To wonder why domestic violence is seen as a womans issue and abused men are often ignored

Not trying to start an argument, am just curious that's all.

40% of domestic violence victims are men yet male victims seemed to be ignored a lot of the time.

Women have shelters and refuges but there seems to be little in place to help abused men. I've just googled help for male dv victims in my city and there's nothing Sad

AIBU to think there should be more help for male victims and we should be working on removing the stigma attached to being a male victim?

They are trying to raise awareness but uniformed bystanders are claiming their stats are fake- they know, they have an anecdote.

Or bizarrely- they are mens rights people? Whats wrong with that? Noone seems to have a problem with womens rights groups

UnbornMortificado · 24/01/2017 22:08

I've just read an article on the new DV laws in Russia.

Apparently the first attack with now be dealt with as "administrational" rather then a criminal offence.

venusinscorpio · 24/01/2017 22:08

I'm talking about the UK figures. I haven't read every single country's worldwide.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 24/01/2017 22:09

Whats wrong with that?

Lol.

venusinscorpio · 24/01/2017 22:10

Men's rights groups are more interested in attacking feminism than you know, men's rights.

auntyhiro · 24/01/2017 22:10

You are not suited to your job, you are clearly a profoundly bigoted person.

WRA clearly just want men to suffer in silence,

auntyhiro · 24/01/2017 22:10

Data from Home Office statistical bulletins and the British Crime Survey show that men made up about 40% of domestic violence victims each year between 2004-05 and 2008-09, the last year for which figures are available. In 2006-07 men made up 43.4% of all those who had suffered partner abuse in the previous year, which rose to 45.5% in 2007-08 but fell to 37.7% in 2008-09.

Similar or slightly larger numbers of men were subjected to severe force in an incident with their partner, according to the same documents. The figure stood at 48.6% in 2006-07, 48.3% the next year and 37.5% in 2008-09, Home Office statistics show.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 24/01/2017 22:10

You mean like how mens health is prioritised? Oh wait, it is exactly the opposite.

Spoken like a true MRA drone.

Boring 😴

Bibblewanda · 24/01/2017 22:13

You are not suited to your job, you are clearly a profoundly bigoted person.

Well one I don't do paid work in DV anymore.

But my voluntary position is with an organisation for women only so actually I am suited to it thanks very much.

As for "what's wrong with men's rights?" - it's like saying "what's wrong with rights for whites". They already have all the rights, they are the privileged ones. Women are oppressed. Not men.

auntyhiro · 24/01/2017 22:13

Lol imagine if men had rights?

Good one. I find your opinions refreshing and would like to subsribe to your newsletter. I would love to hear your opinions on the Jews and what rights we might be eligible for?

user1484317265 · 24/01/2017 22:14

How do you think womens services were gained, helplines and refuges etc? Do you think we were just handed them? No, we fought long and very hard for every last bit, we fundraise and fight daily. Because we know how these things are needed.

If men have these needs, why aren';t they fighting for it too? You say men are being ignored...by who? By MEN. By the people who keep the money: more MEN. Why aren't men fundraising for mens refuges then?
BECAUSE THEY DON'T NEED ANY.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 24/01/2017 22:14

Lol imagine if men had rights?

Hmm
redwinewhine · 24/01/2017 22:15

What's interesting is that the group most likely to suffer from domestic violence are lesbian women.

venusinscorpio · 24/01/2017 22:15

The problems with Crime Survey statistics are clearly explained in several of the many handy links on this thread, and by various posters.

user1484317265 · 24/01/2017 22:16

That isn't backed up by the facts either.

auntyhiro · 24/01/2017 22:16

All the rights?

Women and men are not treated the same when it comes to homelessness. Women are not forced to pay to raise other womens children (Child of the family' scotland)

So not quite

Bibblewanda · 24/01/2017 22:16

Lol imagine if men had rights?

What rights don't they have then? Enlighten us.

Bibblewanda · 24/01/2017 22:17

What's interesting is that the group most likely to suffer from domestic violence are lesbian women

No reliable evidence to back this up at all.

Bibblewanda · 24/01/2017 22:19

Out of interest aunty, for every one man "paying to raise another man's child" how many men are there out there who don't pay a penny towards their kids?

Jesus wept, it's like MRA bingo.

witsender · 24/01/2017 22:24

Fuck me aunty, you are on a roll tonight. 😂😂

user1484317265 · 24/01/2017 22:25

Is auntyhiro posting from a rooftop while wearing a batman suit, or what?

redwinewhine · 24/01/2017 22:31

Granted it was a US based study, but it was carried out by a Government Federal agency. Why do you think the results are incorrect?

venusinscorpio · 24/01/2017 22:32

User Grin

venusinscorpio · 24/01/2017 22:35

I'm not commenting on the US, but based on the UK situation I personally doubt the figures are accurate and imagine that something is skewing them. But I can't comment as I haven't read the report.

user1484317265 · 24/01/2017 22:37

Why do you think they aren't? How big was the study? Has it been repeated and verified? Is it valid, is it reliable? If you don't know, you shouldn;t be quoting it with authority.
