DP says I am.......I'm saying we can't bloody afford it, never mind £7 or so for a drink each on top.

AIBU in wanting to pull my old student trick of gift wrapping boxes of wine (( to sneak then in innocently ))then having my own wine on tap for the night ?? That way we'd only have to buy one drink.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact it's a close family member I'd be pulling a sickie. At least this way we can affordably drown our sorrows at all the money on travel and a hotel we've had to spend 😑😑😑

This thread has been a revelation, the whole gift bag idea and even more so removing the box/wrapping the wine bag! It could work in so many different settings... Music festivals/the races where actually glass is the main concern slightly above their revenue! Thankyou OP GrinWine

what I said was that REAL friends don't.

I bet the friends who had to spend a fortune on hen night(s), possibly plural apparently, an outfit, transport, accommodation, gift etc are not that impressed that they are expected to buy their own drink or ask for tap water when no cost have been spared for the event. What kind of friend are you if you charge them for tea/coffee/ or a glass of something.

I do love that the OP was offended to be called tacky. I have seen links for the bags in the thread, but these are pure class: Grin

You seem to be binary thinking.
There is a choice between charging for ALL drinks and a completely free bar.

Most weddings / events I've been to have had SOME free drinks plus once they've gone, you can go to the bar if you feel the need to drink a lot.

But that wine would be warm! V v warm. Warmer than the bottles of cheap white wine that were standing around in my college-apartment.

They'd be body temperature!??!

I'm surprisingly offended by this. How dare anyone treat wine that way!! Grumble,

I suspect people using these "Party help" are not bothered by the temperature. Maybe they can strap an ice pack first? Some more research must be done on the subject...

Maybe 😂😂

I think they should stick to beer. Or maybe mixed drinks.

That's just no way to drink wine. And I don't even drink very often (a few times a year)... but still. I think I'd be far more offended by anyone doing this than calling our wedding tacky.

Although, the bags seem like a surprisingly good solution for... idk. Maybe the cinema or something? I would have loved one of these when I was a teen... Wink

Trainspoting my example was a wedding I actually attended. It was great fun and in the budget of the hosts. You could easily do the same thing in the UK for the same or less. No need to spend mega bucks.
