To think I got 'spiked'

MadHattersWineParty · 01/01/2017 11:17

I did what you're not supposed to do.

I picked up an abandoned glass of fizz, and I drank it as I'm flat broke after Christmas, had a Diet Coke at the pub but wanted a fizz and couldn't afford to buy my own Xmas Blush it was just sitting there at the bar. Already had a few glasses of wine at home with a meal then popped into our local to see some friends at about 11:30. DP had to carry me home, (his poor back!) I can't remember a thing and apparently was pretty much unconscious and when I did wake up a bit, totally incoherent- I couldn't form any words. He said he had to move all my limbs like a puppet to get me on my side in bed then didn't want to leave me alone so just played on iPad most of the night.

I feel appalling now. Shaky and sick and a racing heart and I've drank loads of water but can't seem to wee Xmas Blush

It was the local bit-up-it's-Arse-gastro-pub and I know 'mine-sweeping' a drink is a bit student and scummy and I shouldn't have done it, but I'm starting to think it must have been laced with something and whoever it was bought for thought better of it and left it alone. Total memory blackout from about half an hour after I drank it, and before that I was ever so slightly tipsy but holding a conversation and dancing. Only wanted to stick my head in to see in the New Year.

I'm so stupid aren't I Xmas Blush Xmas Blush

abbs she hadn't had a blood test to determine anything so it's armchair detective work from random strangers online.

Isn't that more the case?

CalorieCreditEqualsCake · 01/01/2017 16:35

Eh? Pints and pints of water and you don't feel like you need a wee.

Sounds odd to me. And not necessarily medically so.

CalorieCreditEqualsCake · 01/01/2017 16:35

Point being - you'd have pissed yourself by now.

MountainPeaks · 01/01/2017 16:36

"Calorie" - eh?

It's pretty odd medically to drink pins and pints of water and struggle to pee. Usually a sign something is up.

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 01/01/2017 16:40

Yy bobbetybob
Call the bar. I run a bar we've luckily only ever had one customer contact us about spiking (was her date, friend of a friend we saw him clearly faffing with her drink on cctv, reported to police) they should have CCTV covering the bar and may be able to see if someone tampered with the drink/who had the drink first.

Scaredycat3000 · 01/01/2017 16:41

Well I've never been so interested to know if a total stranger on the internet had had a wee! Glad to hear that worry has passed OP. Curl yourself up, watch some telly and try and get some comfort food inside you. I hope you feel better in the morning. Don't beat your self up to much about the minesweeping, we all make make mistakes that we learn from. I used to get horrifically drunk randomly 2/3 times a year, though teetotal the rest of the year Confused into my 30's. I was so ashamed and apologetic to OH every time, then did it again and again. clearly not that ashamed Minesweeping would be low risk, and you were very unlucky, compared to how drunk I'd get myself.

lougle · 01/01/2017 16:43

Calorie that's simply not true. If the OP was very dehydrated she would just retain the fluid and rehydrate the tissues in her body. If her kidneys failed, she would simply accumulate the fluids into her tissues, then eventually her heart and her lungs. If she was retaining urine, her bladder would just continue to fill until it (eventually) ruptured.

There is nothing odd about the OP's description at all. It's just the cause that is open for discussion.

CalorieCreditEqualsCake · 01/01/2017 16:45

Oh medically yes. Of course that is odd.

That isn't the same kind of 'odd' that I find this OPs situation though.... I can't be clearer than that or my post will get zapped.

A bladder can only take so much before it relieves itself whether the person wants to or not.

And to not 'feel' like you need to wee AND for it to be blocked so it couldn't release itself would cause excrutiating amounts of pain.

And yet here she is happily typing away....

user1471525998 · 01/01/2017 16:47

The not being able to pee is a side affect of mdma drink orange juice the vitamin c affects the effect of the drug

MountainPeaks · 01/01/2017 16:47

Ah, Calorie can't explain what she is trying to say because it's against MN guidelines. She's troll hunting.

Demonstrating what a pleasant individual she is.

Not.

Scaredycat3000 · 01/01/2017 16:50

But THE OP HAS HAD A WEE, so of course she's sat typing happily.

youarenotkiddingme · 01/01/2017 16:51

My friend was spiked.

She was fine and we were drinking water at the point it hepoened although she had been tipsy before.

She suddenly became agitated, violent, had a pain in her neck. Paramedics came as she then was barely conscious. They wouldn't believe she'd been spiked. I am teetotal and asked if they'd believe it if it was me? She'd been drinking water and not touched alcohol for over an hour.
They called her parents and sent her home. They refused to test her. Angry

She hasn't been to a nightclub since that day as she is too traumatised.

MadHattersWineParty · 01/01/2017 16:53

I feel a bit too rough to be 'typing happily' but I have indeed relieved my bladder now, Calorie. In the toilet and everything! Yes I suspect it would be rather painful if I still hadn't managed to go.

Bluntness100 · 01/01/2017 16:53

Ok I haven't read the thread whole thread which is unusual for me, but I have no desire to, because who the hell goes to a bar and steals other people's drinks or drinks someone else's left overs. If you stole a spiked drink, then it's your fault, I suggest in future you drink only what you buy,

TatterdemalionAspie · 01/01/2017 17:02

For future reference, drinking that much fluid and being unable to urinate will result in a distended bladder and can cause permanent bladder damage or even rupture. It's very serious and you should have sought medical attention after 12 hours without being able to pee. There are a few drugs that will cause that issue, including ecstasy and ketamine.

