Sainsburys is posh, isn't it?

I mean it is toward the upper end of Poshness isn't it? Coming after Harrods food hall, Selfridge food hall, Booths, M&S, Waitrose then Sainsbury's.

Artisan shops and veg box deliveries probably come between M&S and Waitrose I reckon?

It's definitely posher than Tesco.

I don't know why I've done this op actually. I am so not unreasonable.

Indeed, how can a supermarket be posh? The very concept is the antithesis of posh - mass produced / factory farmed goods piled high.

IWantAnotherBaby · 06/02/2017 15:07

Posh? No, not even slightly! Neither are M&S or Waitrose though, just a bit more expensive. I find it stocks a good range of products that I can't necessarily get at Tescos, so have now more or less stopped going to Tesco except for a few specific things. I do shop at M&S sometimes. No Waitrose nearby. I have recently (as in last fortnight) started buying from Aldi (after Which? recommendation) and have been pleasantly surprised.

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2017 15:13

The new Waitrose by us has a wine bar and a sushi bar. That's quite posh.

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 15:28

There's a Sainsbury's in Zone 2 with a sushi bar now that I think of it. Staffed with 2 full time sushi 🍣 chefs.

Those really look like pork loins.

BoboChic · 06/02/2017 15:34

It's not posh to have a meal out in a supermarket.

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 15:38

Waitrose is a few miles from us, but that has a sushi bar now too. i hate sushi! My son and g/f just go there for that - they are mad.
The sainsburys near me has a great cafe, not that big but really nice well cooked food and friendly staff. Its very reasonably priced too, although it did make me laugh one evening when they said they were out of most things i wanted - err, theres a whole supermarket of food just outside the door!

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2017 15:43

Not a meal. Tapas and wine. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2017 15:43

It's probably not that posh to have a bacon bap and a cup of builder's tea in Asda. Wink Grin

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 15:48

It's not posh to even be in a supermarket, I agree. I am not fond of any of them.

This kind of thing goes on:
"Irate Frenchman hurled Camembert at manager of Chelsea Waitrose"

It's practically a battle zone.

BoboChic · 06/02/2017 15:52

Posh is:

  • having deliveries
  • buying your food direct from the producer
  • specialist shops where you are known by name and you can ring up to place orders (no deposit required because you are a trusted loyal customer)
Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2017 15:56

I don't think having deliveries is in the least bit posh. Iceland deliver. Wink

Not sure about 'specialist shops' that could mean anything. ShockGrin

I am a fan of PYO so that's direct from the producer. I am posh in that sense.

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 15:57

Pilfer your own?

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2017 15:58

How very dare you Dorkus every single plum went in my punnet. Grin

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 16:04

What is an Artisan box? is it bread, pasta that type of thing?
I do love a nice farm shop though - the ready meals look really healthy, the cakes are all home made, but pricy! The one i went in the other week had tiny little trollies for the kids, so sweet (although a pain to wheel around for the poor mums as the aisles are so small)
it does seem a world away from my normal supermarket shop.. so much more civilised! lol

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 16:05

Oh sorry. I am strictly City. I got it now. pick your own. I genuinely didn't know! Blush

Trainspotting1984 · 06/02/2017 16:11

Morrisons has sushi bars in the suburbs and has for years Not that poshGrin sushi hasn't been exotic for about 15 years. And our M&S had a champagne and oyster bar

Trainspotting1984 · 06/02/2017 16:12

(And isn't in a posh area)

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 16:17

What is an Artisan box? is it bread, pasta that type of thing?

We buy a fair bit of wanky artisanal foods but I've never heard of an Artisan box. Where did you hear of such a thing?

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2017 16:17

Urgh Champagne and Oysters in M&S? that's desperation isn't it? When you say 'had' is it no more?

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 16:18

blimey, champagne and oysters!
The lakeside m and s had a lovely fresh deli counter that did the best lasagna you could take home and heat up, but it didnt last long, sad to say.
I have a feeling this sushi bar in waitrose wont be around for long either..
I tend to shop everywhere, i dont have a favourite shop for food, but i do believe that some people see certain stores as better than others.
Its a kind of status symbol to be seen pushing the 'right' trolley. all madness.

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2017 16:18

Is an Artisan box full of Artisanal food?

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 16:26

dunno, i know i have never ventured down this route with boxes of stuff being delivered, unless its wine at christmas!
have to look it up..

CommunionHelp · 06/02/2017 16:32

Sainsbury's is alright for some things, but 'posh' nope, not really.

We get four food deliveries a week, buy milk from a local dairy and a few things from other places. That said, we shopped in a Lidl for the first time two weeks ago whilst away from home and needed a few things. I was pleasantly surprised actually. A lot of crap, but quite a lot of really nice produce. I'll probably go in one again if I see one.

I think M&S food is insanely overrated.

coldcanary · 06/02/2017 16:33

It's not posh at all Grin!
The own brand gin is great for putting a load of fruit in for flavoured gins - it tastes like piss with tonic though.

HoneyDragon · 06/02/2017 17:08

It's not posh to have a meal out in a supermarket.

It is if you drink your tea in Morrisons with your little finger out.
