M&S is pensioners fighting over the £10 deals and reduced stuff. Or people buying a treat (i.e. they cant afford to shop there for everything)
