neighbour using my drive when I'm out.

I came home early this morning just after 11am as i have had a chest infection since before Xmas and was struggling at work.
When I got home there were two cars on my drive, one park almost touching my front window and the other one at an angle beside it.
This is the only way to get two cars on the driveway so whoever it was parking there must know the driveway well and how to get two cars on it.
Outside on the road is permit parking and no parking between 10 and 12am.
This is to stop commuters and shoppers parking as we are five minutes from a huge indoor shopping centre.
I had to park behind them blocking them in and blocking the pavement also.
I left a note on my car for the traffic warden
Please knock on door as I have to obstruct the pavement due to two illegally parked cars on my drive.
half an hour later my next door neighbour in his 70's who we NEVER see knocks on my door.
Totally unapologetic and says one car belongs to his wife's carer as she cant park on the road due to restrictions and the other is a neighbour from up the road who uses our driveway when we are at work as her driveway is not big enough.
Even though I was fuming he still just didnt seen to think it was a problem even saying.
Well when your at work your not using it and at least it makes it look like some one is home.
I told him to get them moved straight away.
The carer came round looking really sheepish and asked would I mind if she parked during the restrictions between 10 and 12 as she has been given a ticket in the past. I said fine if no one is in but why cant my neighbour move his car off his drive to enable his wife's carers to park. He cant afford £40 a year to pay for a permit for his carers?
The other car nearly touching my front window is still there so I have put a not on it.
Caroline, I have reported your car to the police as an abandoned vehicle. Since then Nicholas has told me he gave you permission to park here. Nicholas has no business or authority to use our driveway. It would have been polite and neighbourly to at least have asked permission. If your car is parked on my driveway again I will be reporting you to the police.
Tomorrow if I am feeling better I am off the B&Q to buy a chain and paddlock so they cant use my drive!

DJBaggySmalls · 09/01/2017 16:55

My neighbours cock lodger invites all his mates to use our driveway. He's a cunt.

TudorHouse · 09/01/2017 16:56

Cheeky beggars!

And who gives permission onbehalf of their neighbors?!

HappyFlappy · 09/01/2017 16:58

What a bliddy cheek!

I would have gone off it at Nicholas (and Caroline - but you had Nicholas in your clutches . . . Grin).

To just decide that it is ok to use your drive without asking if it's okay is really rude.

Blockher in.

You might want to check on your house insurance if you would be covered if you've given someone else permission to park on your driveway that you are covered for any accidents car or personal. For example it's icy and someone slips getting out of their car and then they try and blame you, if you've given them permission but they aren't declared on yiur insurance you might be liable.

AQuietMind · 09/01/2017 16:59

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES GOOGLE PENGUIN BOLLARDS!

This with bells on!

SquinkiesRule · 09/01/2017 17:01

Crazy. I'm waiting to find out what Caroline has to say when she comes for her car.

NerrSnerr · 09/01/2017 17:01

I'd block Caroline in too. I wonder if she sits by her window watching you leave in the morning ready to move her car? We have a neighbour who has done this in the past. It's mad.

Kahlua4me · 09/01/2017 17:02

You could offer to let her use your driveway for a fee....

ToadsforJustice · 09/01/2017 17:03

Don't let the carer park on your drive. This could set up all sorts of issues. What happens when another carer comes along? Do they get permission too? Chain up your drive all day, every day when you are not in. Cheeky fuckers !

SauvignonBlanche · 09/01/2017 17:04

I do hope you've blocked Caroline in?

JakeBallardswife · 09/01/2017 17:08

What an absoloute cheek.

You were ultra polite given the circumstances. Hopefully Caroline is still blocked in and comes round super sheepish and lovely.

LizB62A · 09/01/2017 17:12

Bloody cheek ! We've got residents parking here and this would really piss me off. If my neighbours asked to use my drive I'd probably say yes (depending on the neighbour of course Wink) but it's unbelievably rude of them to park there without asking.

I wouldn't blame the carer - I expect your neighbour told her it would be fine....

peanutbutterandbanana · 09/01/2017 17:13

Wow, this is cheeky beyond words! There is a business that makes money loaning out people's driveways. It's called JustPark and people rent out their driveways for the day from anything between £5-£10 per day, so they are in effect taking something of value from you by parking there for free without your permission. I would not let the neighbour's carer use the driveway either. It is her job to sort out her parking, not yours. Get a chain and make sure your driveway is secure each morning. I would be livid if I came home to that. Bloody cheek! And get better soon.

cookiefiend · 09/01/2017 17:14

I would make sure I was out (or pretending to be) when the doorbell goes. Cheeky fucker.

birdladyfromhomealone · 09/01/2017 17:15

My DH is home now and blocking Caroline in!!!

KnittingOnEmpty · 09/01/2017 17:16

Blimey! I can't believe the audacity of the pair - Nicholas thinking it's ok to 'give permission' to another neighbour to park on your drive and that person doing so - and you've never met her!! When she turns up have an invoice ready for your driveway rental. I feel sorry for the carer in this situation. Knobby Nicholas should move his car so she can park on his drive.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 09/01/2017 17:18

Both neighbours do this on my dad's drive, despite him politely asking them not to lots of time. He just finds their cars on his drive or blocking him in. And they get annoyed if asked to move. We just can't fathom this kind of behaviour.

cartersgate · 09/01/2017 17:18

I would be furious if this was me. what an absolute cheek!

Monkeyinshoes · 09/01/2017 17:19

Cheeky buggers. What next, a picnic in your back garden? A sit on your sofa to watch TV? After all, you're not using it whilst you're at work.

Glad you've blocked her in. Get that chain up asap and keep it locked when you're not home.

Lorelei76 · 09/01/2017 17:20

the really stupid thing about this is they could have asked you - my parents have neighbours who do this and the lady whose drive is used actually likes it because it looks like someone is in.

so why on earth didn't they ask? And what did they think they would do when you were off sick/on leave/working at home?

I hope you recover from your chest infection soon.
