Trump prods reluctant Melania to speak

She doesn't want to be there.

I feel quite sorry for her.

Yes, thank you for highlighting that bit One. I agree 100%.

SapphireBird · 24/01/2017 23:29

I might be totally wrong, but when the Obamas met with Trump and Melania, it struck me how 'protective' they seemed to be of her. Guiding her and supporting her. They may be like that with everyone, but it certainly stood out.

fuffapster · 25/01/2017 09:37

Here's some more photos. I think she probably wishes he hadn't got elected, but who knows...

That GIF of her face falling as Trump appears to mouth something to her (that's what it looks like anyway) is horrible.

Ok

Playing devil's advocate.

I'm sure someone could come up with a load of photos showing them smiling and happy. We know it's easy for the press to sway opinion by choosing carefully what they publish.

The Obamas look happy and relaxed - they have eight years to get used to the pomp. The Trumps (well, Melania) could quite rightly have been scared/ have massive stage nerves up there.

It's hard to stay smiley and happy when 1000s of cameras are on you the entire day and the world's media is watching you the whole time.

There are many reasons she could have been looking unhappy - not least worrying about a possible assassination attempt on the day (however unlikely). Worrying about falling over/ dong something stupid. Worrying how Baron would behave.

Looking back at the pictures of Michelle, I don't think she was that gracious (And it pains me to say this) she should have just accepted and smiled. (Michelle brought a gift when Obama was inaugurated, so it's not like it was unexpected).

I don't know.

I am devastated that Trump has been elected, but I am VERY wary of being swayed by the media. The more I look, the more I am unsure.

As meantiined somewhere upthread, when she looks down, she definite whispers 'Baron'. Who know why and whether it was something Trump said.

I don't think they expected this and I think it's going to be a disaster. I'm not sure...

SapphireBird · 25/01/2017 11:19

^looking back at the picture of Michelle pulling a face when accepting Melania's gift.

There were many happy, smiley moments, it just needs one person to collate them to prove how happy the are.

SapphireBird · 25/01/2017 11:34

Interesting on Snopes

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 25/01/2017 11:41

Didn't something come up on Twitter to rape her or something disgraceful like that?

The Trump campaign apparently planted people holding 'Rape Melania' placards at one of his rallies in order to make his opponents seem like violent monsters and to further shore up support. Disgraceful indeed.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 25/01/2017 11:53

buntyShock Politics are a joke. Shame these jokers are now in charge Hmm From the Obamas to this is a spectacular back step.

This video seems to show very clearly that he says something nasty to melania. Ivanka is in the background and you can see her face drop too. It also shows it in slow motion

SirChenjin · 25/01/2017 14:44

I really hope that the scrutiny of her behaviour doesn't make his treatment of her any worse behind closed doors Sad

Not the Trump campaign, a Trump supporter. twitter.com/jackposobiec
And that's based on a sourceless article by Buzzfeed.

Looking back at the pictures of Michelle, I don't think she was that gracious (And it pains me to say this) she should have just accepted and smiled. (Michelle brought a gift when Obama was inaugurated, so it's not like it was unexpected).

SapphireBird I took that up differently - That Michelle was showing her exasperation of Trump leaving Melania to come around the car and up the steps by herself. When the Obamas met the Bushs, O waited for Michelle to come around the car and took her arm, escorting her up as a couple going to meet another couple. This time, Trump just marches up and his arm candy wife has to fend for herself.

Then the Orange cunt then strolls in to the WH past the Obamas and leave them to exchange pleasantries and escort Melania in. So I don't think it was the gift that caused Michelle's face, it was the dismissive behaviour of Trump that she winced at.

Chippednailvarnishing · 25/01/2017 15:42

Michelle's side eye said it all!

SapphireBird · 25/01/2017 16:47

I'm not saying I disagree.

I'm just pointing out that there are many different interpretations (as can be evidenced on to this thread).

We need to be careful to try to stick to facts. There are people (not just here) creating a whole back story based on a photo (which coke be out of context) or a look.

Only the closest people know. Just like Trump with his 'alternative truths', we need to be aware that we don't read too much into very little.
And come up with the wrong truth.

I was appalled by the way Trump ignored Melania when he got out of the car and when he pushed between the two women. What I can't know it what THEY were thinking at that moment - even though I can have my opinion about it.

Bestthingever · 25/01/2017 16:47

Its cringeworthy how he just charges ahead. She must have been feeling really awkward. I would have in her shoes.

SapphireBird · 25/01/2017 16:48

Could be taken out of, not 'coke be out' Hmm

SapphireBird · 25/01/2017 16:50

But that's it. 'She MUST be feeling that way, because that's how I would feel'.

It's speculation, not fact.

I wouldn't feel awkward, I would feel annoyed!

We need to be careful not to be played by the media.

I do feel very sorry for her, but the media knows that people are feeling thi, so that's what they show...

SapphireBird · 25/01/2017 16:51

'Are feeling this way'

SirChenjin · 25/01/2017 16:54

Sapphire - if she feels anything other than humiliation at his treatment of her then I would suggest that she's become immune to his god awful behaviour over the years, which in itself is very sad. It wasn't as if he realised his mistake and immediately went back for her - it's as if she doesn't really feature on his radar at all, other than as something pretty to hang off his arm when needed. Nothing he has done thus far suggests anything to the contrary imo.

Bestthingever · 25/01/2017 17:02

I agree Sapphire. I would probably feel awkward but perhaps she's made of tough stuff. However it's bloody rude and shows how egocentric he is.
I remember reading that when Ivana had first got together with him, they had dinner with his parents, the father ordered for everyone. When Ivana objected and chose her own meal, the father was furious and Donald went ballistic at her when they got home. We don't have to inherit our parents attitudes but I think he has.

SapphireBird · 26/01/2017 11:27

That's an interesting article.

HoHumming · 26/01/2017 11:57

I'd say she is happy to put up with his brutish behaviour for the lifestyle it affords her. She isn't the first woman to marry for money and she won't be the last.
