I know iabu so it's just a rant really.
It's great that people decide to get fit but I'm struggling to get into classes that I've been going to for over a year and its mobbed sane as last January.
I know it will all die down again by February. The gym booking system crashed today because there was so many people trying to access it!
Good luck to anyone starting a new e revise plan, I hope you manage to stick to it Halo

On the upside they flood money into the gym allowing it to operate at a less busy level the rest of the year.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 20:17

True, it's always busy anyway but it's mental this week! Think of all the wasted gym memberships that people take out and dont use, they must be making a fortune.

I'm terribly sorry to have received a pay rise at the end of last year which enables me to now be able to pay for a gym membership. If only I had known I was supposed to join in March. I do triathlons, by the way, so I won't be taking up spaces in your bodybalance or Zumba classes. Biscuit

RJnomore1 · 03/01/2017 20:19

It hasn't hit my gym yet, today is still a public holiday in Scotland, but I know exactly what you mean!

Violetcharlotte · 03/01/2017 20:21

I have to say I hate all the cliquey regulars that are condescending and welcoming to 'newbies'. One of the reasons I hate going to the gym.

JustHereForThePooStories · 03/01/2017 20:22

Meh, we didn't complain in December when all you lot took over our pubs.

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 03/01/2017 20:22

My DC's have wanted to rejoin our old gym for the past year. I've just had a leap in pay so will be joining this month. Doesn't matter to me if it's Jan or September. I can now afford it

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 03/01/2017 20:22

YABU. I'm one of them. I've had my gym membership for a few months but new year is giving me the impetus to use it. It's no more your gym than it is mine.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 20:23

Yuck hate body balance and zumba, I've got no rhythm Grin spinning must be the most popular by far! A waiting list of 30 today! Never seen anything like it and when I went there was 5 bikes free as people didn't turn up Angry

Be annoyed at gyms accepting more customers they can actually accommodate.

dementedma · 03/01/2017 20:24

Grinat just
I don't do gyms. Just go outside if it's for running and walking. It's free.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 20:25

I know iabu, I do think there must be loads wasted in memberships though. I don't speak to anyone at the gym, I go to work out so I'm not a fan of the cliques either.

I'd like to join but I'm waiting until February, cba with a busy January gym.

RJnomore1 · 03/01/2017 20:29

It bothers me when I can't get to use equipment because there's a mass of people who won't stick with it using it wrongly.

Likewise people who get on the treadmill to walk.

SaintEyning · 03/01/2017 20:33

Why spin when you can cycle up a real hill?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 03/01/2017 20:35

I remember being approached by an older gentle man who very kindly told me that if i had any questions to just as him as i was new

I wouldnt mind but i had been going 3 times a week for two years by then!!!

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 20:36

I use spinning as extra training for my cycling and its really helped me improve. I've just ordered my own spin bike tonight. Problem solved Grin

Members at our gym who have booked but don't turn up have a £4.00 fine or all bookings blocked. Works a treat.

LockedOutOfMN · 03/01/2017 20:39

Agree with you, OP. But I just dream of February when it's back to nice, quiet gym.

I don't do many classes and the newbies aren't usually into free weights (my thing) so if I pick my times carefully it's not too awful. All the cardio machines have queues this week, though.

LockedOutOfMN · 03/01/2017 20:40

SleepingBooty I think it's usually cheaper in Feb. as well.

MistressMolecules · 03/01/2017 20:41

I am going to be one of those January gym goers, but not until March Grin. Really need to sort myself out but can't bear (bare? Confused ) the thought of joining when it is so busy and our local one has just had a major refurb (which looks pretty amazing but daunting all at the same time) so expecting it to be even busier.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 20:41

I think they will be bringing something similar in at mine. Always oversubscribed then spaces when you go. They are trying to get e eryone to check in at the desk now before the classes and sending letters to no-shows.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 20:42

Good for you mistressmolecules, don't be daunted by anything, I always just ask and the staff are really good at demonstrating and helping with any goals. I got a fitbit for Xmas so I've been trying it out too Grin

On the plus side, our gym makes the pool a bit warmer until all the newbies have joined, then it goes back to being a bit on the cool side.
