To think Paperchase have lost their minds over cock and anal cards

Paperchase have a series of Valentine's cards with such witty captions as "I love your big cock" and "nothing says I love you like anal".

As a high street chain hugely popular with young people, I'd kind of expect them to understand some boundaries about graphic and sexually explicit language.

They're brazening it out on Twitter, claiming their minuscule disclaimer about the cards being rude is absolutely adequate.

Grim.

They don't belong in a high street stationary shop. Aren't there laws about this kind of thing?
As valentines cards go, if I had received one from my boyfriend I would have dumped him on the spot, and I'm not particularly romantic.

EduCated · 26/01/2017 07:16

Agree with those saying you'd expect it in somewhere like Scribbler or Urban Outfitters, Paperchase not so much.

The warning is hardly worth it really, tiny strip of paper under the cards. Imagine most would only see that afterwards.

EduCated · 26/01/2017 07:17

And given the amount of kitten/unicorn/mermaid shit heave had in there recently, I'd definitely say as a shop they're trying to appeal to the younger age ranges.

pallasathena · 26/01/2017 07:19

Who thinks up this stuff and why......?

SoupDragon · 26/01/2017 07:22

I couldn't are less TBH.

Paperchase isn't a shop aimed at little kids IMO. Too expensive for a start.

SixthSenseless · 26/01/2017 07:23

Ah.
Paperchase just wandered their brand.

For cards that aren't even witty.

Stupid twats.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine opened a box of a Paperchase mixed Christmas cards to find it full of sexist Ho' Ho' Ho' cards about prostituutes. She took it back to the shop and got a patronising response that amounted to 'you are too old to be our target market and have no sense of humour', wrote to HQ and got a more veiled message saying the same thing.

Stupid, because I bet far more Paperchase customers are female.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2017 07:23

It's hardly "Ann Summers on the high street" inappropriate.

SixthSenseless · 26/01/2017 07:24

'Wankered' their brand, not wandered.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2017 07:27

the analysis one gives out a nasty message that women ought to do something they might not want to do in order to prove they love their partner, can certainly imagine teen girls getting that impression.

Really??? Where does it specify that women should "allow" anal sex rather than be "requesting" it? Clearly the range is aimed at both men and women.

SixthSenseless · 26/01/2017 07:27

SpupDragon, Paperchase is crammed with 11 year old girls when I go in.

Waterfeature · 26/01/2017 07:29

YANBU. Another shop to avoid.

Catsize · 26/01/2017 07:31

Utterly grim. Nothing like encouraging non-consensual intercourse to spread the love on Valentine's Day.

OnionKnight · 26/01/2017 07:33

They look crap, I like the cards that Love Layla do.

Just another example of pornification of the mainstream. Crass and not funny either. I won't be going there again. Overpriced too.

Elendon · 26/01/2017 07:35

Once more we see a prime example of how invasive porn has become. Why not show it to 10 year old girls, at that age they will know that soon they may have periods. They may as well know what's expected of them when it comes to heterosexual relationships. Vagina doesn't cut it sweetheart, you need to also take the big cock up the bum, that way you know he loves you.

Grim indeed.

Vandenessa · 26/01/2017 07:36

Chuff that's awful . So sorry to hear that happened to you Flowers

Elendon · 26/01/2017 07:36

Cross post with Yoda

I won't be going there again either.

SnugglySnerd · 26/01/2017 07:36

I can imagine that might be funny as a joke card between two adults in a relationship but I hate the implication of "If you loved me you'd do it".
I've always loved Paperchase so I'm disappointed by them. Agree I wouldn't have a problem with those being sold in Ann Summers.

On a slightly different subject, which young teens get enough pocket money to be able to spend it in Paperchase? I consider their stuff quite expensive for me to buy!

liz70 · 26/01/2017 07:37

"There are more adults in the world than kids"

Oh, well, that makes it all right, then, doesn't it? Hmm

minesapintofAFwine · 26/01/2017 07:41

Those cards are absolutely vile. I've a good card in response-open it and hear Meatloaf belt out 'I would do anything for love, but I won't do THAT'

surferjet · 26/01/2017 07:42

let's hope this new trend doesn't take off - dread to think what will be on next years cards.

Idefix · 26/01/2017 07:45

Grim, really grim.

This is a shop I have only ever gone into at dds request during her early teens. The place was usually rammed with similar age girls with or without bored looking parents.

I wonder who their target audience is for this product.

Trollspoopglitter · 26/01/2017 07:46

For those who say paperchase doesn't aim their products at young children and teens, do you shop there regularly?

If yes, I will be looking out for you and your paperchase notebook at my next work meeting.

Snuggly; they buy novelty rubbers (snurk) and little notebooks, birthday presents for friends, pencil cases, they have a stationery habit. Plenty of things in range for kids getting £5 a week, birthday money etc.
