To say no to courier.

Amazon courier just asked to use the loo. I was alone in the house with a baby. I said no and immediately dropped a note to Amazon to say I wasn't impressed that it made me feel uncomfortable.

I feel a bit bad now...remind me that I did the right thing please?!

DP works for Amazon - your complaint will probably cost yours his job

pregnantat50 · 08/01/2017 17:20

Amazon denied the allegations and said that it expected delivery drivers from independent companies that it uses to be paid £12 per hour “before bonuses, incentives and fuel reimbursements”.

An undercover BBC reporter took on a job as a driver with AHC Services, one of the many agencies that suppliers drivers to Amazon Logistics.

During his two week stint as a driver in Bristol he claimed that he worked more than the legal limit of 11 hours per day

Colleagues told him that they had to “defecate in bags” and “urinate in bottles” because they didn’t have enough time for toilet breaks.

pregnantat50 · 08/01/2017 17:20

This is awful, poor Amazon driver

gamerchick · 08/01/2017 17:20

Heh I do know. I should know, I hear what goes on in the back end often enough.

He's going to get into trouble for no reason. Christ when wanting to take a piss is seen as unreasonable to the point of sending a complaint, its time to give up man. We're going to the dogs.

Say no by all means but no need to take it further.

Floggingmolly · 08/01/2017 17:21

You now hope Amazon have "disregarded" your email? If you thought that was likely; what in Hell's name did you send it for?
The guy making you feel uncomfortable due to his size is a complete red herring; all you had to do was refuse to let him in - and you did just that.
Reporting him was appalling.

pregnantat50 · 08/01/2017 17:21

I mean the way Amazon treat them, not the op refusing to let him use the loo, but it makes it clear why they asked, poor man.

Chocoholicmonster · 08/01/2017 17:21

wasn't even a real courier, he could of been a serial killer .. He delivered a parcel to the OP. Do you think he might be a random man dressed in high vis delivering duff boxes just to enter the homes of women?? For God sake. Fair enough if he didn't deliver there & randomly knocked on. Most people don't even think the OP is unreasonable for saying no. But she's unreasonable for complaining. The driver didn't respond abusively.

Hopefully he found a toilet & won't be sacked & amazon complaints department will have a good giggle Monday morning about the petty complain they received Sunday afternoon.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 08/01/2017 17:22

'Im surprised at everyone saying you shouldn't have complained. He could be a nice safe courier. He could be a chancer/worse that just happens to work as a courier too. Asking to use a female customers toilet when it really isn't necessary (shop loos, bushes, garage door as pp says above) is a red flag. Any courier should be able to work that out. Having a job doesn't make someone a good person and I'm surprised by how many people just blindly assume he must have been someone just caught out simply because he actually had a parcel with him'

what Putsomepeasonit said, the courier should know that it's not a reasonable thing to do.

If he loses his job then it is Amazon who are unreasonable, for treating their employees so badly

expatinscotland · 08/01/2017 17:22

I wouldn't have let him in. But I wouldn't have gone and complained.

anannoyinglylongusername · 08/01/2017 17:22

Surely the answer to Amazon couriers having to poo in bags is for Amazon to improve their working conditions..not for them to rely on using the toilets in strangers homes??

I've asked them to disregard my email now but if conditons are really that bad doesn't highlighting how these conditions are impacting customers make sense?

If conditions are really so awful then I'm disgusted

Poor guy. As a hcp who does home visits i wait till the cleanest house with my nicest patients to ask. Id allow if i had toilet at front door area but not if not.

dollydaydream114 · 08/01/2017 17:24

I can't agree that it was ok for him to ask

I can't see that he put you in any sort of difficult position, though.

He just asked a question to which you had the option to say yes or no. You said no. It isn't his fault that saying no made you feel uncomfortable.

Generally speaking, simply answering someone's question with 'Sorry, but no, I'd rather you didn't' isn't a traumatic experience.

Floggingmolly · 08/01/2017 17:25

No, this doesn't "made sense" at all. He didn't impact on you in any way at all by asking you a simple question Hmm

BabychamSocialist · 08/01/2017 17:25

YANBU to say 'no' but he was NBU to ask. I'd have said yes, personally.

pregnantat50 · 08/01/2017 17:25

When I worked as a receptionist, I would often be asked by couriers (including Amazon) if they can use the loo, I always said yes as I would hate to be in their situation. I can understand why you said no, but I cant understand why you reported him. Would it have been better if you looked outside and saw him peeing in your roses? Any of us could be caught short and its nice to think others wouldnt view this as an imposition to ask to use their toilet.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 08/01/2017 17:25

when wanting to take a piss is seen as unreasonable

needing to urinate isnt the problem, the problem is asking a women to allow a complete stranger into her home to use the bathroom.

Any employer surely needs to allow for the fact that employees may need bathroom breaks and should not expect them to use the customer's facilities

anannoyinglylongusername · 08/01/2017 17:25

Floggingmolly have you rtft?

ALLthedinosaurs · 08/01/2017 17:26

I find this really weird. A few years ago there was a a thread similar where OP let the guy in and he spent about an hour in there doing god knows what massive poo obvs and everyone was telling her off and asking why she let him in! People were suggesting that he was setting up webcams and allsorts in there! Grin

Personally I wouldn't have let him in but I would have directed him to the sainsburys or retail park less than a mile down the road and I wouldn't have complained.

expatinscotland · 08/01/2017 17:26

'Surely the answer to Amazon couriers having to poo in bags is for Amazon to improve their working conditions..not for them to rely on using the toilets in strangers homes??

They are not Amazon employees! Amazon uses a subcontractor and the subcontractor picks up self-employed people. What planet are you living on that you don't know this?

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/01/2017 17:27

Of course I'm joking about the serial killer comment, I'm making a point using a very silly and extreme example that you shouldn't go letting random people into your house especially if nobody knows they are there (for instance a gas man with ID will be tracked by company who sent him out).

MitchellMummy · 08/01/2017 17:27

I wouldn't let someone in (was once asked by a Freecycler collecting something). But I wouldn't complain. At work (just two people) my colleague let a courier in to use the loo - it was left in a DISGUSTING state - so colleague regretted decision. I do feel bad for the way Amazon treat the staff so I have boycotted the company. I would certainly have let my driving instructor in to use the loo, or someone I know.

Floggingmolly · 08/01/2017 17:27

I have read the thread, op. Have a missed a vital part of the "impact" this traumatic experience had on you??

Aeroflotgirl · 08/01/2017 17:27

I woulden't complain, why would you do that! He asked a reasonable question, you said no! Some people might let him use the toilet, but you don't have to, and you are well within your rights to say no.

expatinscotland · 08/01/2017 17:28

You're not even a customer! The parcel was for your neighbour.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 08/01/2017 17:28

As a hcp who does home visits i wait till the cleanest house with my nicest patients to ask
rather different situation, these are people with whom you've built up some sort of relationship, they know and trust you
