To think that cat owners that smoke don't realise how bad they smell?

I bought some cake decorating stuff (second hand) at the weekend and it stinks. I put it through the dishwasher and now that stinks too. Why don't people realise that having cats shitting in the kitchen is vile - and why are cat litter trays often in the kitchen? Would the bathroom not be more appropriate? Why mix cooking with the toxic stink of cat shit?

And in answer to all of the cat owners that will tell me that their cat/house doesn't smell, you're wrong, it does, and there's cat hair all over you. Smokers have no defence other that you probably can't smell how bad you are because you've knackered your tastebuds.

I am never going to buy another second hand thing unless it's from a 'smoke & pet free house'. Stinky fuckers.

I think you jave made an assumption and your brain is playing yricks on you..

BitOutOfPractice · 01/02/2017 09:40

Kronutpearl it wasn't me that said cat hair was gross.

But when I'm sitting on the tube this afternoon, sneezing, with painful itchy streaming eyes and itchy welts on the back of my hands I'll just think "oh this is only mildly annoying" Hmm

londonrach · 01/02/2017 09:41

Ellebelly 😜 Personally i love the smell of garlic not so on the other smells. However if you a friend who i enjoy the company of i dont frankly care what you smell of but might suggest meeting outside! 😝 I bet you hate my lavender smelling house. Mind you for one reason at all it smelt of curry too days ago. I havent cooked curry for a week. Really strongly. Figure that out! (House wants curry?)

OneWithTheForce · 01/02/2017 09:41

Umm, what did the dishes smell of? We're the cats shitting in them? Confused

EarlGreyT · 01/02/2017 09:42

'Judgemental'. The new fragrance, by The Daily Mail.

Brilliant.

PurpleNurple69 · 01/02/2017 09:42

I'm interested in these cats that smell like biscuits. I've just sniffed one of them and he just smells of outside. I can't reach the other one right now - on a chair tucked under the far side of the table.

Ah I know! I'll get their bowls out - that'll get him moving!

Purplebluebird · 01/02/2017 09:43

I can't stand the smell of cigarettes, but the smell of a cat is fine - surely most people would clean out the cat litter as soon as there was a poo? That's what I did anyway. My cats are however outside now, so there is no litter tray anymore.

mambono5 · 01/02/2017 09:43

I can't understand why anything poo related has to be in a kitchen or in a bathroom frankly. I don't want the smell when I am in the bath or brushing my teeth, so I would not put a toilet or a cat litter in a bathroom either.

I have never been in a house smelling of cats!

Very much struggling to understand how decorating stuff could smell of cat shit. Is it likely that the previous owner stored them in the cat litter tray? Very odd. Confused

londonrach · 01/02/2017 09:43

Sparkley....love that cat house.

Sparklingbrook · 01/02/2017 09:43

Sparklingcat's paws smell like biscuits.

Bloopbleep · 01/02/2017 09:44

I don't need to smell the cat to start getting an allergic reaction. Sitting next to a cat owner on a bus or the tube is enough to set my allergies off really badly :( But i do find cat and dog owners smelly (I'm a dog owner myself) and smokers always reek they just don't know it

Sparklingbrook · 01/02/2017 09:45

Aww thanks london DS2 made some double glazing for it out of perspex. I am pondering some curtains. Blush

PurpleNurple69 · 01/02/2017 09:46

Nope. Just grabbed and gave him a big old sniff - nothing. Biscuity or otherwise. Envy Jealous.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/02/2017 09:48

That's probably the hair bloop. No cat owner will deny being covered with cat hair to a certain degree, but the fact is that cats are extremely clean animals that simply do not smell bad apart from one of my kittens who is the fartiest cat I've ever known.

Cat shit does smell disgusting, but unless the baking equipment was directly contaminated, there wouldn't have been a lingering smell due to simply inhabiting the same airspace as a cat.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/02/2017 09:49

Forgot to say, that cat house is lovely sparkling. Is it home made or did you buy it?

MrsderPunkt · 01/02/2017 09:49

Ok, so to answer the majority of stuff, there is absolutely no problem with my dishwasher as it was new just before Christmas. A lot of the stuff is silicone not metal - there was also some sweet molds complete with cat hair. I met the lady on the doorstep so had no chance to check her house for cleanliness or her cupboards for hoarding tendancies - although given that some of it was in unopened packets it's a possibility.

Houses with cats in them smell of cats, houses with smokers in smell of smoke - there's no escaping it - the more you add to the mix, the worse it gets. I don't like the smell of either, which is why I asked if they realised that they smell so bad. It seems not.

I didn't say that cat hair was disgusting - just pointed out it's presence Grin.

Cat hair is a condiment in this house Grin

ClaudiaNaughton · 01/02/2017 09:52

Must be some lovely mice print material for curtains.

nothingpunny · 01/02/2017 09:52

I bet my beautiful cat smells cleaner than your dishwasher op Wink

OneWithTheForce · 01/02/2017 09:53

Can you describe the smell that was on the stuff OP? I can't imagine what smell would be on baking equipment that not only wouldn't come off in the dishawasher but actually contaminated the dishwasher itself??

inappropriateraspberry · 01/02/2017 09:54

Cats do smell - but of a lovely soft comforting purry smell! They don't stink, even when wet. Unlike dogs - a damp dog always stinks! Every house has its own smell and the owners won't notice it as they live with it. I wonder what YOUR house smells of, OP? And you definitely need to get your dishwasher checked out - unless your dishwasher is a cat, like mine, then obv it will make everything smell catty.

One of my cats smelt like outside, the other had a lovely smell, kinda like biscuits and a little bit sweet.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/02/2017 09:57

No cat owner will deny being covered with cat hair

Barbara (love your user name Grin) - at least one on this thread has done just that.

I have the same reaction as bloop if I sit next to someone with cat hair on them. And I can definitely smell it before I even start to react - which at least gives me a chance to move

londonrach · 01/02/2017 09:57

Curtains!! Love that. What material? Have you considered the decoration inside? (Can you tell im feeding ababy at the moment)

If you met her on the doorstep you would have got a bit of a whiff if it was as pungent as you claim. Plus how did you know she had litter trays in the kitchen if you didn't go in? Confused

I bought it Barbara. It was about £40 iirc.
