To think this is a load of bs?

My mum posted on fb today that she's excited to see trump in power as he's a Christian and America finally has a Christian leader. Personally I don't see anything Christian about trying to segregate America. Aibu to think that's utter nonsense and he's definitely not getting his instructions from God?! I'm not a Christian though so maybe I just don't see it?

Obama's a Christian. More of a Christian than Trump.

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 30/01/2017 10:19

Your mother is more than a little thick. ALL US presidents have been Christians. What did she think Obama was? Hmm

BarbarianMum · 30/01/2017 10:21

Is your mum a forced birthed by any chance? With a little sideline in racial and religious prejudice? And a selective take on Christian values?

BarbarianMum · 30/01/2017 10:22

forced birther

BlackeyedSusan · 30/01/2017 10:22

Would rather have a non christian than him. there are many lovely, honest, people with integrity who are good leaders, and politicians, around that are not Christians.

being a christian does not make you any better than not being. just that you are trying to follow christian teachings, and lets face it some people do not try that hard. And some people just call themselves that because they are not anything else or it might get people to vote for them.

WorraLiberty · 30/01/2017 10:25

Has there ever been a non Christian President? Confused

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 30/01/2017 10:28

All American presidents have been Christian, at least superficially. You couldn't get elected if you were anything else. I suspect what OP's mum means is that Trump is white.

Rainydayspending · 30/01/2017 10:31

Post a link to the wiki of the religious affiliations of the presidents. Suggest that be the thing she learns today.

eurochick · 30/01/2017 10:46

Is he a christian? He's certainly not acting like one. The pope doesn't seem to think closing doors on refugees is very christian.

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/01/2017 10:47

Obama's Christian. Bush is Christian. Clinton is Christian. All the way back were Christian. Your mum is a bit thick.

DesolateWaist · 30/01/2017 10:49

I think what she means is that he is a white man who doesn't like the gays or the foreigns.

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/01/2017 10:49

Or perhaps send her this ...

To think this is a load of bs?
DesolateWaist · 30/01/2017 10:49

I'd go NC personally.

HappyFlappy · 30/01/2017 10:53

Tony Blair claims to be a Christian, too.

We know where that led . . .

CaraAspen · 30/01/2017 10:54

NC for an opinion - an opinion that can be ignored. Some of your replies are ridiculous.
The OP's mother has a right to hold that opinion, just as the OP has the right to refute it.
Get a sense of proportion, people.

Petronius16 · 30/01/2017 11:01

Blair's best mate Bush was a born again Christian, so he said.

If someone believes America finally has a Christian president then that's more than an opinion, it's a belief and a scary one at that.

DesolateWaist · 30/01/2017 11:02

The OP's mother has a right to hold that opinion,

So this is 'post truth' is it?
It's not an 'opinion', she is making a statement of fact that is wrong.

UnexplainedOnHerCollar · 30/01/2017 11:04

The least Christian/conventionally Christian/religious presidents were Lincoln and Jefferson as far as is known. They were officially Christian but suspected of not being. Jefferson question many aspects of Christianity and worked for religious freedom and tolerance.

The rest have all been pretty Christian including Obama.

It's like "America first" - when has the US ever not put America first??? Hmm

It's odd that in America "christian values" often seem to have nothing to do with any of the teaching of christ, like love, tolerance, forgiveness etc.

But I'm an atheist so find it all a bit baffling anyway... but I can't believe Jesus would take anything other than a dim view of trump.

Cinderpi · 30/01/2017 11:04

I'm a Christian. I don't think Jesus ever said anything like 'hate people who aren't like you' or 'feel free to sexually assault women'. He did say something about loving neighbours though, and pointed out that neighbours included the people from other cultures who believe different things...

My point is YOU were suggested the OP severs contact with her mother. You are being ridiculous. Laughably so.

It was a fucking joke!! Seriously, have you had a sense of humour bypass.

Talk about an OTT response! Haha
