To think that cat owners that smoke don't realise how bad they smell?

I bought some cake decorating stuff (second hand) at the weekend and it stinks. I put it through the dishwasher and now that stinks too. Why don't people realise that having cats shitting in the kitchen is vile - and why are cat litter trays often in the kitchen? Would the bathroom not be more appropriate? Why mix cooking with the toxic stink of cat shit?

And in answer to all of the cat owners that will tell me that their cat/house doesn't smell, you're wrong, it does, and there's cat hair all over you. Smokers have no defence other that you probably can't smell how bad you are because you've knackered your tastebuds.

I am never going to buy another second hand thing unless it's from a 'smoke & pet free house'. Stinky fuckers.

Top bit (the verandah if you will) I have carpeted london, bottom bit has one of those teddy bear throws in all folded up. Cosy.

GeorgiePeachie · 01/02/2017 10:01

Unless you have a massive house If you have pets then your clothes smell. A friend of mine used to have her cat food feeding area which was under the coat rack by the door. ALL of their coats were horrible catfood smells.

Could I add coffee drinkers breath? That is... just awful and none of you know how bad your breath is.

BriantheWife · 01/02/2017 10:03

You actually chose to buy cake decorating kit that smelled so badly of cat poo that even your dishwasher couldn't clean it?

helpimitchy · 01/02/2017 10:08

My cat gave up smoking four months ago and no longer smells Smile

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 01/02/2017 10:10

Maybe you should have bought new things instead of second hand ones.

See - not nice when people are snobby, is it??

piefacerecords · 01/02/2017 10:11

Ha ha well actually I agree with you OP. People who smoke do stink - and so does everything around them.

I also think having a litter tray in the kitchen is disgusting - you may as well take a dump in there yourself.

papayasareyum · 01/02/2017 10:11

We had a car, years ago. I always thought you couldn't smell the cat. When we were trying to sell the house, we were asked if we had a car. I was mortified. Unless the litter tray is freshly changed, the house will have faint odour of cat! (and we had a litter tray with a roof)

papayasareyum · 01/02/2017 10:11

cat not car, ffsAngry

piefacerecords · 01/02/2017 10:12

I don't understand the title of this thread though - is it just cat owners that smoke that smell, do you think? Personally I think dog owners are a bit stinky too...

DesolateWaist · 01/02/2017 10:12

My cat lives in my house, it is her home.
If you are visiting my house then you are a visitor. Don't come into her home and tell her it smells.

In my opinion, and I know this won't go down well, houses with babies smell.

Anyway OP. You said that this silicon bakeware was still in the sealed packets? I have found in the past that silicon bakeware smells dreadful.

iloveeverykindofcat · 01/02/2017 10:14

Errr, healthy cats dont' smell. Think about it. They're ambush predators. A cat that stinks needs a vet.

piefacerecords · 01/02/2017 10:15

ilove I don't think that cats smell - but piles of cat shit in a kitchen really do.

Mermaidinthesea · 01/02/2017 10:16

I have two cats and my house never smells, my lodger wouldn't be able to tolerate it, she is very sensitive to smells. The secret is....not being a dirty slob.
My house is immaculate, the indoor litter tray has the poop removed the second they go and flushed down the loo, any scattered cat litter is hoovered up with a hand held vacuum and my cats are brushed everyday.
i hoover up any cat hair straight away.
I can't afford to go to work covered in cat hair as it's unprofessional so I have shares in lint rollers.
It is hard work but I keep a clean household.

HappyFlappy · 01/02/2017 10:16

I don't give a hoot if my house smells of cats - no one has to come here, or buy anything from me. If something smells, why buy it in the first place?

Dead right, Snail.

I have two cats and 3 dogs - I know there will be a (ahem) feral smell even though we aren't aware of it, but it's our home and we love our animals. If people don't want to come in etc, then I'm fine with that.

WorraLiberty · 01/02/2017 10:17

What sort of eejit collects a purchase from someone's doorstep without checking it over first?

Oh, and buy some decent dishwasher tabs and keep your dishwasher clean you dirty mare Grin

If it stinks of fag smoke and cat shit after washing a few utensils, you're definitely doing something wrong.

iloveeverykindofcat · 01/02/2017 10:17

pieface Well yeah, but that's not cat, that's just a filthy house

Mermaidinthesea · 01/02/2017 10:17

P.S My cats love being hoovered so that gets rid of a lot of their hair :-)

HappyFlappy · 01/02/2017 10:18

Actually, the only person I know who had a noticeable animal smell in her home was our NDN, but she had two Un-neutered tom cats and they sprayed everywhere.

Can't stop singing Smelly Cat from Friends in my head.

But seriously the cats themselves don't smell unless they yawn right in your face. Excrement does obviously smell and litter also smells even when it's clean (but I don't think that's a bad thing - just, some things have scents).

BarbaraofSeville · 01/02/2017 10:21

Thanks for the link sparkling. Also rach, that wall system looks great.

Although knowing the contrary nature of cats, the more expensive and labour intensive the houses and beds provided, the less likely they are to use them.

Mine seem more than happy with their current offering of cardboard boxes from Aldi, old towels, shredded newspaper and the t shirt cat box (I find the Drona box from Ikea and one of DPs old t-shirts in XL works best).

TOTALLY AGREE about the litter! It's always confused and disgusted me that people keep it in the kitchen!

Ours was always in the bathroom.

Mia1415 · 01/02/2017 10:22

Why did you buy it if it smelt so bad? Most normal cat owners don't smell. YABU
