To think that cat owners that smoke don't realise how bad they smell?

I bought some cake decorating stuff (second hand) at the weekend and it stinks. I put it through the dishwasher and now that stinks too. Why don't people realise that having cats shitting in the kitchen is vile - and why are cat litter trays often in the kitchen? Would the bathroom not be more appropriate? Why mix cooking with the toxic stink of cat shit?

And in answer to all of the cat owners that will tell me that their cat/house doesn't smell, you're wrong, it does, and there's cat hair all over you. Smokers have no defence other that you probably can't smell how bad you are because you've knackered your tastebuds.

I am never going to buy another second hand thing unless it's from a 'smoke & pet free house'. Stinky fuckers.

How on earth could your dishwasher smell of cat? I don't understand that bit.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/02/2017 08:34

Prone to exaggeration OP?

treaclesoda · 01/02/2017 08:36

Some houses with cats do smell a bit of cat, even if the house is clean.

But I've been in loads of houses with cats where I had no idea that they had cats.

HemanOrSheRa · 01/02/2017 08:37

My mind is boggling over how a cat made cake decorating stuff stink Confused?! Maybe it was the cats decorating equipment? Now the cat is sad because it can't decorate cakes any more Sad.

I am a very responsible pet owner - I would never sell my cats belongings without their permission.

7SunshineSeven7 · 01/02/2017 08:38

YABU, I know lots of people with cats who don't smell. They're bathed very regularly as they have show cats who win national competitions (about 7 of them).

I think cats smell way better than any teenage boy Grin

I do think people who smoke shouldn't really have house pets like cats though. I don't think its fair to keep them in a place where someone is smoking and they can't get away from it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 01/02/2017 08:39

If they made perfume that mimicked the smell of cats I'd wear it - especially their paws!

In fact, I've been thinking of contacting Diptyque to ask them if they would do a candle for those of us that have no cats to bury our faces in - odeur de chat maybe?

LunaLoveg00d · 01/02/2017 08:39

Dogs and cats do smell. People who live with cats and dogs become immune to the smell and don't notice it. Same with smokers.

I volunteer in a charity shop and as soon as you open a bag it's obvious if it came from a house with smokers. Clothes can be steamed and febreezed to try to get the smell out, not so easy with other items - unpacked three rolls of wallpaper the other day which reeked to high heaven.

And don't get me started on pet hair - YUK!

My friend had a lovely cat who unfortunately stunk of cigarette smoke. My friend smoked 20 cigarettes a day indoors and sadly the cat died quite young of lung cancer. Could only ever smell the cigarette smoke but not the cat!

Sparklingbrook · 01/02/2017 08:41

Poor cat. Looking for it's cake decorating stuff. Sad

Hyacinth Bucket, is that you my Dear?

Even worse is when the cat smokes 20 a day and the cat owner shits in the kitchen.

You are wrong. I know people that smoke, they don't smell.

All cat owners stink? I'm seeing my sister this afternoon. I must remember to ask her if I stink. She's never mentioned it and usually she's pretty frank

thecatneuterer · 01/02/2017 08:47

Cats don't have a smell. Cat litter trays do, so they smell if they're not cleaned. Or if the cat pisses on the floor or such it will of course smell. But cats themselves have no smell. So a house with cats that use trays properly or which toilet outside and with clean litter trays will have no smell.

Dogs do have a fairly strong smell, as do mice. Hamsters don't. Some animals have a noticeable smell, some don't. Cats don't.

All smokers smell of smoke.

I won't invite you for dinner then OP Grin

Aw Sparkling I'm really worried about the poor cat. What will it do all day if it can't decorate cakes Sad?

Toddlerteaplease · 01/02/2017 08:47

My cat litter tray does not smell, because I use really good cat litter. Yes it is in the kitchen because there is no where else to put it. No there is not cat hair over everything because a) my girls don't shed. B) I clean regularly.

Eliza22 · 01/02/2017 08:47

I have a cat who, seriously, doesn't smell. Im lucky in that she's in and out all day and has never needed use of an indoor litter tray. I love her. She makes me smile just looking at her 😊😺. I also have a golden retriever who is a big hairy girl of 18 months and needs hosing/bathing pretty much, every day as she has a passion for mud and rivers. So, my home smells of wet dog often and I couldn't care less!

OP, you're right to restrict your buying to pet free homes. I feel the same about smoking.

MycatsaPirate · 01/02/2017 08:48

Well someones clearly bored and looking for a fight on the internet.

FuzzyOwl · 01/02/2017 08:48

There is either something wrong with your dishwasher or your sense of smell.

Why don't you ask whether a house is smoke and pet free before buying something or else refuse it when you arrive if you are not happy with it? And why after failing to do either of those things start a goady post that generalises a significant percentage of the population? Hmm

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 01/02/2017 08:48

Cats apart from their breath when they meeow or yawn often smell lovely. I spend ages sniffing my lovely cat's head fur. Mmmmm.

I pity people who don't understand this.

But I bet cats who smoke and bake cakes reek.

thecatneuterer · 01/02/2017 08:49

Guilty as charged on the pet hair on clothes thing though. Oh well.

DonkeyOaty · 01/02/2017 08:50

Maybe the cat "decorated" the cakes Mr Whippy style.

I really hate cats. Cannot see the appeal whatsoever. Having a box of cat poo in the kitchen is grim. And yes, in my experience, they do make a house smelly. I totally get where you are coming from with all that. BUT you didn't have to buy anything from her. You could have said thanks but no thanks when you realised it was a home with cats. And does your dishwasher really smell from washing some cooking utensils that came from a cat owner's house? Was she using the utensils to scoop the cat litter?
