My friend is allowing her 11 yr old daughter to get her hair dip dyed. AIBU to tell her she is way to young?

Yes. Nothing to do with you.

AndNowItsSeven · 06/01/2017 23:05

No not for dip dye, but only in the holidays.

TheSparrowhawk · 06/01/2017 23:05

Yes. And also weird.

GColdtimer · 06/01/2017 23:06

yep, bugger all to do with you.

JaniceBattersby · 06/01/2017 23:06

I used to dye my hair with sun-in and Wella Colour Hair Mousse (plum) at that age so anything got to be better than that.

Greenifer · 06/01/2017 23:06

YABVVVU.

kali110 · 06/01/2017 23:07

Yes yabu

FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers · 06/01/2017 23:07

Your friend has obviously looked into it and made her choice. Not your place to tell her your view unless asked. Even then it will probably cause a fallout if you say anything tbh. It doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things at all.

ChocoChou · 06/01/2017 23:08

YABU I guess but I would also (quietly) judge. Will it be allowed in her school? My sons school won't allow any hair colour combo that doesn't occur naturally... dip dying isn't natural!
It has the potential for a DM story "Put in isolation for hair colour!!"

LotisBlue · 06/01/2017 23:09

When I saw the title I thought bf stood for breastfed. In which case she probably would be too young Grin

However, seeing as it's your best friend's daughter, it's none of your business

Clankboing · 06/01/2017 23:09

Goodness I read bf as breastfed then! Now that would be extereme...

CharleyDavidson · 06/01/2017 23:09

I let my 11 yo have her hair dip dyed in the summer holidays. My reasoning was that the dye doesn't come into contact with her scalp or skin in any way for the chemicals to affect her and it was a subtle effect. She likes it.

MissVictoria · 06/01/2017 23:11

Why is it anything to do with you? You'd be undermining her authority as the parent to make decisions she feels are appropriate for her child. Dip dying is very safe, as nothing touches the scalp there's minimal chance of an allergic reaction. From a safety and health stand point there's no reason why it isn't ok for an 11 year old. If you wouldn't allow your own child to have it fair enough, but you have no call to voice your opinion on it to your friend.

Redglitter · 06/01/2017 23:12

My niece and most of her friends had their hair dip dyed at 11/12 now at the grand old age of 13 theyve outgrown it.

YABU to comment on it. Absolutely none of your business

Mrsmadevans · 06/01/2017 23:15

I wouldnt approve myself but it is up to her yabu

WellErrr · 06/01/2017 23:17

YABU.

Blinkybell · 06/01/2017 23:19

YABU. It's not really any of your business. Your friend obviously doesn't think her DD is too young

Both my DDs badgered me constantly for dip dyes when they were about the same age (the year they went from primary to secondary school

I let them do it in the summer holidays. It was only the ends of their hair, any damage could be cut off.

queenbeeee · 06/01/2017 23:20

I know it's got nothing to do with me. We was talking about it. She asked my opinion so I told her I wouldn't let my 11yr old child get her hair dyed, although my DD is only 7 atm.We are like sisters. We would never fall out. She knows I put this op on here. She is sitting here with me lol.We were just wondering out of curiosity what other people's views were on this. My children are all little so I may have a different opinion on this by the time she is 11.Grin

I wouldn't say anything but I wouldn't let my daughter do it.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/01/2017 23:22

I was 9 when I first dyed my hair with a temporary dye. DD has been going on about having her hair dyed blonde. I havent decided when I'm gonna let her though. She has a much better natural hair colour than mine.

Kpo58 · 06/01/2017 23:24

Breastfeeding an 11 year old? Is that not a bigger issue than hair dye?
Also misread the bf as breastfeed

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/01/2017 23:27

Last summer and the summer before I dip dyed the three eldest girls hair for them. The youngest was 10 the first summer!

I was ok with it as it wasnt in contact with her skin and was cut out before she went back to school.. Cant see the problem tbh.

We are like sisters. We would never fall out
This always makes me laugh when people say it. If you would never fall out then you are not like sisters! My sister is my best friend and part of that is being able to fall out and then make up again afterwards surely?!

HalfaFishFingerAndTwoPeas · 06/01/2017 23:28

Why do you care enough to make a thread about it? You sound way too invested.

alltheothernamesareinuse · 06/01/2017 23:28

Ha ha just dyed ends of my 6yo hair purple. Looks beautiful. She needs a cu so it's very temporary. So what!

alltheothernamesareinuse · 06/01/2017 23:29

Oops - cut
