What brokenbiscuit said. Yes she may have been attracted by his money in what is an age-old equation - rich powerful man gets a wife who's much younger and more attractive than him. That doesn't mean it's OK to treat her with disrespect, which he has done and is doing for the world to see (not just the speech, but his revolting attitude to women in general and his obvious willingness to be unfaithful, and his attitude to immigrants - in her shoes I'd be fuming). And while he hasn't been convicted of anything, there's a mountain of evidence that he's not nice to women, to say the very least.
I'm really sorry for her, whatever her reasons for marrying him. As an immigrant whose first language isn't English she is not going to be able to do a Michelle that easily - Michelle is a Chicago lawyer who knows how to construct a speech and address a crowd, she knew the trajectory she was on and she had her husband's support. (Not that I'm saying Michelle isn't great, I bloody love her, just that she was in a much better position to do first lady-ing with flair.)
Also I sometimes think that where there's a language barrier / a couple have different first languages, it can mean that one partner doesn't really get why the other is a twat, at least initially. Do you know what I mean? It's possible to get things about people from how they talk and what they say, when it's your mother tongue, and that doesn't happen to the same degree when it's not. That gives him another layer of power given that it's his country they're in.
