To think Paperchase have lost their minds over cock and anal cards

Paperchase have a series of Valentine's cards with such witty captions as "I love your big cock" and "nothing says I love you like anal".

As a high street chain hugely popular with young people, I'd kind of expect them to understand some boundaries about graphic and sexually explicit language.

They're brazening it out on Twitter, claiming their minuscule disclaimer about the cards being rude is absolutely adequate.

Grim.

Their twitter page says they are now removing the three most offensive cards.

anonymousbird · 27/01/2017 10:23

Now the three "worst" are being removed.

About time, should never have been there in the first place.

anonymousbird · 27/01/2017 10:24

Oh sorry, entire range. Someone in the office is going to get hauled over the coals!

KERALA1 · 27/01/2017 11:02

I will be teaching my dds Caking (oldest is 10). What a lovely conversation to have to have with your gorgeous early teen, so grateful to the porn industry to have made this mainstream Angry Angry

stoopido · 27/01/2017 14:30

I will be avoiding Paperchase because my children will no doubt look around and read them all out very loudly in the middle of the shop. My 7 year is reading and clocking everything at the moment and my 9 year has a loud voice so will no doubt ask me very loudly what the cards mean. I don't really want to get in to the ins and outs of anal sex while I am shopping for a fancy eraser with my 9 year old. Grin Blush

Flowersonthewall · 27/01/2017 14:43

Not shopped in paper chase for years...ridiculously expensive for what it is. This has just confirmed I won't be shopping there ever again.

Not funny and not clever!

BakeOffBiscuits · 27/01/2017 14:51

To anyone who hasn't RTFT.......

PAPERCHASE HAVE WITHDRAWN THE COCK CARDS

Hope you've all got that Grin

KERALA1 · 27/01/2017 14:56

Cancel the cheque Grin

BakeOffBiscuits · 27/01/2017 15:10

Indeed Kerala!

I should have also added.....

THEY HAVE WITHDRAWN THE ANAL CARD TOO

Just so we all know!

KERALA1 · 27/01/2017 15:22

Bet thats a sentence you never thought you would type Baking

Datun · 27/01/2017 18:28

Surely the response to be ing "badgered" for anal by a teenage oik is to whip out a large dildo and say wide eyed "of course my darling, always wanted to try this, bend over"

Exactly. Grin

Datun · 27/01/2017 18:36

And I am so not having a go to those mumsnetters who enjoy anal.

However, perhaps it remains something of an acquired taste. And I do think it is tied up somewhat in what the man wants, rather than what the woman wants (disclaimer, not all the time). And again, there is nothing 'wrong' with that.

It's the 'trending' expectation that's the problem. Largely fuelled by pornography that if you don't want to do it, you are a prude. You can I have it on the menu, so to speak, but it should not be an expectation.

BigFatGoalie · 27/01/2017 19:09

Personally, I couldn't care less what store it is, whether it's a store aimed at adults, teenagers or preteens.
I just don't understand why these cards need to be in ANY store.
Standards of decency are slipping at an alarming rate, these are the sorts of things you would never have seen 10 years ago, so why is it suddenly ok?!

BigFatGoalie · 27/01/2017 19:11

Apologies.
Am cancelling the cheque 😂

Waffles80 · 27/01/2017 20:45

THEY HAVE WITHDRAWN THE ANAL CARD TOO

This needs to be the new cancel the cheque.

Very bad taste. Whatever happened to good old fashioned romance.

slightlyglitterbrained · 27/01/2017 21:37

I HEARD THEY WITHDREW THE CARDS.

However, I'm still going to associate their brand with coercive sex. So I don't know how likely I am to buy stuff again. It's not the association you want when trying to pick out a birthday card is it? Scared teenage girls being coerced into painful and possibly damaging sex?

Waffles80 · 28/01/2017 06:35

Walked past their store in Euston station yesterday at the end of a work trip. Would usually buy a handful of gifts for my children, not anymore.

Waffles80 · 28/01/2017 06:38

GOD. Just seen this one on Twitter.

Unsure if they've removed this as the design indicates it's from a different range.

Again, horrible coercive tone.

Where's the romance?! Valentines is forced romance anyway...make your own!! Cheaper, and less commercialised too!

abbsisspartacus · 28/01/2017 06:44

I don't care if they have withdrawn the cards I don't trust the brand anymore and won't be going again

HolisticAssassin · 28/01/2017 10:28

Well, they neither offended me nor my teen DD.
Nothing says Valentine's like anal would have been better 'joke' ie. once a year...Wink But essentially women weren't the demographic...they were cards to buy for men who have a puerile sense of humour. Which includes mine who laughed at two of them.
That said, you know it's dodgy as fuck when the Sun picks up the story (I googled paperchase and MN to find thread again).

HolisticAssassin · 28/01/2017 10:35

Wank me off before you go go is a solid joke. Sadly George is no longer with us but you could bet your bottom dollar he would have laughed at that or even bought it
This is pearl-clutching at its finest.

Waffles80 · 28/01/2017 10:42

I'm not clutching any pearls. I just don't want to have to explain wanking to a four year old.
