To refuse eating or buying anything halal?

Is somebody unreasonable to refuse to buy or eat anything halal?

I'm not sure. I mean, everybody gets to choose what they want to eat (or not eat). But still...

I bet he voted leave...Wink

He sounds "lovely"

ClaryIsTheBest · 25/01/2017 14:56

He is really lovely.

As I said, anybody saying he's intolerant/a bigot hopefully says the same about a Muslim that wouldn't... go to a gay bar, for example.

I won't eat halal I only eat British meat, eggs, milk etc.

A Muslim wouldn't go to a bar full stop. Muslims however would be quite happy to buy a mop and bucket from a hardware store that happened to be owned by a gay person.

To suggest they'd act otherwise would be ridiculous.

titchy · 25/01/2017 15:45

I won't eat halal I only eat British meat, eggs, milk etc.

LOL - then you're eating halal!

Megatherium · 25/01/2017 15:47

HookandSwan, you will find plenty of British meat that is halal.

Do you boycott Indian restaurants?

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 15:47

i buy my meat eggs and milk from a butcher...so No I'm not eating halal.

Megatherium · 25/01/2017 15:48

Just as an example, for Christians it's advisable to steer clear from food "blessed" by what they would deem as false god.

Does any mainstream Christian church actually require that? It seems really illogical: if it's a false god then it's only a meaningless form of words and can't conceivably weaken or challenge a "real" god.

However, that would mean that they have no problems with halal, since Muslims worship the same god as Christians do.

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 15:49

No I don't boycott Indian restaurants. I love how ppl try to twist everything in to discrimination and racism!

I don't agree with how the religion kills the animal!

Fine if I eat in a restaurant that serves it then that is of course unavoidable.

Megatherium · 25/01/2017 15:50

HookandSwan, have a look at sparechange's post. The fact that you are buying from a butcher is no guarantee that you are not buying halal. What do you do in restaurants and other people's houses?

Megatherium · 25/01/2017 15:50

OK, so when you said you weren't eating halal, Hook, you meant that actually you are.

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 15:52

I buy from a butcher who I've known for my whole life. I'm a farmer he's a butcher. I know exactly where my meat comes from.

Of course you can't control what other people do,

What I said was I don't buy it, if I'm eating out etc no I can't control what it is.
stop being so pedantic and ofended by something you don't need to be offended about!

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 15:54

look Megatherium your gonna pathetically twist everything I say so there is no real point continuing this conversation.

Someone started a thread I replied to it, I don't need to exain myself to you.

RestlessTraveller · 25/01/2017 15:56

I won't buy or eat any halal meat and I don't think I'm unreasonable.

PickledCauliflower · 25/01/2017 15:59

I don't see why not wanting to eat halal meat is unreasonable.

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 16:03

PickledCauliflower its personal choice

Megatherium · 25/01/2017 16:05

I'm not twisting anything, HookandSwan.

You claimed not to eat halal, but then admitted that you do. You say that you don't eat halal because of the slaughter methods used, yet they are the same slaughter methods as are used for non-halal meat save that a prayer is said over the animals. I'm trying to work out your logic.

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 16:08

Megerthuim ok whatever I really don't care about the opinion of some random on the internet lol

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 16:11

Animals are not stunned before they are killed and have their throats slit and are aware as the convulse and bleed to death.

The non halal way animals are stunned first it's more humane.

PickledCauliflower · 25/01/2017 16:15

It is personal choice, but then in many places now (eating out) it's halal meat or no meat.
I don't eat meat, but if I did - I would not want to eat meat that was killed by ritual slaughter (Halal or Kosher). I understand that others feel like this and don't find it at all unreasonable.

cherrytree63 · 25/01/2017 16:15

My personal view (sorry for straying from the original question) is that how the animals live before they get to the abattoir is what needs improving.
I don't eat meat any more because of ethical and health reasons.
But I do eat eggs, from my own free range chickens.

bonfireheart · 25/01/2017 16:17

It is personal choice, but then in many places now (eating out) it's halal meat or no meat.
Really, where are all these many places?

Iknowyouwontlikethis · 25/01/2017 16:17

Most halal meat is stunned. And is still halal

Motherofhowmany · 25/01/2017 16:17

Non-halal slaughter houses are no more humane than halal ones.

at the end of the day if you eat meat of any kind you can never be sure how ethically sourced it is.

cherrytree63 · 25/01/2017 16:19

...posted too soon...
I'm genuinely interested in the couple of posts saying halal also means that the animal is treated well before slaughter. Does that mean treated well all the while it's in the slaughter house, or does it include the rearing beforehand?
