Just got back from a trip to extended family and was HORRIFIED to find that they sit on their bottoms on the sofa, often with only one or two layers of material between skin and chair. PIL don't even wipe it down with anti bac wipes in between different people plonking their backsides down.

WIBU to stand for the entire visit of two weeks? My knees hurt and my face aches from scowling.

Cheques are disgusting things which aren't wipe clean. Of course they should be cancelled.

So relieved Bakeoff. I've been hyperventilating.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 03/01/2017 21:08

This thread made me spit my cofffe out and now I have sown up my mouth and thrown my iPad into a boiling vat of zoflora

LauraMipsum · 03/01/2017 21:09

Thanks everyone, I'm glad some of you can see the horror I've had to endure over the supposedly festive season. I knew MN would understand.

Same repellent family members reuse Christmas decorations year on year. I use a new set every day just in case there's dirt caught in the tinsel.

They reuse Christmas decorations? Decorations that have been in a room with people? People who exhale?

I don't allow anyone to exhale in my home. I ask them to take a deep breath on the way in and hold onto it until their visit is over. It's common sense really. I'm not allowing other people's air particles to touch my surfaces.

allchattedout · 03/01/2017 21:12

I change my bedsheets every hour. Anything less is GROSS.

treaclesoda · 03/01/2017 21:16

I make our bed up like the Princess and the Pea with 21 mattresses at a time. It's a time saving measure, because then every couple of hours during the night we can just pull the top mattress off, toss it out the window and set fire to it, then quickly go back to sleep. It really doesn't take much time at all, and I'm inclined to think that anyone who says they don't have time for such basic hygiene measures is just making excuses.

MamaErmintrude · 03/01/2017 21:19

treacle tears literally pouring down my face.

Now I have to bleach my skin.

allchattedout · 03/01/2017 21:19

treaclesoda Grin

snapcrap · 03/01/2017 21:22

Grin Needed a lol, thanks treacle

Hassled · 03/01/2017 21:25

Did you know that there are people who work for DFS who just walk out of the shop at the end of the day, and get straight on a bus or a train, touching things as they go? They don't have any sort of disinfectant process as they leave work. Can you imagine - all day every day in contact with sofas on which randomers are sitting, and then just nothing, no fire, no bleach, no radiation treatment, no nothing. They saunter off without a care in the world. I just do not understand why the Daily Mail hasn't picked this up.

Mynestisfullofempty · 03/01/2017 21:25

treaclesoda you've made me cry Sad I feel so disgusting because I can't afford to do that. Blush

I'm going to have to namechange I'm so ashamed. Surely there must be at least one other person on here who is as poverty stricken as I am and can only afford a new mattress every night instead of every couple of hours.
Please?
Anyone?
Sad

DuffyMoon · 03/01/2017 21:27

Please stop...you are making me wee Blush

Boogers · 03/01/2017 21:28

Tinsel? How common!

Mynestisfullofempty · 03/01/2017 21:31

DuffyMoon please tell me why you would even think of referring to such an appalling process as micturition!

treaclesoda · 03/01/2017 21:34

A proper mumsnetters wees Zoflora, not urine. True story.

drinkingchanelno5 · 03/01/2017 21:35

My extended family visited me over Christmas and complained endlessly about having to swim through the moat filled with bleach that surrounds my house. I've just had a mardy text from SIL saying her children can no longer taste food after I asked them (politely I might add) to gargle with zoflora before using my cups. And BIL is still complaining that I expected them to sterilise their feet on a naked flame before walking on my cream carpet! What is wrong with people?! Next year I refuse to host!!!

treaclesoda · 03/01/2017 21:35

Although I've heard that workmen wee actual urine Shock

DuffyMoon · 03/01/2017 21:35

Sorry Sad I am burning my bottom as I write

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 03/01/2017 21:36

Oh fuck.

Must remember to shoo the dogs away from my bed.

Mynestisfullofempty · 03/01/2017 21:37

Hassled I'm shocked and to be frank, incredulous about your claim that DFS employees don't undergo a disinfection process at the end of their working day. Are you quite sure about that? I've always assumed they go through a Zoflora dip much the same as a sheep dip, including the brief submergence of their heads, every single working day. That has to happen, surely!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 03/01/2017 21:38

Maybe I can get away with buying a new mattress tomorrow?
and new dogs

LauraMipsum · 03/01/2017 21:38

Quite right too treacle

If you're time-rich-cash-poor mynest (and I refuse to believe anyone is short of both cash and time, that's just millennial self-indulgence) then you can bleach, dry and quilt carrier bags (double bleach if they may have held groceries) to form 21 mattress protectors instead.
