Furious: Girl Guides now admitting boys

shinynewusername · 22/01/2017 10:06

Sorry for DM link but this is important. Brownies and Guides are going to admit boys if they identify as girls. Girls will have to share 'single sex' facilities including tents & changing rooms with them. Parents won't be told. Oh, and men who identify as women can become Brownie & Guide leaders, where they will get to supervise girls in those tents, changing rooms etc.

How is this possible? There is an epidemic of sexual abuse. We are still in the fall-out of Rotherham, Saville etc yet we are enabling men to have access to every safe space for girls. AIBU?

So just because 'Danielle Muscato' isnt making 'any effort' then all the trans are bad? and by effort, do you mean she should be wearing skirts and make up and no facial hair? (remember not so long ago, all 'the gays were peados' too)

And 'Danielle Muscato' would not be left alone with children in GG - our leaders of scouts are always in 2s

tinydancer88 · 22/01/2017 10:34

How can the world becoming a more loving and accepting place be anything but a good model for a child?

Agreed.

NormaSmuff · 22/01/2017 10:35

what do you think the boys will do once they identify as girls and join guides?

Gallavich · 22/01/2017 10:36

Other are admitting girls and those living as girls. Which is not the same as a boy in any ordinary parlance. It's not the same as a girl either

How are boys who identity as girls different to boys? I mean apart from having long hair and wearing dresses?

thecolonelbumminganugget · 22/01/2017 10:36

Hello, guide leader here.

to clear a couple of things up. Regardless of what gender we identify as: we do not watch girls in changing rooms, we do not sleep in the same tents as the girls, if we are in a situation that requires us to have privacy with a child e.g.to administer first aid it is never done one to one there is always another leader there. And yes, there are male unit helpers, it is very common. Men are involved in guides in various capacities.

shinynewusername · 22/01/2017 10:36

No problem with people being trans. Huge problem with that then meaning they are exactly the same as a woman/girl and get access to female only spaces

This.

These are kids mixing with other kids, all of which consider themselves female

But the male ones aren't female

They can consider themselves unicorns if they want, doesn't make it fact

Datun · 22/01/2017 10:37

If girl guides is a female only organisation - and they are basing this definition on gender presentation, then it is absolutely going to exclude girls. Girls who present as boys, i.e. a male gender presentation, will be excluded. You can't say it is based on gender for boys who present as girls, but based on sex for girls who present as boys.

As there are many more girls attending gender clinics than boys (a previous poster on here told of five girls coming out simultaneously in her daughter's class at school) this will no doubt effect some of those in the GG movement.

When the parents of those girls complain that their biological daughters are not allowed in the guides, I suspect the guides will make another announcement saying it is open to all. Boys and girls.

Parents who would prefer a predominantly girl only environment for their daughters, would have to find another female only group. Except there won't be one.

ghostyslovesheets · 22/01/2017 10:38

3rd thread this week- lots of furious outraged people

Do you worry about lesbians in the guides?

LoveDeathPrizes · 22/01/2017 10:38

Probably all sorts ay? Moral compasses out of the window!

This kind of hysteria has been the antecedent of all significant social change. We look back on it retrospectively and shake our heads. I wouldn't be surprised if these conversations were held up as textbook examples of intolerance in years to come.

Gallavich · 22/01/2017 10:39

Do you not think that any man who 'simply says he identifies as a woman' is not going to raise a few eyebrows?

No, because even raising eyebrows at such a person is transphobic and would invite legal action. All a man needs to do is declare he is a woman, possibly put on a dress and a wig, and by trans logic he is a woman. Soon enough that will be enough to become a woman in law.

Katnisnevergreen · 22/01/2017 10:39

Also, it won't preclude girls from joining guides as long as their mothers are open minded and not bigoted narrow viewed people...surely those of you saying it will ruin guides mean, I now refuse to send my daughter to guides therefore I better blame someone else for this?

shinynewusername · 22/01/2017 10:39

Regardless of what gender we identify as: we do not watch girls in changing rooms, we do not sleep in the same tents as the girls,

But boys will be sleeping in the same tents as girls.

Those who feel trans boys and girls shouldn't have access to the same activities and spaces as those whose biological sex tallies with their gender, where should they be going instead of Guides? As they very possibly don't feel comfortable with Scouts for obvious reasons.

Are they just excluded?
Do they have a segregated Guides group?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 22/01/2017 10:39

The issue surely isn't paedophiles or inappropriate adult behaviour.

It's that Guiding has always been a female only organisation. They stuck to that, with very sensible and clear reasons, when Scouts went co-ed.

It's been changed without discussion from it's members.

I would not allow my 13 year old daughter to share her bedroom with a 13 year old penis owner. So, if Guiding is going to be a challenge, and, we are both involved in the movement and both love it. Gutted.

Gallavich · 22/01/2017 10:40

Do you worry about lesbians in the guides?

No, because lesbians are female and women don't sexually abuse children anywhere near as much as men do. Of every 100 sex offenders, 97 will be men.

Wtfdoipick · 22/01/2017 10:40

My dd is a member of guiding association, currently only in rainbows but as she gets older I will not allow overnight trips due to this issue. As a parent I have the right to only want my dd to sleep in a single sex environment however this change takes away my right to have that guarantee with guiding so I feel my only choice is to stop her doing any overnights. My concern is boys as members not men as leaders, as an ex guide myself I'm happy that with the leaders there are enough safeguards in place

shinynewusername · 22/01/2017 10:41

when in actual fact it's 'boys and men who identify as female' which is straight away a completely different thing

How is it different? 80% of men who identify as women have no undergone any gender reassignment treatment and most are sexually attracted to women.

I believe we will look back at the transing of gender non conforming children and shake our heads at the abuse perpetrated on these children in the name of 'progressiveness'

LoveDeathPrizes · 22/01/2017 10:41

Come off it. There are very few people here afraid of appearing transphobic so I doubt your logic there.

Jesus your depiction of a transgendered person is highly offensive. It's like something from a Carry On film. Where have you been for the last twenty years?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 22/01/2017 10:42

Guiding has been the ONLY worldwide movement run entirely by women, entirely for women.

To lose this is really upsetting.

Mellowautumn · 22/01/2017 10:42

Hello guide leader - very reassuring - except biological boys will be able to sleep in the same tent/room as biological girls, will be able to change with, watch biological girls change. Won't they ???? And the parents of said girls won't know this. The age of these girls 10-14 is puberty when thier bodies are changing and when they are developing thier body image - sometimes for life. And Norma - I expect most to be fine but also expect a few to be sexually active as I know some boys and girls of 14 already are in my daughters class

FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers · 22/01/2017 10:42

How can the world becoming a more loving and accepting place be anything but a good model for a child?

Because the loving and accepting place that the world is becoming is preventing children with gender identity disorder getting mental health help and is pushing very young children down a path of life long hormones and surgeries.

LoveDeathPrizes · 22/01/2017 10:43

This is about the adults.

Unless you'd like to level accusations of perverse interest against children too?

nick247 · 22/01/2017 10:43

Many scouts/ cubs groups etc have female leaders, do people assume that the lady Akela gets changed with her charges? These groups have all also admitted girls recently, so what is the problem with what you still insist on calling 'boys' joining brownies. I am really glad that I brought up my daughter to be more tolerant that many of you.
