neighbour using my drive when I'm out.

I came home early this morning just after 11am as i have had a chest infection since before Xmas and was struggling at work.
When I got home there were two cars on my drive, one park almost touching my front window and the other one at an angle beside it.
This is the only way to get two cars on the driveway so whoever it was parking there must know the driveway well and how to get two cars on it.
Outside on the road is permit parking and no parking between 10 and 12am.
This is to stop commuters and shoppers parking as we are five minutes from a huge indoor shopping centre.
I had to park behind them blocking them in and blocking the pavement also.
I left a note on my car for the traffic warden
Please knock on door as I have to obstruct the pavement due to two illegally parked cars on my drive.
half an hour later my next door neighbour in his 70's who we NEVER see knocks on my door.
Totally unapologetic and says one car belongs to his wife's carer as she cant park on the road due to restrictions and the other is a neighbour from up the road who uses our driveway when we are at work as her driveway is not big enough.
Even though I was fuming he still just didnt seen to think it was a problem even saying.
Well when your at work your not using it and at least it makes it look like some one is home.
I told him to get them moved straight away.
The carer came round looking really sheepish and asked would I mind if she parked during the restrictions between 10 and 12 as she has been given a ticket in the past. I said fine if no one is in but why cant my neighbour move his car off his drive to enable his wife's carers to park. He cant afford £40 a year to pay for a permit for his carers?
The other car nearly touching my front window is still there so I have put a not on it.
Caroline, I have reported your car to the police as an abandoned vehicle. Since then Nicholas has told me he gave you permission to park here. Nicholas has no business or authority to use our driveway. It would have been polite and neighbourly to at least have asked permission. If your car is parked on my driveway again I will be reporting you to the police.
Tomorrow if I am feeling better I am off the B&Q to buy a chain and paddlock so they cant use my drive!

I'd put those retractable bollards up. What cheek

PoisonousSmurf · 09/01/2017 18:02

Chain and padlock a great idea. Also a sign saying that unauthorised vehicles will be covered in flour and water and egged!

diddl · 09/01/2017 18:03

I'd be tempted to let the carer use it-but there must be loads of carers who visit people without a drive, with double yellows outside the house...

What do they do?

expatinscotland · 09/01/2017 18:04

Chain and padlock all the way. Nicholas is just as much a fucker as Caroline. No to all of them, including the carer because they didn't have the decency to fucking ask.

BabychamSocialist · 09/01/2017 18:04

This is even better than The Archers.

LucklessMonster · 09/01/2017 18:06

I wouldn't let the carer park there. What if you come home early or s/he changes their hours and you can't get on your drive when you want to? Not worth the fuss.

Rachel0Greep · 09/01/2017 18:07

I'm just kidding about a diagram OP. Smile
Hope you feel better soon. I would be getting a chain, and no, I wouldn't want the carer parking there.

GlitteryFluff · 09/01/2017 18:07

Cheeky fuckers.

Patriciathestripper1 · 09/01/2017 18:07

I wouldn't have given permission to anyone because that now makes you liable if they have an accident on your drive or property.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 09/01/2017 18:07

Leave an additional note on Caroline's car stating that NIcholas has given you permission to host your family reunion barbeque in her garden in mid-March. You are giving her the courtesy of early notice and not to worry about bathrooms as you'll be renting portaloos to put on her driveway for the event.

What. A. Shower.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/01/2017 18:07

place marking ready for a night of checking up Blush

MadMags · 09/01/2017 18:08

I am going to tell Nicholas tomorrow that I want £5 a day for his carer? Shall I?

Yes! Tell him that he's given you a great idea and you will be renting out space on the drive. But since you're so neighbourly, you're giving him first refusal.

However, it'll be pay by the week and in advance.

Charge Caroline £20 a day if she doesn't cause a scene that we can all enjoy.

Megatherium · 09/01/2017 18:08

Sounds as if Nicholas has warned Caroline that you are officially Not Happy and she's too scared to move her car in case she meets you. Silly woman.

I would never contemplate parking on someone else's property in a million years. What on earth leads these people to think it's OK?

LagunaBubbles · 09/01/2017 18:08

And I would be wondering how long this has been going on for!

ThedementedPenguin · 09/01/2017 18:11

Placemarking... me? Never?

I do love a parking thread! Can't wait to read what Caroline says. Hopefully she won't leave us too long waiting.

SauvignonBlanche · 09/01/2017 18:12

I can't believe Caroline has the brass neck to use your drive but hasn't got the bottle to face you now she's been caught.

Keep her car held hostage - cheeky bitch!

fishfacedcow · 09/01/2017 18:12

I'd chain the car in so it couldnt get out!

Chickenagain · 09/01/2017 18:13

Maybe Caroline has gone on holiday for a couple of weeks and parked it there so you could keep an eye on it.

Qwertie · 09/01/2017 18:13

Has Caroline moved the car, OP?

ElsieMc · 09/01/2017 18:14

I look like the pic of Caroline upthread but look angrier and have a horrible orange cardi on. But I am not parked on your drive.

I live by a church and sometimes people I vaguely know come to my house and park there saying there is not enough room on the road as though my home is in fact the overflow car park.

8misskitty8 · 09/01/2017 18:19

Both of them are cheeky. 'Nicholas ' should get a permit himself so the carer can park on the road or he can park on the road himself.
As others have said if the carer slips on your drive you could be liable.

If Caroline is parked that close to your window, what would happen if she left the hand brake off or put her foot on the accelerator ? She could end up through your window.

None of them should get to use your drive. Get chain tomorrow.
When Caroline eventually comes for her car give her what for. Although i would have probably still reported her car on your drive. She has probably been doing it for months. Cheeky mare.

Chippednailvarnishing · 09/01/2017 18:19

I was imagining Caroline looked like this...

Glitterywillows · 09/01/2017 18:19

this would give me the rage. I'm cross reading it. get some retractable bollards.

DesolateWaist · 09/01/2017 18:22

Waiting for Caroline here.
I have work to do tonight and everything.

crazywriter · 09/01/2017 18:22

Cheeky sods. I used to park on my neighbours drive when the house was being sold. It was the mum's who was in a care home and the adult son was selling it. He came to me with the idea and as soon as he said it was sold the car moved out no problem. He was grateful it looked like someone lived there overnight. I'd just got a new car that had had the wing mirrors smashed my an idiot driver so was thankful to avoid that happening again for about 6 months.

Would have never done it without permission.

Is Caroline still there? Have you blocked her in?
