Trump prods reluctant Melania to speak

She doesn't want to be there.

I feel quite sorry for her.

Of course she wouldn't be president being a single women or divorced woman of an ex president She wasn't liked when her husband was president I can't see how she would have become more popular when he was actually a very popular president

MakeItStopNeville · 20/01/2017 12:35

Melania looked like a malfunctioning robot yesterday when she left the stage. I have little sympathy for her. She seems to be coping just fine. She doesn't even have to move to D.C. yet, despite it costing so much for her and Baron stay in NY.

Flowerfae · 20/01/2017 13:36

Unless she's signed a pre-nup (doubt it) she is probably thinking he'll get assassinated, which at the moment doesn't seem impossible.

SirChenjin · 20/01/2017 13:43

I feel very sorry for her - and I don't tend to feel sorry for women who marry men for their money. What he did there was a shitty thing for a husband to do to his wife - in the words of MN, Melania, LTB as soon as you can. Run fast and do not look back.

TheNiffler · 20/01/2017 13:48

I feel sorry for her too, and I can't help remembering their poor son on election night, he looked frozen with fear :(

ExplodedCloud · 20/01/2017 13:55

To be fair, Michelle Obama is a hard act to follow! Melania isn't in the same league and she seems aware of that. I don't imagine she would have had a say in his decision to run.

dovesong · 20/01/2017 13:59

I don't give a single fuck about her. She married a disgusting man and chose to stay married to him. She's complicit in all the revolting things he says. The whole family is utter scum.

Peregrina · 20/01/2017 13:59

Michelle is a hard act to follow, and even she needed time to grow into the job.

Bluntness100 · 20/01/2017 14:00

Unless she's signed a pre-nup (doubt it)

PickledCauliflower · 20/01/2017 14:07

I have no idea if she is happy married to him or not.
If not, I don't imagine she would have any problems divorcing him.

Olympiathequeen · 20/01/2017 14:15

Look. She married one of the vilest men in the world for his money. She's there as the trophy wife. I can't feel sorry for a gold digger. Zero sympathy factor.

SirChenjin · 20/01/2017 14:17

Ye, she's what's charmingly known as a gold digger - but that doesn't warrant public humiliation on international TV.

Many women marry for money and security im with sirchenjin she doesn't deserve to be prodded along and embaressed on tv

Pallisers · 20/01/2017 14:24

The guys worth four billion

My eye! He'd like us all to believe that. My guess is he doesn't release his tax returns because it will show that this incredible success/wealth is just smoke and mirrors and his net worth is relatively little. He sells his name - a brand - I doubt he actually outright owns much.

(She may have made a terrible mistake but I have to say, she is wearing a very nice outfit today while she makes it.)

LunaLoveg00d · 20/01/2017 14:26

I think she's petrified beecause she's realised that compared with strong first ladies like Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and even Nancy Regan, she's an intellectual lightweight. She isn't educated, doesn't claim to be educated, isn't a lawyer, activist or anything else. She doesn't have English as a first language. She is smart enough however to realise her failings and knows she doesn't measure up. That's why the native English speaking and much more articulate Ivanka steps in.

However, in that situation, the Donald should allow her to take the "stand still, smile and nod" role. Say nothing. Look supportive. But it's all about him and not about her, isn't it?

PickledCauliflower · 20/01/2017 14:28

I'm guessing you don't walk away from Donald - he walks away from you so she's stuck there.

His marriage to Ivana Trump ended when she filed for divorce.

DownHereInTheHorridHouse · 20/01/2017 14:38

I'm sure it was all planned.

Part of the script is that DT is a 'real man' in the eyes of those who voted for him - and real men tell their wives what to do, just as 'real women' don't push themselves forwards. It's the perfect contrast to Michelle Obama, after all, for Trump followers. He can't have 'his' wife writing her own script, it all has to be managed - and the appalling things that have been said about Michelle Obama reveal just what his supporters want for the FLOTUS.

PootlewasthebestFlump · 20/01/2017 14:39

I really felt for her there and I think she did brilliantly.

The BBC cut out the full context, which is that she had just had a standing ovation from a room full of people

ExplodedCloud · 20/01/2017 14:53

Luna didn't she claim to have post grad degrees in something legal?

BarbarianMum · 20/01/2017 14:55

I agree Downhere And although Michelle Obama has a big following worldwide there are still a lot of racist bigots people in the USA that were horrified to see a black woman as First Lady. They will love Melania for being white, and for acting like an obedient, silent clothes horse.

SirChenjin · 20/01/2017 14:56

Of course - these are Trump supporters who see no wrong in what he did. He told her to speak, she had to speak - just like a good little woman should.

BastardGoDarkly · 20/01/2017 15:00

Aaargh, he's such a cunt!

But I don't feel sympathy for her, she knows who and what he is, it must be worth it to her, for whatever reason.
