My mum posted on fb today that she's excited to see trump in power as he's a Christian and America finally has a Christian leader. Personally I don't see anything Christian about trying to segregate America. Aibu to think that's utter nonsense and he's definitely not getting his instructions from God?! I'm not a Christian though so maybe I just don't see it?

Lots of Americans like Trump ....

What's the point of just posting something like this? Does this mean that everyone else should just shut up?

CoolCarrie · 30/01/2017 18:41

And a lot of Americans don't, so what is your point Creampastry?

Two minutes looking at Trump's actions over his entire life, not just the last week, would disabuse anyone of the notion that Trump is attempting to live what many Christians (of all different types) would classify as a "Christian" life. Even taking an extremely generous view of Trump's actions, and assuming that he hasn't personally killed anyone (though his actions will certainly cause people to die) and that he honours his parents (he reveres his dad but I have no idea how he feels about his mum), he's gleefully, repeatedly and deliberately broken 8 of the 10 commandments, often in really disgustingly spectacular ways.

Being a Christian,or a follower of any religious faith for that matter, does not necessarily make you 'a good person',any better than say,an atheist or an agnostic. I get irritated by this opinion held by many religious people that you are only a worthy, decent human being if you believe in a god. I do not follow any religion, but I would like to think I am basically a good person, with values and morals,as much as any Christian,Jew, Muslim etc.

The pope doesn't seem to think closing doors on refugees is very christian.

Why is the pope always the go-to Christian on issues like this. "oh it must be Christian because the pope believes it"
Hmm

Also- my neighbours are hardcore christian, they love Jesus and their religion takes over their whole lives. They love Trump and think the 'ban' is what America needs to get back on track (her words) they also hate abortion and think women should at least have the babies and give them up- so forced birth.

They are bigoted, small minded, selfish, xenophobic, and they love Jesus.
But they hide behind the fact they are devout Christian to be cunts to people.

Cross posted with you janey I totally agree.

I think CaraAspen is trolling MN from the US MidWest (just based on observations from the past several months). No problem with that of course, it's very interesting to see how the other half thinks (or not, as the case may be). I have a number of Southern/Midwest pro-Trump-bleating acquaintances on my FB for the exact same, scientific purpose! So far, not a brain cell between them.

ollieplimsoles my mum is the same. Sometimes I despair at the things that come out of her mouth. We were watching X factor once and a gay dude auditioned. My mum goes "yuck, do you think the judges find him disgusting because of what he does behind closed doors? They won't put him through surely". I was gobsmacked she thinks everyone has her homophobe brain. She also wants god to give her magic powers haha. Like to see into the future. Plot twist, my MIL is full blown Wiccan and does read people's futures but when she does it's "evil"

Janey I have to say that throughout my whole life my Parents, Sunday School teachers and Ministers have always been at at pains to point out that being a Christian doesn't make you better than anyone else and that turning up to church every week doesn't make you a Christian.

You could be right itsa, very ahem 'abrasive' poster.
