To think that cat owners that smoke don't realise how bad they smell?

I bought some cake decorating stuff (second hand) at the weekend and it stinks. I put it through the dishwasher and now that stinks too. Why don't people realise that having cats shitting in the kitchen is vile - and why are cat litter trays often in the kitchen? Would the bathroom not be more appropriate? Why mix cooking with the toxic stink of cat shit?

And in answer to all of the cat owners that will tell me that their cat/house doesn't smell, you're wrong, it does, and there's cat hair all over you. Smokers have no defence other that you probably can't smell how bad you are because you've knackered your tastebuds.

I am never going to buy another second hand thing unless it's from a 'smoke & pet free house'. Stinky fuckers.

Love it when an OP starts a cat fight and then doesn't return for ages, only to state their case more vehemently, whilst making themselves sound a little strange. Just got the record you can't inspect people's homes when buying things, it's not socially acceptable to check people's cupboards, besides a cat might leap on you if she was hiding them.

My house 100% does not smell of anything Cat. Many a compliment has been given about how lovely it smells. Well mannered cats not wild animals leaving hair everywhere and pissing as they go and then attacking silicone bake ware in the middle of the night.

So no cat smells here, boxes cleaned daily, house cleaned daily cats self cleaning and rather obsessed with washing however they have confirmed that the small humans are a different matter especially the male one as he is very much hitting that moment where is bedroom smells of "Eau de Hamster" and as for the other adult human well everyone evacuates prior to leaving.

The woman you brought stuff sounds like a dirty mare, maybe she was storing them in with the cat litter but don't come here making sweeping generalisations it's very rude

When I was looking after some cats for a week, the worst smell was their food not the litter tray!

My DH smokes outside, I stopped on 01 Jan and now vape so I can really smell the cigarettes on him now (and don't like it)

Scooping shit doesn't do the job. Change the litter and clean the tray.

What, every time the cat does a poo? Confused

I scoop immediately after poo and have the clumping litter so get rid of wee clumps twice daily too but do people really empty and re fill the entire litter tray every time their cat does a poo?!

Loads of my friends have cats. Their houses don't smell. Cig smoke on the other hand clings to everything.

My cats feet smell cheesy like humans. He only smells when he's visited someone's smelly bush. Sometimes my old cat would smell of fags when she'd Been invited in my neighbours house hung out on street corners smoking fags
But she never baked so I don't think it's us

My cat is much less smelly than a lot of humans. You need a new dishwasher.

Covered in cat hair and dog hair here, but I don't smell. The house is zoflora and steam cleaned to within an inch of its life, including soft furnishings, every week and generally wiped down with antiseptic cleaner another day too. This house definitely doesn't smell, my partner is somewhat OCD about cleanliness (will get to in the night to do something that's been bothering him).

Houses where people smoke indoors always smell of fags to nonsmokers. Always.

God no! Every poo is removed immediately into a dog poo bag and put in the bin. We can't use clumping litter as my cat wees up against the side of the tray and it welds onto it! The tray is emptied regularly (depending on how often it's used) and always has a liner so the actual tray is always clean.

My cat's fur has a spicy smell and his paws smell of popcorn - he's lush!

My house quite often smells like melted plastic and cooked cat food. I'm in the habit of hiding Non-greedy boy's food bowl in the oven so Greedy boy won't devour it. I then forget about and switch the oven on for tea. Fuck me, that stinks!

Here's my beautiful girl.... she too smells like fresh air and clean washing. Apart from the one time she fell in a sludgy compost bin belonging to our neighbour. She had to have a bath. Which was fun.
And also the muddy one....

Cat owners always say their house doesn't smell like cat, but I can always smell them, as soon as I walk through the door. Mind, I have a very delicate nose!

My poor cat stinks just now, I accidentally poured tuna brine on his head, I keep getting the headbutt cuddles and gagging. When idiot cat isn't putting his head in the way of my tuna brine he smells devine... my 7year old is smellier.

I've got cats, my house doesnt smell either. No smokers in house. Unless the person you bought from rolled them in shit before hand then I honestly think your dishwasher needs a good clean. I've been in homes with filthy dishwashers and they stink. I clean other peoples homes for a living so seen and smelt a few.

Dont blame cats OP.

Oh come on, those saying that they smoke and don't smell? I'm sorry that you've never realised it, but you really do. It's on your clothes and in your hair, it's on your breath and fingers, it's so obvious to a non smoker. I have a friend who was a 'secret' smoker for a couple of years - although she wasn't - we knew because we could smell it.

It's the same with the cat smell. I don't have cats and can smell cat in those houses that do. I have a friend who's a pig farmer, he can't smell his own pigs (and they really reek) but to him other peoples pigs smell. He fully acknowledges that his pigs smell but that he just can't smell them. It's the same with those cat and smoking households - you're just not aware of it.

And my house? It's made of glass .....

My girl cat smells like popcorn a bit and my boy cat smells lovely. My partner often comments on how he likes to stick his nose in his fur. He's quite chunky and the girl is skinnier.

The 'cat' smell would be the least of your worries... my house has a severe damp problem.

I clean my house everyday, the litter tray gets cleaned daily with anti-bac spray and fresh litter (as well as getting the dirty litter out after they've used it). It can't go in my bathroom as my bathroom is smaller than a box room (3/4 smaller to be precise).

I'm testing the Fellowes air purifier. Someone who was a smoker came round the other day. They set it off, just by standing near it, I'm assuming because they'd smoked in the car, and it could detect the smoke on their clothes.

Our little dog doesn't set it off, neither do the guinea pigs, who live within a metre of it.

I heard tell of a cat that started smoking and was enticed into baking. He made lovely brownies according to the legend. Very nicely decorated too, with peace signs and tie-dye frostings piped on. Perhaps this was the cat .....
