Price increase at Aldi?

I did my weekly shop in Aldi today, and was gobsmacked when I got to the checkout. About£12 more than normal! No special buys. The only difference was, I had to get frozen veggies, as there were hardly any fresh. I was going to buy fresh salmon, but it was£4.99! Has anyone else noticed a steady increase in the price?

'we never had it so good' in terms of food prices as an EU member.

I'm not sure how much of an impact being an EU member really was. Food prices in other EU states weren't cheap. In some areas, Greece for example, they became uncomfortably high on the adoption of the euro. The same is true for Italy.

The point I was making no is that they will buy something that is awful or mediocre at best and rave about it.yell me how little it cost and bow impressed with the quality they are blah blah blah when if they'd bought it anywhere else it wouldn't receive the same reaction.

And I was saying I'm genuinely curious now, having listened to the "it's Mexican week at lidls this week look at X YZ we got..." you are daft paying X for this you can get it in aldi fir 0.3 pence" or the "these have won awards and all the people in the local restaurants are shopping here" etc etc for some time now, that now the prices have gone up and the main reason (the saving ) is less obvious, whether or not they carry on buying it. Giles I don't think the quality at Aldis is any lower though, like for like.
I don't have any brand loyalty at all, I shop at 4 or 5 different shops, and thats what I have found.
Not that I would 'rave' about any food shopping. That's a bit silly, Smile.

I live in Belgium and we are still getting all the vegetables here, but we pay much more for them. I think the problem is that the UK is at the back of the queue because they don't want to pay inflated prices and there is a shortage. In Belgium though it is more seasonal vegetables on offer, rather than the huge range of exotic produce in the UK.

But courgettes are obviously important, and there are plenty here.

I wonder what it will be like post Brexit.

yy to pp about seasonal british produce. British Savoy cabbages at 50p in supermarket on sunday.
We had colcannon on Sunday, stuffed cabbage leaves done with lamb mince and rice yesterday.
No idea what to do with today's one yet.

Aldi prices may have gone up a bit, but have they gone up enough to be as high as other supermarkets? I did my weekly shop in Tesco instead of Aldi one week a few months ago and was astonished at how much more it cost.
I can't get too bothered about the veg shortage tbh. There's other, more seasonal veg to buy, like people used to before it was flown in from around the world. I like courgettes as much as the next person, but I think I'll probably cope without them for a while.

My rabbits are missing having lettuce

Ha ha TheElementsSong, I was purposely being extreme about an inexplicable rage (with shite hyperbole) against people liking a certain supermarket.

Nooooo - don't give your rabbits lettuce. It's like giving them crack 😲🐰

Yes they love it. Been to LIDL and got some at usual price. So they are happily munching away

But it's so BAD for them - like giving them kitkats all day!

I recently switched to Aldi from Tesco post Christmas because I noticed I couldn't seem to stick to budget even though I wasn't buying anything different and realised they'd hiked the prices.

I've more than halved the cost of my weekly shop, so I'm reasonably happy for now.

Not happy about the lack of spinach though. I'm chronically anaemic and only feel well if I eat at least 3 servings a week (on top of taking supplements as well).

I buy frozen chopped spinach from Waitrose - no good on its own, obviously, but easily hidden in pasta sauces etc!

Rabbits or guinea pigs shouldn't eat iceberg lettuce at all, it's very bad for them. Some darker, leafy varieties are ok in small quantities.

I don't feed them iceberg lettuce. Romaine lettuce is fine. That is what I bought in LIDL. And I hadn't seen it anywhere else.

Good to see this. I'm finding it hard to cope with and fed up. Heard today that chocolate will go up 30% . A friend has increased prices twice in her restaurant. All down to Brexit, pound going down etc.

I don't care about all these politicians and angry people. Wish I hadn't voted I hadn't voted Brexit as I can only see this getting worse and feeling an absolute fool now.

Simple answer is YES. 5p and 10p here and there. Just like Tesco did although tesco also shrank products. Aldi think we won't notice...yes we do. lidl is better and we are now shopping there.

Aldi, my favourite shop (and on the way from work). Spent eye watering £95 last week (normally £60-70). Prices definitely gone up. I am going to miss salmon as I can barely afford it now Sad. I've been known to buy salmon for my lunch, but not for DC, on occasions, but even now this will gone.
Empty shelves, no spinach... Sad.
What the heck happened to black olives???

The poster Mrscog who shops at £60 for family for 4, please tell us more!
