Love scots though please don't get me wrong.

Not a majority, you're right, but more MSPs than the other parties. And the greens are pro-independence and have shown a willingness to work with the SNP.

Nyx · 09/02/2017 21:32

That's democracy, yes?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/02/2017 21:38

And the SNP did not get a majority in the last election so they have NO MANDATE for another referendum. That's democracy for you

Pro-indy MSPs have a majority in a parliament that is elected using PR. If most Scottish people thought an independent Scotland was a disastrously bad idea then most Scottish people would not have voted for pro indy MSPs. As Nyx said, that is the point of democracy.

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 21:39

I don't believe the conditions in the greens manifesto have been met for a second referendum. So still no mandate.

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 21:40

That's democracy for you.

LastnightaDJ · 09/02/2017 21:42

The trouble is, the independence genie isn't going back into the bottle. Much as I'd like us to settle down and get back to BAU, it isn't going to happen. These constitutional issues have been brewing for decades. I'm not happy with the current state of Scottish democracy either. But I'm nearly 40 and Scotland hasn't ever been a healthy democracy in my lifetime. I think it's a little unfair to blame the SNP. Their rise is the symptom, not the cause, of the issues that the UK is facing.

Nyx · 09/02/2017 21:42

What conditions are those? In the event of a second referendum the greens will campaign for independence.

Nyx · 09/02/2017 21:46

I agree, lastnight. It is not for no reason. It needs to be settled one way or the other. If there is another no vote then I do not see any way other than acceptance of the UK and its brexit and will do my best.

Nyx · 09/02/2017 21:50

Although i would be massively depressed about it for a long time!

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 21:53

Try reading their manifesto.

It was settled in 2014. There would be no rerun if it had been the other way

Polls show there is no appetite for a second referendum. The polls have shifted away from yes.

They're very quiet on what the outcome of the national survey. If it was favourable you can guarantee they would be crowing it from the rooftops.

Nyx · 09/02/2017 21:58

Nobody would want a rerun. Has anyone who has become independent of the UK ever wanted back? No. Can't think why.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/02/2017 22:01

It was settled in 2014

Then why did the electorate vote in a pro-indy government?

Polls show there is no appetite for a second referendum. The polls have shifted away from yes.

The polls have remained broadly the same. Pretty remarkable given all the unionist campaigning and lack of indy campaigning.

Try reading their manifesto

? "In a second referendum the Scottish Greens will campaign for independence."

greens.scot/scotland-can/be-a-bolder-democracy

Which bit are you suggesting we reread?

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 22:13

"on presenting a petition signed by an appropriate number of voters, citizens should be able to trigger a vote on important issues of devolved responsibility. As we proposed on the one year anniversary of the Independence Referendum, this is the Scottish Greens’ preferred way of deciding to hold a second referendum on Independence"

Not a definite support for a second referendum.

I think some people voted for the SNP in the absence of anyone better to vote for. My mum for one stupidly voted for the SNP but is against independence. I think she thought like most of us that there was not going to be a winning leave vote in the EU referendum. She regrets that now.

Calyx72 · 09/02/2017 22:13

I'm in agreement with Nyx and Itsall.

Don't know why I'm saying it except to show support as minds are not going to be changed online.

Funny unionists are terrified of a second indyref but it's union supporters that seem to lash out during these debates.

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 22:14

in what way are the unionists campaigning and the yes aren't?! Are you completely deluded ?!!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/02/2017 22:24

You missed the "Scotland in Union" billboards then? Wink

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 22:41

Yes I saw them.

I know there were only a few saddos at the indyref marches last year but they did happen. Clearly no yes campaigning and only unionist campaigning. Hmm

LastnightaDJ · 09/02/2017 22:46

"Saddos"? Sorry, are we in the playground?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/02/2017 22:46

I'd forgotten about the marches Blush

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/02/2017 22:47

Although mathematically I'm not.sure that 2.5k (police estimate) is "a few saddos"

prettybird · 09/02/2017 22:50

You'd better tell the Scotland Office that they shouldn't be campaigning. Hmm

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 22:53

Is that all there were!! Turnout was worse than I thought!!😂😂

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 22:54

It'sall is the only one claiming that there's no campaigning.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/02/2017 23:01

Have the Scottish Office been campaigning? I obviously don't have my finger on the political pulse Grin

I'd definitely agree that both sides are shouting about independence, but in terms of formal campaigning the only campaign I've noticed has been Scotland in Union, the yes campaign was disbanded after the referendum, and I don't remember seeing any pro-indy advertising around?

trixymalixy · 09/02/2017 23:13

I don't think Scotland in union is a formal campaign although that seemed on what your definition of a formal campaign I guess.

There was a yes conference recently although I'm not sure how formal that was either.

Whatever, claiming that there's been no yes campaigning and that the polls are not bad considering is not really reflective of reality.
