Love scots though please don't get me wrong.

Scotland has many resources, more than many other similar sized (independent) countries.

That may or may not be true, however they are perhaps not starting in a position of debt, they probably pay more tax and expect less for it.

People in this country expect the "government" to do everything for them, provide everything for them but still pay less/no tax. That's the problem.

You can't have more but pay less which is what the SNP are promising.

Olympiathequeen · 05/02/2017 11:47

I'm not arguing for the Union. Just pointing our the madness of the SNPs independence argument.

Calyx72 · 05/02/2017 11:49

Stats sorry you were on the receiving side of agression on twitter. There was a lot of it on both sides. Horrible to see.

Calyx72 · 05/02/2017 11:49

*aggression

Calyx72 · 05/02/2017 11:50

Olympia it's not just the SNP though. There's Greens, Labour for Independence and others.

Olympiathequeen · 05/02/2017 11:52

The independence argument, regardless of its origin, is madness for Scotland. I actually think it would be good for the rest of the UK, but there isn't the argument that the bigger you are the more you can influence the world.

Olympiathequeen · 05/02/2017 11:53

Is not isnt!

cheeseandcrackers77 · 05/02/2017 12:01

I think one of the downfalls was the SNP heading up the yes campaign and it became all about them and the white paper was their vision for an indy Scotland.

I think people see NS supposidly working for the good of everyone in Scotland as a lie when she keeps threatening another indy ref. She needs to get on with the day job and IF there is another ref a consortium of pro indy people from all parties need to take centre stage.

SNP are tasked with running our country at the moment and there are many challenges facing us I would have far more respect for her if she just got on with the job in hand she was NOT voted in purley on a mandate to continue the neverendum and is quoted as saying a vote for SNP does not equal a vote for indy so be true to your word and prove you really are doing the best for Scotland in the here and now.

LuluJakey1 · 05/02/2017 12:01

Scotland:
Subsidised by England by billions every year
Has huge social deprivation pockets - significant drug and alcohol issues, high levels on unemployment and people on benefits
Awful health statistics - worst in UK
Few natural resources- gas and oil industry on its last legs and owned by multinationals
Sparse population in many country and island areas- high cost to government to provide services
Vast tracts of land and resources of that land owned by English and foreign landowners

It relies on Westmnster government and EU for handouts all the time

SNP kidding themselves

Olympiathequeen · 05/02/2017 12:11

Sad to say, Lulu is right.

I never had an issue with subsidising Scotland until all the bile started spewing forth!

Now I feel resentful of the free uni fees and free prescriptions which we can't get but we are nevertheless subsidising.

Needn't have been this way. NSs rhetoric is a real piece of work. Demanding all the cake and eating it, then biting the hand that gave her the cake.

rogueantimatter · 05/02/2017 12:11

Re NS going to Stornoway - which is of course north of stirling - the north isles + Lewis and Harris are working on making an alliance in order to have their needs better represented in Holyrood.

Putting the needs of Scotland first - America first anyone? How is that ethical. Sure we take some refugees but we need them - Scotland has an ageing population. We're less healthy than rUK too. We need a govt which has the courage to stand up to the laddish drinking culture and celebration of unhealthy eating. Minimum price for alcohol doesn't cut it.

rogueantimatter · 05/02/2017 12:12

Calyx72 · 05/02/2017 12:23

England subsidies Scotland? That isn't true it's a myth and if anyone thinks Westminster's desperate to keep Scotland so we can be a drain on them is wrong in my opinion.

I'm off to dream my dreams of unicorns Smile and I think Nicola Sturgeon is the best politician I have seen (with Mhairi Black coming up fast)!

QueenLaBeefah · 05/02/2017 12:26

Have we had the results of the SNP's listening exercise yet? Thought we might have had feed back by now. Whatever could be the cause of the delay?

Olympiathequeen · 05/02/2017 12:26

Two words Calyx. Barnett formula.

I'm off to enjoy a cup of tea and a Scottish shortbread. Heaven in tiny form Grin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/02/2017 12:28

This chap is vehemently for independence and his writing style rubs folk up the wrong way a bit. But everything he says is referenced and researched. Re: debt and deficit

The self styled reverend? You are scraping the bottom most dregs of the barrel calling him as evidence to support your case.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 05/02/2017 12:30

I not 100% in the camp of the rest of the UK subs Scotland as I think it's too complex an issue to be as black and white but I do think currently under Barnet we do get a better deal something that in my opinion a newly indy Scotland won't be able to offer, certainly not in the first few decades.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/02/2017 12:32

(with Mhairi Black coming up fast

That would Mhairi "I held my nose an did whit Nicola telt me tae dae in that Euro referendum thing" Black ?

WankersHacksandThieves · 05/02/2017 12:47

Mhairi Black is another mouthpiece.

Queen, yes I wonder...Wink

KnitMeAUnicorn · 05/02/2017 12:49

Goodness, the old 'England subsidises Scotland' line.

Smacks of desperation to STILL be peddling this one.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 05/02/2017 12:51

So apparently there's loads of anti English comments not that I've seen on here but anti Scottish comments are ok? Fuck that. Subsidised? Your fucking government killed our industry and you expect us to be grateful? Have your opinions by all means, but keep the snottiness out of them.

LunaLoveg00d · 05/02/2017 12:53

Like many people in my area, I am totally unrepresented in partliament at the moment. We have a SNP MP and a SNP MSP, neither of whom I voted for. The SNP MP has made it perfectly clear that he has no interest in engaging with people who are not SNP voters - I am one of many who he has blocked on Twitter not for being abusive or mean, but for pointing out that the photo on his campaign literature was 30 years out of date. Crime of the century.

His job as a MP at Westminster is to represent ALL of his constituents, not just the faithful. Unfortunately though, Nippy runs her party very strictly and they are not allow to dissent in any way. I would be completely at a loss should I need a MP's help with anything serious.

originalmavis · 05/02/2017 12:53

'our' government.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 05/02/2017 13:02

What would I know? According to some snotty cunt up thread Scots are all just alcoholic junkies sponging off England. I've posted several reasonable comments on here, most of which have been ignored, listened to comments about anti English feeling (which I disagreed with) and the tone of posts getting snottier, but the one writing us all of as jakey, junkie spongers was out of fucking order.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 05/02/2017 13:05

I'm not anti English, never have been, never will be. I was born in England, most of my friends are English. But cunts who think that it's ok to label an entire nation by stereotypes and snobbery can fuck right off.
