To want to never go to the cinema again?

Every. Single. Time. I go to the cinema, there's at least one person who talks/texts/crunches through the film and generally does their best to ruin it for everyone. I usually feel too hesitant to say anything as they've already proven themselves lunatics who care not for others.

Last night it was LA LA Land. Absolutely brilliant, gorgeous film, ruined by some tosser who decided to loudly tap his foot throughout every musical number. He wasn't even in time.

I love watching films but AIBU to not spend any more money on going out to see them, because no one knows how to behave politely? We have Netflix, Google and Amazon video I suppose...

Skyy what a lovely example of empathy to display to Nathan

I struggle with noise too Nathan, especially a "wall of noise" iyswim. I can't hear well and I can't concentrate if there's too much other noise. But I try to be understanding, and try not to judge. Because it's not anyone else's fault I have issues with noise, and it may not be their fault that they're making noise.

Its kind of disheartening to me that people have replied calling me a dickhead when Im genuinely trying to work out whether the times Ive asked (politely) for people to not do the annoying thing, I was actually being insensitive by calling attention to it.

I also have Misophonia and am high-functioning Aspie, not that thats any kind of out to anything but it does mean that all the people gleefully announcing that they just "ignore it because I'm a nice person!" really do not get that that isnt an option for me. I spend my life tolerating things because I know they dont annoy most people.

If that was aimed at me, my comment wasn't aimed at you.

I will try to be more mindful in future. Thank you, Nathan.

Storm. I too am an Aspie. As long as you've asked pleasantly and accepted gracefully if told that nothing can be done, I'm sure you've been fine. If it really is obvious that the person can't help it, as is the case with my DS, then it would be much appreciated if you either left him alone or made him aware that you're not bothered. I'm fairly sure you haven't asked for someone with tourette's syndrome to be removed from the premises.

If they're checking social media or making phone calls im still going to think they're a dick though.

Thread appears to have moved on but I will still say this.

Having a box or bag of popcorn and a drink is part of the whole cinema experience. I have never in my life heard anyone 'crunch' popcorn (unless it's the toffee stuff that you don't get at cinemas), mostly because popcorn is soft!
I have been to the cinema countless times and am rarely, if ever, bothered by the other members of the audience, as I am too busy watching the film. Maybe some of you should try doing that instead of looking around and nosing at what everyone else is doing.
