To think I got 'spiked'

I did what you're not supposed to do.

I picked up an abandoned glass of fizz, and I drank it as I'm flat broke after Christmas, had a Diet Coke at the pub but wanted a fizz and couldn't afford to buy my own Xmas Blush it was just sitting there at the bar. Already had a few glasses of wine at home with a meal then popped into our local to see some friends at about 11:30. DP had to carry me home, (his poor back!) I can't remember a thing and apparently was pretty much unconscious and when I did wake up a bit, totally incoherent- I couldn't form any words. He said he had to move all my limbs like a puppet to get me on my side in bed then didn't want to leave me alone so just played on iPad most of the night.

I feel appalling now. Shaky and sick and a racing heart and I've drank loads of water but can't seem to wee Xmas Blush

It was the local bit-up-it's-Arse-gastro-pub and I know 'mine-sweeping' a drink is a bit student and scummy and I shouldn't have done it, but I'm starting to think it must have been laced with something and whoever it was bought for thought better of it and left it alone. Total memory blackout from about half an hour after I drank it, and before that I was ever so slightly tipsy but holding a conversation and dancing. Only wanted to stick my head in to see in the New Year.

I'm so stupid aren't I Xmas Blush Xmas Blush

So she was definitely spiked and we know what with? Sorry, missed that bit.

ILoveDolly · 02/01/2017 19:23

Well maybe it was abandoned because its original owner was suspicious about it. Please visit a doctor and inform the pub. You don't have to give full details of how you obtained the drink. Just say you might have picked up the wrong one. Hope you feel better

sleepachu · 02/01/2017 19:23

I wouldn't say orange juice helps much either. Bananas are ok. But time is the only healer.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 02/01/2017 19:29

Op, I don't know anyone who hasn't done something stupid at some point in their life so don't be too hard on yourself. Glad you're feeling better.

Hairyloon · 02/01/2017 19:40

How abandoned was the drink?
If it was half empty, then the one who abandoned it was likely spiked as badly as you were, and quite likely had the bloke who spiked it standing by to take her home...

JoyceDivision · 02/01/2017 19:43

Welsh... am I the idiot you refer to?

MadHattersWineParty · 02/01/2017 19:45

It was a full glass, looked completely untouched.

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 02/01/2017 19:47

Years ago I went to a cheap pub - weatherspoons and had 2 or 3 small glasses of wine then started feeling really drunk after went round my friend's and started behaving really weird and out of character, i.e. Very drunk, annoying and crazy and had to be taken home, I can't really remember and was told after. I wondered after whether there was something wrong with one of my drinks. Does that sound like my drink was spiked?

angeldelightedme · 02/01/2017 19:49

the drink looked as though it'd been served then left on the bar untouched
I thought it was a 'dead' glass on an empty table.Taking a full glass off the bar is stealing - how do you know the barman hadn't just poured it?

MadHattersWineParty · 02/01/2017 19:57

Because I watched it for about twenty minutes before I swooped in an drank it like the common petty thief I am Hmm

No one retuned to it, touched it, went near it, was waiting for payment for it.

OP posts:
ConvincingLiar · 02/01/2017 19:58

Because the OP watched it for a while before taking it, so it hadn't just been poured.

pomers · 02/01/2017 20:09

This probably doesn't help. Aren't drinks meant to have a blue tinge if they are spiked. Can you remember?

sleepachu · 02/01/2017 20:23

That sounds extremely like an urban myth, but even if it wasn't, it would depend what it was spiked with, and besides, clearly the OP didn't notice a 'blue tinge'.

pooh2 · 02/01/2017 20:51

Poor you Flowers I got my drink spiked once (I think!) Was in a dank nightclub with a no-drinks-on-dancefloor rule. My experience was very similar to yours: was totally like a puppet, I fell backwards and cracked my head, didn't even try and catch my fall. Didn't even care at the time, was like a dream. My boyfriend at the time was a complete arse about it so my friend had to look after me. She had seen me drunk many times but said I was acting completely differently this time. At one point when we got back I knocked over a boiling hot cup of tea someone had made and didn't feel any pain. V scary to think what could have happened.
Please do let the pub know what happened, you don't need to go into detail but they may be able to put up warning signs or something. Hope you feel better soon!!

