AIBU to think I've just been put in my place by DS' girlfriend

DS has been away for a week. His GF texted earlier to ask if she could come round and cook a surprise special meal for them. Obv not a problem and she's a nice girl btw.

She has just asked me if DH, DD and I will be eating before them or after them!!! That kind of tells us to bugger off doesn't it? She's 16 FFS.

I'm going to have to keep on the right side of her aren't I?

losing!*

why12345 · 12/01/2018 10:00

What's the problem?
Did you want to join them? Confused

Idesofmarchant · 12/01/2018 10:00

This strikes me as gauche rather than intentionally forceful. She sounds lovely and thoughtful and organised! Funny tho Grin

why12345 · 12/01/2018 10:01

Need to start reading the date more Blush

kokosnuss · 12/01/2018 10:04

The important question is can she cook?!

Nobody would have wanted to let me use their kitchen when I was 16! Grin

kokosnuss · 12/01/2018 10:04

Oh nooo I got zombied

HotelEuphoria · 12/01/2018 10:06

I don't see a problem. DS at that age and his GF used to cook "special" meals.

We would cook at the same time sometimes and they would eat in the kitchen and we would eat in the dinign room or on our laps.

No biggy.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 12/01/2018 10:06

I half noticed the date on this and thought I'd lost 3 weeks before I looked properly!

HotelEuphoria · 12/01/2018 10:07

damn! Old threads shouldn't allow you to post on them.

TheFaerieQueene · 12/01/2018 10:07

Why the hell would anyone search out and respond to a year old thread??

Eliza9917 · 12/01/2018 10:08

Aww I think it's nice, loves young dream & all that.

Give them a break and pop out for a date yourselves, if you have a DH/DP, and no other kids, or pop them off out to a friends and go on your date too.

usernamealreadytaken · 12/01/2018 10:09

Why on earth is a zombie trending??? Oh yes, it's because idiots like me are commenting on it - sorry Blush

ghostyslovesheets · 12/01/2018 10:10

this!

JassyRadlett · 12/01/2018 10:10

Aw, I remember this from last year! Wonder if they’re still together.

UterusUterusGhali · 12/01/2018 10:17

I can't believe it's been nearly a year!
I thought OP was giving us an update. Blush
Crumbs. Time flies.

SilverySurfer · 12/01/2018 10:29

I don't understand why anyone wants to dredge up zombie threads but it clearly shows that there are some PP who don't read anything but the OP before posting - despite all the posts shouting ZOMBIE!

LyraPotter · 12/01/2018 10:31

She's 16 so I wouldn't expect her to have totally mastered the niceties of social graces. She has probably been planning a nice surprise for your son and trying to find a polite way of letting you know it's just for the 2 of them rather than her cooking a family meal for you all. She didn't go about it in the best way but as you say she's a nice girl I would give her the benefit of the doubt and think that she was slightly awkward rather than an actual CF.

I'm sure when I was 16 I must have done things that caused my boyfriend's parents to raise eyebrows Blush and I'm grateful they let them slide!

Viviennemary · 12/01/2018 10:34

It is a bit inconvenient. I wouldn't have thought of this either. I'd expect she'd work round me. Just agree this time but next time say no. She should invite him to her house. I'd keep out of her way in the kitchen but wouldn't be turfed out of my own house by a 16 year old.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 12/01/2018 10:36

You can tell the people who don't RTFT Grin

It's a ZOMBIE thread

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 12/01/2018 10:37

Or she might be politely asking which would be most convenient for you? Surely you weren't expecting to sit down to join the romantic meal?

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 12/01/2018 10:37

This!

Snowysky20009 · 12/01/2018 10:40

Zombie thread

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 12/01/2018 10:43

@MotherofaSurvivor

Just...why?!? genuinely curious. I don't care that much about zombie threads if someone has a similar problem, has searched then added a comment but really, what made you drag this one up? Nothing stopping you and I really do not want to sound petty, it's not important, but just why? are you actually MNHQ told to drag something into active when it's a slow thread day?!

TheMaddHugger · 12/01/2018 10:47

.

AIBU to think I've just been put in my place by DS' girlfriend
QuimReaper · 12/01/2018 11:06
