Trump prods reluctant Melania to speak

She doesn't want to be there.

I feel quite sorry for her.

No one need feel sorry for Melanie Trump.

Bubblebathwater · 20/01/2017 09:54

She either married him for his personality (which would make her also a massive twat because he's a vile human being) or she married him for his money.

Could of been for his good looks too

SparklyFuckingBusinessFairy · 20/01/2017 09:55

It's almost like she married him for money.

Bobochic · 20/01/2017 09:56

I expect that Trump's Dictator-chic aesthetic was aspirational for a girl from the Eastern European provinces.

FreelanceProblems · 20/01/2017 09:57

Sheba Grin

Clandestino · 20/01/2017 09:58

I don't feel sorry for her. She seems to enjoy the luxury and status of the first lady. She's the perfect elbow decoration, always few steps back behind the boss, looking beautiful and smiling as much as her botox allows. She seems to enjoy the life so why feel sorry for her?

SapphireBird · 20/01/2017 09:58

I feel very, very sorry for her.

BakeOffBiscuits · 20/01/2017 09:58

As you say OP, he controlling and a bully.

Who the fuck forces their reluctant wife to make a speech infront of millions of people on live TV?

I expect later on, he told her he did the right thing as she was "really great".

If he does that kind of thing to her in public wtf is he like in private?

MalletsMallets · 20/01/2017 09:59

She looks petrified.

squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 09:59

Marrying a much older man for money isn't a choice I would make, but I don't think doing so makes a woman a despicable person.
Sexual assault, bullying, spreading lies, defrauding others for their money, encouraging violence, and stirring up racism and hate for more power does make someone a despicable person though.

SapphireBird · 20/01/2017 10:00

Maybe people should go onto the relationships boards and tell people in there that they knew what they were getting in to. Sad

Niskayuna · 20/01/2017 10:01

That arm swing gesture was awfully aggressive. My heart leapt a bit there.

DearMrDilkington · 20/01/2017 10:01

Has Donald always being a knob though? Maybe he wasn't as bad when she married him.

I think we're all forgetting how many woman post on here saying their dh has done something awful, but they still defend them to the death, calling them a wonderful husband/father to dc..

LadyGlitterSparklesSeriously · 20/01/2017 10:03

She knew she had to, she'd already shaken her head and he just ignored her and walked away from the podium. In order to not make a fuss she had to do it.

But he's not a bully, oh no!

juneau · 20/01/2017 10:05

He's a horrible bully. We know that. She (almost certainly) married him for money. We suspect that. Does she want to be First Lady? Clearly not. Did he really want to be President or think he would be? Clearly not. I believe he entered the race to shake things up a bit and raise his profile. It's an unsatisfactory result for the entire world. She is but one victim of many billions.

11122aa · 20/01/2017 10:06

I think they still quite happy together but she never wanted or expected to become first lady or her husband to become president. I get the impression that unlike many past first ladies she wont be much of a confident or support for the president.

squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 10:06

From what I'v read and heard about his past, yes he has always been a knob.
Of course even the nastiest people can put on a charming act for a short time (in fact sociopaths are renowned for it).

MalletsMallets · 20/01/2017 10:07

I love that the BBC have put this on their website

honeyroar · 20/01/2017 10:07

I can't say that I feel sorry for her. Although she didn't quite get the life she expected, I guess, the billionaire's wife that doesn't have to do anything. I think she will struggle in the role of First Lady. They look completely awkward together, like they've barely spoken in their lives. It will be a very interesting four years!

MsGameandWatch · 20/01/2017 10:08

I don't think that his ex wives were "able to leave". Far more likely they were dumped and new models installed.

I don't feel sorry for her because I am not in the habit of feeling sorry for billionaires. Life is easier for them no matter what their problems may be.

squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 10:08

I also think he was a knob when he (or his speech writers) embarrassed her with the copy of Michelle's speech. She had obviously been given it to read, not written it herself, but took all the flak for it.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 20/01/2017 10:11

Many women have married a man who portrayed himself as reasonable and then found out the truth later. Even he could pull the wool over her eyes until it was too late. Give the woman a break. She looks utterly miserable.

iloveeverykindofcat · 20/01/2017 10:13

She's made a few. I have no sympathy for her. Her defense of Trump throws women under the bus for her own benefit.

Freshprincess · 20/01/2017 10:13

If it wasnt planned and totally off the cuff she did Brilliantly. I'd be a gibbering wreck. I suspect she'll go down the arm candy First Lady route.
I have some sympathy for her, her husband is a prize twat after all.

diddl · 20/01/2017 10:15

Looks rehearsed to me.
