To think Paperchase have lost their minds over cock and anal cards

Paperchase have a series of Valentine's cards with such witty captions as "I love your big cock" and "nothing says I love you like anal".

As a high street chain hugely popular with young people, I'd kind of expect them to understand some boundaries about graphic and sexually explicit language.

They're brazening it out on Twitter, claiming their minuscule disclaimer about the cards being rude is absolutely adequate.

Grim.

It's disgusting. I won't shop there anymore

Phalenopsisgirl · 25/01/2017 22:43

Haha the anal one would actually be perfect for dh, it's a regular silly joke between us
Him- 'so if I do (insert difficult/expensive/challenging task here) does that mean I'll get anal?' Mock hopeful face
Me- 'yes of course darling' with fingers crossed

MyWineTime · 25/01/2017 22:44

Truly awful, awful cards

Notcontent · 25/01/2017 22:44

I don't know Wyfofbathe - I think explaining a topless magazine cover is actually easier than than trying to explain to a 10 year old why a card about anal sex is meant to be funny...

FurryLittleTwerp · 25/01/2017 22:47

Valentine's Day is supposed to be romantic. These cards are awful.

Anal sex might be a lot of things awful, painful, sexy, a big turn on, the best ever, demeaning, expected, pornographic whatever, but it is not romantic.

RogueStar01 · 25/01/2017 22:48

totally inappropriate and appalling to have ok display in a shop children go in.

SarfEast1cated · 25/01/2017 22:48

You can imagine tucking one of those into your keepsake drawer to show the grandchildren. They're a bit grim aren't they... yuck.

Iamastonished · 25/01/2017 22:51

"I think they're funny."

I'm sorry, but there is no humour there at all - they aren't witty or clever. They are just statements. I just don't find them funny at all.

HubbleBubbles · 25/01/2017 22:51

I am very very rarely outraged... but Paperchase and anal sex !!?? Shock Paperchase is meant to be pretty and quirky not ...THIS

Iamastonished · 25/01/2017 22:56

They aren't on their website

butterfliesandzebras · 25/01/2017 22:57

I have no problem with these between adults (I'm not the arbiter of what other people find funny), but this stuff shouldn't be visible for kids.

The words aren't appropriate for young ones and the message that 'love' means doing certain sex acts could easily be damaging.

Peanutbutterrules · 25/01/2017 23:01

But its a shop for teens...my DD (12) and her friends love it.

These are revolting.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 25/01/2017 23:01

I like the socially awkward one.

The rest are a bit try-hard and miss the mark.

MuteButtonisOn · 25/01/2017 23:08

Yup.

seafoodeatit · 25/01/2017 23:10

Another fan of the socially awkward card, the others aren't funny at all and just banal, what a disappointment for what is usually an overpriced stationary cheery shop.

Keeptrudging · 25/01/2017 23:11

Nooooooo Sad! I get all my cute fluffy pens from Paperchase. I'm so disappointed in them Sad.

TheCraicDealer · 25/01/2017 23:12

Whether they're funny or not is beyond the point- they aren't really appropriate for sale outside of Ann Summers or Lovehoney or similar. If they really thought there was a market for this they should have trialled them as online exclusives on their website or something, not had them sitting in the shops. I and loads of my impressionable and naive friends were obsessed with stationary when we were teens and loved their stuff, so the anal joke has pretty much guaranteed I'm getting DP one from Papier now.

Not cool, Paperchase.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 25/01/2017 23:17

If they have to be rude, then at least make them bloody funny....

SemiNormal · 25/01/2017 23:20

Rude cards don't bother me but they're just a bit (more than a bit) shit. I don't "get" it? Nothing funny about it, even the design of the cards are dull - I could design something MUCH better using nothing but a slate and a potato!

garlicandsapphire · 25/01/2017 23:23

Ah - who said romance is dead?

BrickInTheWall · 25/01/2017 23:23

The nicer one on facebook for the person who was trying to think of it is LoveLayla. I only know because just this week I have bought one for my DH for Valentines this year.. I think its a LOT classier than these ones though!

AbernathysFringe · 25/01/2017 23:25

Tacky, not funny, shouldn't be in a greeting card shop. Have them in Ann Summers or something.

gallicgirl · 25/01/2017 23:26

So has no one mentioned that hard on is two words, not one?

Misses point

BarbaraofSeville · 25/01/2017 23:27

I'm not sure what is more shocking about this thread. The fact that Paperchase are selling really vulgar valentines cards or people are describing them as inexpensive.

ChuffChu · 25/01/2017 23:35

I like the socially awkward weirdos one.

The anal one has made me go a bit cold all over, but as a teenager I was repeatedly forced to do anal with an ex because it was 'loving'. Didn't feel very livinga s I was sobbing my heart out.

I don't like to thing of a young girl getting one of these (because, come on, we all know who these are aimed at) and it being used to pressure her.

I live a good dirty joke between adults, certainly no prude. But there is no humour or punchline with these at all.
