I know iabu so it's just a rant really.
It's great that people decide to get fit but I'm struggling to get into classes that I've been going to for over a year and its mobbed sane as last January.
I know it will all die down again by February. The gym booking system crashed today because there was so many people trying to access it!
Good luck to anyone starting a new e revise plan, I hope you manage to stick to it Halo

They are right up there with the people who only come to Mass at Christmas and Easter and SIT IN MY PEW! I get a crick in my neck if I have to sit in the wrong part of the church or stand in the wrong spot in my gym class. Down with that sort of thing.

YetAnotherUser · 03/01/2017 21:39

All the pub regulars have to put up with the usually sober people all through December, and the Gym bunnies have to put up with the turkeys in January...

Deal with it, yabu.

dingdongthewitchishere · 03/01/2017 21:40

gyms work on a business plan that depends on a certain percentage of members never using the gym. They couldn't actually operate if everyone did. So they rely on the January keen people who then drop out.

that exactly.

If people want - or need - to walk on a treadmill, who cares. The ones that make me cringe are the (mainly female) turning up caked in make up, with the latest designer gear, smug, looking down at people around them, slim but absolutely useless and no muscle definition at all. Fine when they stay at the cafe, but annoying when they take the place of someone who is actually there to exercise.

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 03/01/2017 21:44

What's with 'our gym'? It's not your gym. If it was you could bar any newbies. In fact you could have it to yourself. It's the newbies' gym as well if they're paying for it.

Gwenhwyfar · 03/01/2017 21:45

"no muscle definition at all"

Oh my god, people who have no muscle definition! Must be awful for you to have to look at.

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2017 21:45

Is spinning what exercise bikes used to be in the 90s?

AnaG1ypta · 03/01/2017 21:46

Love our gym but it was a bit busier tonight than December.

Still plenty of equipment - just not three in a line available.

Therealloislane · 03/01/2017 21:51

I usually go at 6am. Before Christmas there was a boot camp & we couldn't get moving. There weren't enough dumbbells or weights benches.

I dread to think what it'll be like now it's January...

But we were all newbies once!

Tartle · 03/01/2017 21:53

"why spin when you can cycle up a real hill?"

Because I don't own a bike and have nowhere to store one?

I can feel the ops pain. I could hardly get near anything tonight. I just wish we had enough lockers for everyone and then I wouldn't mind.

dingdongthewitchishere · 03/01/2017 22:00

Oh my god, people who have no muscle definition! Must be awful for you to have to look at.

read my post before commenting. People showing off but not actually doing anything. I salute anyone who exercise to the best of their ability. Wearing make up and showing off your butt doesn't make you an athlete.

megletthesecond · 03/01/2017 22:01

I'm not annoyed by the newbies. I'm permanently annoyed by the lads who chat around machines or seem to be taking part in a 'who can have the most stupidly big no neck muscles' competition. No cardio or flexibility. Just size.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 22:02

How can anyone wear make up to the gym, I can't imagine what I'd look like at the end!

OP posts:
QueenMortificado · 03/01/2017 22:04

I quite like working out in January, there is such a buzz of change that it's more motivating

I feel bad for anyone who pays so much money to work out just in January and then gets so demotivated they never come back again

dingdongthewitchishere · 03/01/2017 22:05

How can anyone wear make up to the gym

the ones who are only there to show off their new kit Grin
or the muppet who had a big presentation at work and forgot to take off her make-up when she rushed to the gym. It's NOT a good look

QueenMortificado · 03/01/2017 22:06

Christ, some of these comments! Why does it matter what someone's motivations to be at the gym over someone else?

No one has a better right to use equipment over anyone else. Not people that walk, not those that you think are wasting time, not people with no muscle tone.

DownWithThatSort0fThing · 03/01/2017 22:10

No one has a right to be at the gym more than others

It would be like someone saying 'I have more right to drive to work than someone does to take their kids to school, as I use the road 52 weeks a year'

Or some such shit

The world does not revolve around you OP

Count yourself lucky you can afford the gym and suck up the extremely privileged lifestyle you enjoy (whinging about)

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 03/01/2017 22:10

What's wrong with walking on the treadmill?!

When I used to go to the gym, it was the lads that didn't know how to use the weight machines that drove me mad or that put millions of weights on, lifted and then let the drop with a huge CLANG and frightened the life out of me. Also the fucker that left the treadmill on after using so when I stood on I went flying off and practically did a somersault.

dingdongthewitchishere · 03/01/2017 22:12

No one has a better right to use equipment over anyone else.

the point was about people who are there to USE the equipment, as opposed to the ones who only jump on them to take selfies and prevent the rest of us to exercise. That's annoying. You can take selfies in the bar.

YourFace · 03/01/2017 22:12

Yep. Couldn't even get a locker tonight.

I don't have an issue with newbies, it's the overselling of memberships. My gym can barely cope with it's existing membership numbers all year round. Classes always full. I think it will implode if any more join.

It's a council/private run one. I tried lots of other gyms over the Christmas break but none had anywhere near as good classes as mine offers. Just fear I'll never get on one in January.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 22:13

Wow! I started the thread as a light hearted rant. I've not been rude or said anything as a personal attack. Bit ott!

OP posts:
QueenMortificado · 03/01/2017 22:13

Nope. You still don't have more right to use the equipment than they do. Everyone is paying the same (give or take).

Not up to anyone to pass judgement on what someone else is doing while they're paying money to be there.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2017 22:17

I didn't pass judgement in what anyone was doing, other posters have. I am just shocked at the size of the waiting list for a class I've been going to for 3 years.

OP posts:
DownWithThatSort0fThing · 03/01/2017 22:20

OP, in post one, you say you had been going for over a year, now this has tripled to 3 years?

dingdongthewitchishere · 03/01/2017 22:20

You still don't have more right to use the equipment than they do.

they don't USE the equipment, they block it. Grin

lljkk · 03/01/2017 22:22

Come on guys, OP has been quite light hearted. It's kind of overwhelming after a quiet Xmas week. (peeved smiley MN won't let me have).

Swimming was nutty yesterday.,.. 12 people in the fast lane, only 4 in the slow lane.
