Just out of curiosity really because she and her voice make me cringe when i hear her on tv or radio.

Love scots though please don't get me wrong.

She is what we call a nippy sweetie. Grin Seriously though, she makes me pleased I live in England.

Calyx72 · 03/02/2017 17:28

People complaining about Nicola Sturgeon's govt making cuts. Scotland's tax and export duties go to Westminster and part of it is returned in the block grant via the Barnett formula. Cuts in Westminster = cuts to the block grant = Scotland has to have cuts too. SNP/Scotgov doesn't have access to the levers which would enable economic growth in order to stop cuts and start raising budgets. If Nicola uses the 'powers' to raise income tax Westminster will cut the block grant by that amount.

What should they do?

Labour didn't do any better when they were in power.

With independence we will have the ability to sort things and run the country how we want without having to see what pocket money we get from Westminster.

I would like to hear how Scotland could possibly be 'better together' with Brexit Britain.

RockyBird · 03/02/2017 17:29

She's not an embarrassment to me. I think she's great.

raviolidreaming · 03/02/2017 17:31

If you think she is great I suggest you google stories about her constituancy Govanhill

Exactly. In the hospital I worked in, she also wasn't respected as Health Minister.

HamletsSister · 03/02/2017 17:33

10 years of fucking up Education - cuts, Nationals (yes, really, they named the exams that), poor quality courses designed to grow up the next generation of Nats. Named Person.

Centralising and micro-managing everything - Police in particular is a disaster. None in my village or for 40+ miles most weekends. No village bobby.

Constant desire to be on the television looking statesman like. Finding people to shake hands with.

She has no heart. Doesn't listen and the independence agenda rules every decision.

It is a NO from me.

originalmavis · 03/02/2017 17:34

Don't like her but she certainly can hold her ground. Better than the slimey Salmond.

I say we send her over to the states to sort out the orange windbag.

Keeptrudging · 03/02/2017 17:35

I think she's fabulous. She's an amazing debater, really clear and focused. I've seen her doing an informal question and answer session where she was answering on the hoof, not all SNP supporters and she answered thoughtfully and with good humour. She came across as highly intelligent, commited and warm, not the 'nippy sweetie' she gets called. Scotland needs a leader of her calibre, she's well-respected in Europe, and I trust her to fight for Scotland.

ringlingsisters · 03/02/2017 17:36

Olliegarchy99 at 16.12 - thank you for that assessment. I often wonder what the % of Scottish votes to leave the EU would have been if NS hadn't conflated the EU referendum with a 2nd Indyref vote. I have an idea it would have been very close to the English result.

While I admit NS is the consummate politician, I don't like her 'eyerolliness' - she often does this in the Scottish parliament when she gets up to respond, belittling the person who made the original point/statement.

I dislike intensely how Scotland's failings are still being blamed on the Westminster govt. The Scottish govt have had 10 years to make a difference - if they had used that 10 years wisely and showed the electorate how well they could run the country, attract business and investment, create jobs, run services etc., they would have been more likely to achieve their independence goals. Instead, every time something fails (education/council services etc) it is still because Westminster won't give them enough money/autonomy, rather than because they've stuffed it up themselves.

And I would like NS, once and for all to answer the question as to how she can justify binding Scotland to the EU, the custom's union being so important to Scotland, when Scotland's exports to the EU account for approx. 20% of the total, and exports to the rest of the UK are over 70%. But she wants to get out of the union with ruk. Makes not one jot of sense at all.

I admire Ruth Davidson as a politician. Could never vote Tory. Wonder if she could be persuaded to stand as LibDem Grin

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 03/02/2017 17:37

Nippy sweetie is a put down for a woman who won't back down, it's patronising, misogynistic (ever heard it used in relation to a man? Didn't think so), and belittling.

EllenRipley · 03/02/2017 17:41

I think she's great. She's an important figure for Scotland and an important voice in the U.K. One of the few politicians I respect. And it infuriates me the way she is often judged on her appearance.

grumpypuss · 03/02/2017 17:46

It does make sense. She is putting up a clear opposition as opposed to Labour. Should she have just rolled over and said ok let's get on with the Westminster Brexit lunacy?

CornetBlues · 03/02/2017 17:47

She's a massive improvement on Alex Salmond.

She is professional in her demeanour while coming across with humour and some human warmth at times. In the flesh I hear she is the same. I dislike her politics but quite admire her as a woman.

Sleepingonthebus · 03/02/2017 17:49

I adore her and her politics.

ringlingsisters · 03/02/2017 17:57

But Grumpy, it doesn't make sense. You could just replace 'Westminster Brexit Lunacy' with 'SNP Independence Lunacy'.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 03/02/2017 17:58

Better her than Theresa the Appeaser.

LunaLoveg00d · 03/02/2017 17:59

She's a massive improvement on Alex Salmond.

That's not saying much though, is it?

Ftlofg · 03/02/2017 18:00

Yes, I liker her, most of her politics (more than any other party anyway) and I think she makes the best of the shitty hand. The only way Westminister will stop being blamed for Scottish problems is when they withdraw from Scottish issues. If they are gonna meddle in them (by way of finance control etc) then expect to carry the blame. Since SNP garnered nearly half the votes I expect she is fairly well liked.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 03/02/2017 18:05

You see using words like adore is just strange. She is a politician not a puppy.

LordPercy · 03/02/2017 18:07

Well yes I like her more than Salmond. But I like Trump more than Salmond. And Cameron too for that matter.

I still don't like her or trust her at all though.

dementedma · 03/02/2017 18:24

Really like Ruth Davidson too!

RortyCrankle · 03/02/2017 18:42

She is a one trick pony whose raison d'être is an independent Scotland, no matter what the cost. She also bears an uncanny resemblance to Jimmy Krankie Grin

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/02/2017 19:18

I'm really intrigued by all those saying she is racist? (Against the English?)

I am English living in Scotland and have never noticed anything like that from anyone in power, and not at all in general since primary school.

DanyellasDonkey · 03/02/2017 19:21

Can't stand her. After telling us we wouldn't have to endure another referendum in a generation, she wants another because it didn't go her way.

Terrible dress sense too (not that that's got anything to do with her as a politician).

DragonNoodleCake · 03/02/2017 19:26

I'm not a Scot but have lived in Scotland longer than half my life. I love my home. I am thoroughly disappointed at the SNP, the complete refusal to actually run the country as opposed to just bleating on about a referendum they lost. Oh and the pretence that Scotland is open to all - because it's not if you're English, racism is acceptable towards the English

awaynboilyurheid · 03/02/2017 19:28

Really like Ruth Davidson too !! why oh why is she not a socialist she can stand up to Nicola and the nonsense SNP spout.
Nicola has one agenda and that is independence at any cost, between her and Alex Salmond I never have seen so many families, friends, and colleagues divided over the referendum it almost split Scotland in two. The centralisation of the NHS with a huge hospital in Glasgow has not worked the casualty is a disaster zone. Education still has large class sizes and the SNP have had plenty of time to sort things but resort to blaming Westminster when things go wrong.
