To want to never go to the cinema again?

rmrf · 15/01/2017 09:01

Every. Single. Time. I go to the cinema, there's at least one person who talks/texts/crunches through the film and generally does their best to ruin it for everyone. I usually feel too hesitant to say anything as they've already proven themselves lunatics who care not for others.

Last night it was LA LA Land. Absolutely brilliant, gorgeous film, ruined by some tosser who decided to loudly tap his foot throughout every musical number. He wasn't even in time.

I love watching films but AIBU to not spend any more money on going out to see them, because no one knows how to behave politely? We have Netflix, Google and Amazon video I suppose...

Really? You're up for letting disablist posts stand then, are you?
Hmm

My first post was actually to coffee, as she had asked why people with SN would eat at the cinema.

My ds eats because he likes eating popcorn at the cinema, same as 'normal' people was my point.

He makes no more noise eating popcorn than anyone else. BUT if he did he would be totally unaware of it was my next point.

LadyMelbourne · 16/01/2017 11:25

Nathan. Yes actually.

A person with a disability lives with it 24/7

A minor inconvenience to another is temporary.

Therefore that is reasonable.

It would be unreasonable for the minor inconvenience to mean the person is prevented from engaging in society.

Nathan, Lady M suggests you look up compassion in the dictionary.

NathanBarleyrocks · 16/01/2017 11:30

LadyM I would never take advice from someone that refers to themself in the 3rd person.

LadyMelbourne · 16/01/2017 11:31

Lady M is mystified as to why anyone would object to a reporting of a post.

Lady M is under the impression that all participants have free will and will make decisions for themselves about action they would like to

skyyequake · 16/01/2017 11:33

Ok let's try a new angle here with two options.

Option 1: the people with SNs have to accommodate the people who want silence. Meaning they have to cease any and all tics and coping strategies which others dictate to be "annoying". This, of course, is impossible. Meaning that in order to accommodate the "no breathing" crew the people with SNs cannot go to the cinema. Meaning that able bodied people are now dictating when and where disabled people can go based on the fact that they are disabled. That's discrimination and is, in fact, illegal.

Option 2: you wind your uptight neck in and watch a movie with a SNs person in the same room and try not to have your blood boil at every single reminder that other people exist and the world doesn't revolve around you.

LadyMelbourne · 16/01/2017 11:34

Lady M would never take advice from someone who discriminates against a person with a disability by implying they should not attend the cinema in case they may in some way cause minor inconvenience to others.

Why, the very thought of it!

coffeetasteslikeshit · 16/01/2017 11:34

Thanks everyone, that makes sense!

user1483945709 · 16/01/2017 11:35

And I would never take parenting advice from someone who clearly has no idea about SN.

mogloveseggs · 16/01/2017 11:35

Nathan you expect silence from people? I expect tolerance from people and you have single handedly proved that we cannot expect others to adhere to our own expectations.

Bravo Skyy, bravo!

LadyMelbourne · 16/01/2017 11:40

Nathan it is about what is reasonable.

If you do not in fact have a disability, then you are most blessed and have far more choices than others.

If a person has less choice through no fault of their own and are therefore disadvantaged, it is reasonable that adjustments are made.

If this causes resentment to the non disabled party then that is most regrettable for that person.

skyyequake · 16/01/2017 11:42

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what discrimination means. Not being able to go to the cinema because you have a disability or SNs and are therefore told your very existence is a nuisance to other "normal" people is very different from choosing to go because you can't help but whine that other people are daring to exist in the same space as you.

My god the amount of "me, me, me" in this thread is astounding.

LadyMelbourne · 16/01/2017 11:43

Lady M is nodding Skyy.

A lot of "I am more important, poor me"

NathanBarleyrocks · 16/01/2017 11:48

Nathan is shaking her head.

skyyequake · 16/01/2017 11:50

Skyye hopes Nathan's brain doesn't fall out of their ear.

LadyMelbourne · 16/01/2017 11:50

😀

NathanBarleyrocks · 16/01/2017 11:52

Nathan's sides have split.

LadyMelbourne · 16/01/2017 11:55

Lady M dost feel that's Nathan has received excellent informative education here and can see Nathan is struggling to comprehend it which is a most dreadful shame. The world could be such a beautiful place.

user1483945709 · 16/01/2017 12:00

Steady on with the side splitting, one might end up with a disability

toyd · 16/01/2017 12:03

I don't understand why cinemas don't cater for people like Nathan, there's enough of them for it to be financially viable.

Quiet nights once a week, no food, drink, phones, chat or coughing.

Would this offend anyone?

NathanBarleyrocks · 16/01/2017 12:10

Quiet nights once a week, no food, drink, phones, chat or coughing

Erm....this is how cinema's are supposed to be?

toyd · 16/01/2017 12:14

Yes, but Nathan, we live in the real world. Would you go to the cinema if "quiet nights" existed?
