To not shower every day

AngryGinger · 07/01/2017 11:18

To make it clear, I do have a wash every day but I don't see the need to actually shower or bathe every single morning. was talking to people at work about it, most of the women seemed to agree with me whilst the men thought it was weird that we didn't have a whose presence every single morning. Aibu to be washed but not showered every day?

You're very brave talking to people at work about personal hygiene.

there are some topics that are waaaaaay off limits -- frequency of showering being pretty near top of the taboo list! Blush

Salmotrutta · 07/01/2017 12:14

Daily Mail fodder this is.

Like the thread about how often you washed your clothes/towels/sheets etc. a few months back Hmm

EastMidsMummy · 07/01/2017 12:15

If you have a working shower, I can't imagine why you wouldn't use it at least once a day. Wakes you up, warms you up (or cools you down), cleans you quickly, cleans everywhere, cleans you after exercise... what's not to like?

EssentialHummus · 07/01/2017 12:17

I sometimes do this. I WFH and have the daily exertion of your average sloth at times, so I can't imagine that I'd be smelly after skipping one day.

Birdsgottafly · 07/01/2017 12:20

""Usually women who smell do not change their clothes enough.""

Or wash them on/under 30 and the clothes aren't fully clean. So combine that with washing with gel type stuff and not proper soap. They smell fairly quickly.

My boiler broke and I had to have washes, or sometimes boiled enough water for a shallow bath.

Getting a wash wasn't quicker and I'd miss the all over 'fresh feeling'.

sniffle12 · 07/01/2017 12:21

I'll always shower after exercise or if I've sweated during the day for any other reason (e.g. hot summer's day), but otherwise and especially in winter, it's every other day.

For me there are costs associated with the hot water and with washing the towels - showering every day would double that. That and I feel like I spend my life washing towels as it is!

maddiemookins16mum · 07/01/2017 12:23

I was unwell yesterday (Dr Google indicates vertigo, it was awful, I could barely stand and it felt like I was on a really bad ship in an awful storm). I couldn't face a shower or bath so had a quick wash instead.
I do shower or bath every day 98% of the time (a sink wash if home alone and having a couch day). I just think that showering/bathing daily is part of our daily routine though, like brushing teeth, dressing and brushing hair.

YorkiesGlasses · 07/01/2017 12:25

It goes by need for me. If I'm going out in public I'll shower, if I'm sitting at home for three days I probably won't. I don't need to wash as much in winter because I'm not sweating. In summer I might shower and change my top and underwear twice a day.

NameChanger22 · 07/01/2017 12:26

I have one every other day. It's more than enough.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/01/2017 12:26

It's not Unreasonable but I would think it is Unusual

Not been on public transport recently then?Grin

FurryLittleTwerp · 07/01/2017 12:28

I shower every morning, but don't wash my hair every day. By the time I've danced about trying to wash all the necessary areas in the sink, I could've had a shower anyway!

RebeccaCloud9 · 07/01/2017 12:36

I shower and wash my hair every morning. If I don't, I feel yucky and my hair looks rubbish, and I don't feel properly awake. But I would only be judgey about someone else not doing this if they looked or smelled grubby. Otherwise, it's just personal preference.

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 07/01/2017 12:39

I have an approx 20 min bath or shower and hair wash twice a week, face wash daily unless I'm not going out then I don't bother. I'd do it more if I had a partner.
The people saying about standing under the shower for a couple of minutes every day IMO are just going through the motions to be able to say I "shower daily", how is that cleaning you.

KeyserSophie · 07/01/2017 12:39

It's fine and tbh I don't know how people know how often people shower anyway.

i.e. "Someone was on the tube/ at work who smelt bad"

Well did you ask them when they showered? it might have been 2 weeks or that morning.

Some people sweat very little. Others sweat a lot. Things like menopause can also affect how often you need to shower.

ElspethFlashman · 07/01/2017 12:40

I also don't understand people who have 2 minute showers. It takes me that long to just find a clean towel in the airing cupboard!

I mean, to scrub everything in two minutes your hands must be a blur like some Marvel Superhero.

PotatoWaffleCob · 07/01/2017 12:42

I don't have one every day either. DH does but I have a wash every morning and a bath or shower every other night in the evening. It isn't ideal but it is what works at the moment. I'm not naturally sweaty or greasy so I can get away with it.

Olympiathequeen · 07/01/2017 12:42

I don't sweat very much and don't shower every day because my hair gets wet so I have to fanny about drying, straightening it etc. Also my skin gets dry and itchy so I end up taking more time putting creams on. I wash of course.

Cel982 · 07/01/2017 12:43

I don't shower every day either, OP. Mainly because my hair always gets wet, even with a shower cap, and it's long and thick and takes forever to dry. I'm always clean and have no concerns about my personal hygiene. Agree with whoever said the problem with smelly people is often unwashed clothes.

lljkk · 07/01/2017 12:43

OMG, YABU to ask. Just figure out for yourself what works for you (no I don't care if it's once a year or once a day).

frenchfancy · 07/01/2017 12:45

You must all have unlimited hot water. There are 5 of us in the house. Summer is not a problem as we have solar panels which heat the water, but at this time of year when we are relying on the back boiler it is a different question. I don't mind washing in tepid water but a shower needs to be hot. No way could all 5 of us shower every morning.

Olympiathequeen · 07/01/2017 12:47

I shower every day in the summer though

Natsku · 07/01/2017 12:53

I don't shower every day, too much hassle as the shower is in the basement and gives me electric shocks.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/01/2017 12:54

I just think about bottoms when I consider this question.

AndShesGone · 07/01/2017 12:54

I think if my shower gave me electric shocks I wouldn't shower at all ConfusedGrin

Get it fixed before you er..... die !

DaftJelly · 07/01/2017 12:55

When I worked full time I showered every morning. Now I'm a sahm it's more like every two to three days.
