To think I got 'spiked'

I did what you're not supposed to do.

I picked up an abandoned glass of fizz, and I drank it as I'm flat broke after Christmas, had a Diet Coke at the pub but wanted a fizz and couldn't afford to buy my own Xmas Blush it was just sitting there at the bar. Already had a few glasses of wine at home with a meal then popped into our local to see some friends at about 11:30. DP had to carry me home, (his poor back!) I can't remember a thing and apparently was pretty much unconscious and when I did wake up a bit, totally incoherent- I couldn't form any words. He said he had to move all my limbs like a puppet to get me on my side in bed then didn't want to leave me alone so just played on iPad most of the night.

I feel appalling now. Shaky and sick and a racing heart and I've drank loads of water but can't seem to wee Xmas Blush

It was the local bit-up-it's-Arse-gastro-pub and I know 'mine-sweeping' a drink is a bit student and scummy and I shouldn't have done it, but I'm starting to think it must have been laced with something and whoever it was bought for thought better of it and left it alone. Total memory blackout from about half an hour after I drank it, and before that I was ever so slightly tipsy but holding a conversation and dancing. Only wanted to stick my head in to see in the New Year.

I'm so stupid aren't I Xmas Blush Xmas Blush

Manhowdy No - it's common practice to do toxicology screens on patients who come in with certain symptoms - racey hearts, seizures, severe dehydration being some of them.

MountainPeaks · 01/01/2017 15:44

Manhowdy That should have said in West and Central London it's common practice.

idontlikealdi · 01/01/2017 15:46

Op hasn't weed because she's probably dehydrated and needs to drink a ton of water. 111 and everything else is ridiculous.

PerspicaciaTick · 01/01/2017 15:49

After more than 12 hours and over 4 pints of water, I doubt very much she so dehydrated she can't wee.

DorindaJ · 01/01/2017 15:52

Lots of assumptions being made here.

OP please seek medical help asap, not being able to pee is actually a medical emergency.

There is no way of knowing whether the drink was spiked by the owner of the drink or others. If indeed it was spiked at all.

A lesson has been learned by OP. Buy your own drinks or don't drink. And yes, strange though it may seem, people spike their own drinks...

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/01/2017 15:55

In defence of Birds, many many young people take drugs recreationally. My eldest two are at different universities and both have lots of friends who take drugs a couple of nights a week; MDMA and coke to go out and weed and ket at the end of the night.

These are nice, high achieving kids, holding down firsts and 2i s and getting good internships. Their parents are largely oblivious.

Piehunter · 01/01/2017 15:56

I have a history of acute urinary retention and you need to go and get that checked out, you may well need a catheter inserted to empty your bladder. I can have almost 2 litres in there and not feel desperate to pee, it can do long term damage if left. After 4 pints of water and more than 12 hours of not urinating it's quite important you get it checked, I've always been given priority in a and e with urine retention so it's quite serious!

Soubriquet · 01/01/2017 15:59

JustWoman

No I won't contact the police about it now.

It was 10 years ago, my word against his, no evidence and I have two children so don't want to do the whole court thing.

Thank you though

Soubriquet · 01/01/2017 16:00

I would be seeking help OP

4 pints of water and still no real wee?

It wouldn't hurt you to see an out of hours doctor

BoneyBackJefferson · 01/01/2017 16:02

SoupDragon

What has the OP actually been a victim of?

MadHattersWineParty · 01/01/2017 16:03

It's ok I did wee an half an hour ago. Took a while but got there in the end Blush full bladder but no urge.

Just feeling sheepish and crap now.

Lesson learned.

At least you ended the evening safely. Take some comfort from the fact someone didn't do it to you deliberately - which is a bit creepy in my opinion. If it makes you feel better, at least you prevented someone more vulnerable from drinking it.
I had a drink deliberately spiked once by a work colleague and it is a horrible experience. Glad you are ok.

MadHattersWineParty · 01/01/2017 16:07

To the poster wondering about the first half of the drink- I don't think anyone had had anything out of it before I got to it- at least not more than a sip- was an abandoned full glass.

Soubriquet · 01/01/2017 16:08

Don't blame yourself too much OP

You feel crap as it is and you don't need guilt and embarrassment on top of it

You made a mistake, you're paying the price now.

Get plenty of rest and try and forget about it

angeldelightedme · 01/01/2017 16:10

I think you have an infection in your kidneys/uti and been dehydrated. and that has made you get drunk quicker and feel absolutely awful today.

DorindaJ · 01/01/2017 16:12

Glad you are feeling better. Please take care of yourself. (hug) Best wishes. x

LockedOutOfMN · 01/01/2017 16:17

BumDNC I'm so sorry that happened to you. What a sad and shocking story.

Hope OP feels better and am glad she had her husband to look after her. Maybe the drink was "spiked" intentionally by its original owner, then drinks got mixed up. Or there was a group sharing a bottle of Champagne, which they spiked deliberately, then miscounted the number of glasses needed hence the one left on the bar. Whatever happens, it does sound like OP was spiked. Hope there is no lasting effect.

GabsAlot · 01/01/2017 16:17

op u should at least ring 111 evven if its just for advice

i think the concern with birds post is she seemed pretty proud her aughter takes drugs and put them in drinks-noones denying this doesnt happen all the time

Sandybum · 01/01/2017 16:19

bumDNC what happened to you is awful. Flowers

KathArtic · 01/01/2017 16:20

Mad I would like to thank you for having the courage to post, we all know it was a stupid thing to do but I have been educated by this thread.

I've lived a sheltered life but have teen DDs who will be partying sooner than I'd like - I've never heard of mine sweeping (of the drink kind) and am sickened that some people will purport to 'get a round in' & just collect other people's half drunk glasses.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

iminshock · 01/01/2017 16:21

Hope you make a full recovery very soon.

I cannot believe some people are arguing over the semantics of "your" drink being spiked Hmm

MrsCharlieD · 01/01/2017 16:25

I'm sorry you've been through this. Having had a very experimental time at uni I can confirm not being able to wee is a common side effect of mdma and ecstasy. It goes away generally after a few hours. Hope you're feeling better now. I recommend sugary drinks and fast food to help you through the comedown.

insancerre · 01/01/2017 16:26

Iminshock
It's not semantics
There is no evidence the ops drink was spiked, or anyone's drink
The op was poorly and has assumed she was drugged
Bit of a non drama really
No need to ring the bar or the police

abbsisspartacus · 01/01/2017 16:30

i think i have worked out the reason for the low statistics with regards drink spiking? this fucking thread everyone's attitude its just a hangover etc etc this is how it gets under the radar because no one believes it has happened

MountainPeaks · 01/01/2017 16:32

Abbsis Yep. When I had mine spiked this is exactly why it didn't get reported. The GP believed me, but A and E was just a horrific, horrific experience. I was half drugged still and had a social worker shouting out me "We know you are lying".