To all the posters piling in to Birds about her daughter taking E, assuming that the daughter is over 18, what the fuck do you expect her to do - tie her to her bed and not let her go out? Confused

I'd rather know what my DD was doing/taking, than not have her tell me because of the outrage and opprobrium that seems to be required by the posters here.

amusedbush · 01/01/2017 17:02

My mum was spiked on holiday several years ago and it was bloody awful to witness. I was 20, brother was 14 and we were having some food while parents had one drink at the bar. DM went from stone cold sober to a gibbering wreck who had to be dragged back to the hotel room in the course of one drink.

She wasn't in control of herself at all and I had to take my brother away for the evening while she sobered up.

I'll never understand the logic behind spiking someone "for a laugh".

TatterdemalionAspie · 01/01/2017 17:04

It's why they won't let you go home from hospital post-op until you've passed urine; the anaesthetics have that effect, and the nurses need to catheterise you if you're unable to pee. The bladder is not an organ you want to damage!

LivingInMidnight · 01/01/2017 17:25

I had my drink spiked when I was 19. Went from slightly tipsy to unconscious in very little time (minutes) and the club had to call an ambulance etc. I was so scared when I woke up that I discharged myself from hospital before getting my blood test results, which still bothers me now. I was on sertraline at the time, I think that made it worse tbh. Felt shit for days. It's very scary when it happens to you. I knew who did it, but I don't know what it was. I'm glad I passed out where I did because the staff saw everything so I know nothing bad happened.

KeepItToYourselfPlease · 01/01/2017 18:57

Hope you're ok OP.

I am sitting here open mouthed at some of the comments on this thread.

Very clearly, OP knows what she did was stupid, she has stated that many many times.
She felt horrendous and has obviously 'learned her lesson', there is absolutely no need to keep banging her over the head with it. Some posters seem to be unable to read her responses properly and prefer to keep giving her a good telling off. Ridiculous.

What the OP needed was constructive advice and a bit of sympathy. We've all done silly things of varying degrees at some point in our lives surely? OPs tone was worrying to me, she sounded anxious and ashamed.
But hey, let's all pile on and make her feel even worse, eh?

Jesus.

Really do hope you're ok OP Flowers

Batfurger · 01/01/2017 19:03

Op can't know if it was spiked or if the person who actually bought it put something in it for their own enjoyment. That's the problem with minesweeping.
Op wasn't spiked. Just like she wouldn't have been drugged if she'd taken some tablets she'd found in the loo without knowing what they were.
Spot of personal responsibility due imo.

Dionysuss · 01/01/2017 19:08

I'm glad you've peed OP!

I had a drink spiked once, we had a bottle of wine given to us, it appeared already opened. After one glass my friend had collapsed onto a bed and I was fighting off a man in a bathroom. It kicks in scarily quickly.

KeepItToYourselfPlease · 01/01/2017 19:09

She's taken personal responsibility. Umpteen times. Whether or not the drink was meant for her it not is irrelevant. As is whether it contained drugs or not.

What actually matters is that (yes- through her own silliness) something frightening and upsetting happened to her.

What happened to kindness and cutting someone some slack??

SecretWitch · 01/01/2017 20:07

KeepItToYourselfPlease..I agree. I actually feel very sad for the Op. I would never pick up an abandoned drink but Christ knows I have made some poor decisions in my past.

I'm glad you are feeling better. Look after yourself, rest, eat and hopefully by tomorrow you will be fit as rain.

icelollycraving · 01/01/2017 20:28

I've had my drink spiked. My friend & I were in a club & got talking to two men & having a bit of a flirt and chat. I remember telling him I had a boyfriend & he said let's just have a dance. I drank some of my drink & felt absolutely off my face, my friend had gone from being by my side to about 100 feet away with his friend. I started feeling trippy & anxious, having a panic attack, heart racing. I managed to wave my friend to take me to the loo. The men had split us up & waited outside the loos for us. I wasn't unconscious but felt a very different type of drunk, I've never touched drugs in my life but my friend was used to taking ecstasy, coke etc. We managed to get away & in to a cab,the two men ran out of the club to see us leaving in a taxi. The next day I felt very wobbly in a way a hangover has never done. It didn't occur to report it. I was young & silly.
When a member of my team told me at work she thought she'd been spiked at the weekend. She'd come to in the loo at a club, her phone & bag gone & her clothing torn. I took her to the police station & a rape centre on my hr dept advice. The rape centre was closed, the police were not helpful. Very much of the opinion that she should have raised the issue at the club & she could have a crime number for her lost bag etc. I was quite pushy about it with them but they made it clear nothing could be proven as it wouldn't show in her system & to just be more careful in future. She was v much the boy who cried wolf & I don't think any of her colleagues believed her. I don't know if it was true but treated her as if was without question.
I suspect it happens a lot. People mix all kinds of shit in their own drinks too. The op minesweeping is behaviour that I find strange in an adult without a drink problem because they want some fizz. We can safely say she's unlikely to do it again.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 01/01/2017 20:35

What happened to kindness and cutting someone some slack??

I don't agree , she posted about a very poor decision which rebounded on her. Patting her on the back and saying ' there there never mind' would be terrible advice.