WeMustGetOffTheMountain · 02/01/2017 21:28

Hope you're OK. I'd definitely inform the pub, just say your drink may have been mixed up with someone else's.

nanof7 · 02/01/2017 21:53

sorry to hear of your scary experience - I work in a sexual health clinic and I hear of this happening to women with horrible consequences (some of the girls are depressingly young as well); I have to really take of judgement hat (not helpful and would only serve to make hapless woman feel worst and more guilty than she feels already); surely it is part of our human experience - we have all done silly things in the past; we have all made mistakes - at least - most of us; only thing is to put it down to experience - thank goodness you had a trusted friend to help you home safely....

P00pchute · 02/01/2017 22:06

I know various people who have been spiked, not sure where the low statistics come from. In a few cases I know of, the person has been spiked by their own friends with lsd/ecstasy for a 'laugh.' My own mother noticed feeling odd after less than one glass of wine on holiday, and took off like a shot back to her hotel - only to collapse unconscious on the toilet floor.

My boyfriend who worked in a bar had to intervene after a lone female who had been joined by a group of men, became suddenly and extremely intoxicated. They were sitting in a snug, and he became suspicious so he kept passing by trying to see what was going on. She had rapidly gone from being tipsy, to being completely incapacitated, and the men had their fingers in her mouth and had unzipped her bottoms. He walked in to say he was phoning the police, and they legged it. When the police arrived they had to go through her phone because she couldn't tell them her own name.

She had been arguing with her boyfriend and left the pub she had been in by herself, and it all happened very quickly. It's scary to think what could have happened if no one had been suspicious enough to check up on them.

38cody · 02/01/2017 22:17

Maybe it was spiked and left for someone to steal take it whilst the spiders sat back and watched. Rough justice.

Armadillostoes · 02/01/2017 22:36

I am really shocked by some posters repeated comments about 'stealing' and comments like 'rough justice'. Nobody "deserves" to be poisoned by a stranger (especially one who was probably planning to commit a sexual assault). Also, whilst taking the drink was stupid, but it was not stealing; the OP had watched the bar for some time and was convinced that nobody wanted it.

The OP knew that she'd done something dodgy and had paid a high price for it. I hope that the posters who seem to be gloating and making nasty comments are always perfect. Most of us do stupid things sometimes and are grateful for a bit of compassion when we suffer as a result.

Joanna0685 · 02/01/2017 22:41

I admire your brutal honesty, happened to me once years ago I found a tablet in my drink at a posh nightclub, not in this country. I would guess you will be ok now, lucky you had someone to help you. The sick people that do things like that often stay to watch, so he/she would have seen what happened ie you needing help to get home. Not your fault hopefully no lasting damage.

BumDNC · 02/01/2017 22:42

Why do you thin people don't report things? You shouldn't have been there or done it etc etc, that's the shame that hits you and why it goes unreported.

Armadillostoes · 02/01/2017 22:48

Exactly BumDNC! The attitude displayed by some posters is actually incredibly damaging. Shaming something like the OP who is brave enough to disclose their experience is doing nobody any favours.

ferrarimum · 02/01/2017 22:52

Urinary retention is a life threatening emergency. If your bladder is still full and you cannot pee go to a&e. It happened to me 2 months ago and I thought I was dying. At a&e they dragged me straight through, no waiting and catheterised me, realising nearly 2 litres. Bladder still feels damaged now. Get it seen to OP!
Also I was spiked as a student and had very scary hallucinations and ended up being taken to a&e. Seems to be more common than you would think, from reading this thread.

BoneyBackJefferson · 02/01/2017 22:54

Armadillostoes

Also, whilst taking the drink was stupid, but it was not stealing; the OP had watched the bar for some time and was convinced that nobody wanted it.

I wonder if you could use the same principle for a car?
After all if its sat there for a length of time clearly nobody wants it.

BumDNC · 02/01/2017 23:11

If she stole a car on a sudden urge and someone had cut the brakes on it in a premeditated action, what's worse?

It doesn't fucking matter. It's not a matter of principal. You can't compare an abandoned glass of wine to a stolen car and ultimately she did something stupid but someone had done something far more sinister and premeditated. She already paid the price for it via mumsnet I don't think it's helpful to keep bashing her for it.

People take food out of those bins behind supermarkets don't they? Should they all be strung up?
