To think I got 'spiked'

I did what you're not supposed to do.

I picked up an abandoned glass of fizz, and I drank it as I'm flat broke after Christmas, had a Diet Coke at the pub but wanted a fizz and couldn't afford to buy my own Xmas Blush it was just sitting there at the bar. Already had a few glasses of wine at home with a meal then popped into our local to see some friends at about 11:30. DP had to carry me home, (his poor back!) I can't remember a thing and apparently was pretty much unconscious and when I did wake up a bit, totally incoherent- I couldn't form any words. He said he had to move all my limbs like a puppet to get me on my side in bed then didn't want to leave me alone so just played on iPad most of the night.

I feel appalling now. Shaky and sick and a racing heart and I've drank loads of water but can't seem to wee Xmas Blush

It was the local bit-up-it's-Arse-gastro-pub and I know 'mine-sweeping' a drink is a bit student and scummy and I shouldn't have done it, but I'm starting to think it must have been laced with something and whoever it was bought for thought better of it and left it alone. Total memory blackout from about half an hour after I drank it, and before that I was ever so slightly tipsy but holding a conversation and dancing. Only wanted to stick my head in to see in the New Year.

I'm so stupid aren't I Xmas Blush Xmas Blush

Eugh, sharing a strangers spit!! Couldn't really get past that, sorry! Shock

greathat · 02/01/2017 17:56

I teach teenagers, had to educate them about spiking. According to what Ive been top to teach them you should report it and request a blood test within 24 hours

MadHattersWineParty · 02/01/2017 17:57

Look, I know it sounds gross. It is gross! A poorly-judged moment of madness as I've got about £12 to get me through the week after food/travel/rent/other bills come out at the moment because my boss has cut my hours. So I felt a bit low that I couldn't just buy a drink. Yes it's still rank! However- the drink looked as though it'd been served then left on the bar untouched. I watched it for a while and no one came near it. So I wasn't sharing the spit of whoever bought it in the first place as far as I knew. Its still a really daft thing to do, I'm aware of that.

I agree I was spiked in my 20ies and I couldn't remember a thing it was only when the hospital contacted me to say I'd been sexually assaulted and I only remember having a cola

DottyS · 02/01/2017 18:02

I am not judging at all - everyone and I mean everyone has done something daft - not evil just daft. I do hope you are feeling better but I would pop along to the doctor's just to make sure everything is alright. Thinking of you Flowers and I am just so glad your DP looked after you so well

SooBee61 · 02/01/2017 18:07

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but can't wade through 11 pages! Sounds like:

Rohypnol users often describe its effects as “paralyzing.” The effects start twenty to thirty minutes after taking the drug, peak within two hours and may persist for eight or even twelve hours. A person can be so incapacitated (made unable to act) they collapse. They lie on the floor, eyes open, able to observe events but completely unable to move. Afterwards, memory is impaired and they cannot recall any of what happened.

The person experiences loss of muscle control, confusion, drowsiness and amnesia.

Thingamajiggy · 02/01/2017 18:08

Almost certainly spiked. Put your pride aside (or say you did it by accident) and tell the pub!! You might prevent it happening again. And go to the doc and request some tests.

Glad to hear you are feeling better OP. I'd cancel yesterday and start your New Year from today :)

angela999999 · 02/01/2017 18:15

Such a horrible experience for you MadHatter. I'm sure that even the judge-y people may have accidentally taken somebody's drink at some time so don't feel bad.

My daughter (in her 20's) thinks that she had her drink spiked once and felt really rough even though she'd only had a couple of drinks. She normally has a very strong head as she's a regular social drinker, and has no idea what happened or who spiked her drink. Fortunately she was in a pub where a lot of people knew her and was taken home by friends who knew something strange must have happened. It took her a couple of days to recover and was definitely not a hangover or the result of drinking too much. She has very little memory of that night at all.

Armadillostoes · 02/01/2017 18:15

3BusyBabies-what a horrible post! The OP made a mistake and paid a high price for it. Calling her a thief is just unkind.

In any case, leaving a drink unattended is also dangerous, for exactly this reason. It's a very good job that nobody did come back and reclaim that particular glass!

Deejoda · 02/01/2017 18:21

I hope you went and saw a Dr and are peeing again. Tough lesson learnt.

UnbornMortificadoAtChristmas · 02/01/2017 18:22

3busy I'm presuming your fucking perfect?

Mad I once got two headache tablets off a questionable "friend" they were not headache tablets. Everyone does daft stuff, the important thing is your ok.

callmeadoctor · 02/01/2017 18:33

Sorry, didn't wish to be mean x

38cody · 02/01/2017 18:37

Never heard of this minesweeping - how disgusting!

sleepachu · 02/01/2017 18:37

*Might be a good idea to report this.
I would say you left your drink on the side and then picked it up some time after and that's when you believe something was in it. *

Yeah, don't do that. Because that suggests that a stranger definitely maliciously spiked your drink. There are about a million variables too many for any of us to know that. You can't just misreport crime.

38cody · 02/01/2017 18:41

Well to be fair - it is theft isn't it! If you bought a glass of fizz and nipped to the loo or whatever and it was taken - that's theft.

WyfOfBathe · 02/01/2017 18:45

Calling her a thief is just unkind
I don't know, what would you call somebody who stole?

OP if you continue to not pee enough (even if you're peeing a bit), make an appointment with your GP/OOH as, like other people have said, it can be serious - either from drugs or if you have a UTI or other infection.

NicknameUsed · 02/01/2017 18:48

I've learned a lot from this thread. I have never heard of "minesweeping" drinks before. It would never have occurred to me to do this when I was younger due to being rather fastidious about sharing drinks etc, and it would never cross my mind now.

nattygk · 02/01/2017 18:56

I never let anyone buy me a drink if out with friends I'm very alert and responsive to the dangers of having a drink since it happened to me in my 20ies I'm now 35 and im still like this regardless whether I know the person or not

Gina098 · 02/01/2017 19:00

Ya u were definitely spiked drink plenty of orange it counteracts it u should start feeling OK by then if u don't wee in the next day or so u will have to go the doctor hope u feel better soon I know what it like I've been there before it not nice x

sleepachu · 02/01/2017 19:02

Ya u were definitely spiked drink plenty of orange it counteracts it

Hmm
Armadillostoes · 02/01/2017 19:08

Wyf-there is a very big difference between someone taking an item which they genuinely believe has been abandoned, and "stealing" as it is generally understood. I think that labelling someone a 'thief' for the former is being rather unkind.

I don't think that anyone is suggesting that what the OP did was in any way sensible or desirable. But she is very aware of her mistake and paid for it. Why kick somebody when they're down?

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 02/01/2017 19:11

I thought OP took an abandoned glass. Was it wise? No.
But it wasn't stealing.

UnbornMortificado · 02/01/2017 19:18

Sleep I have actually heard of orange juice being used to "come down" off a high. Don't know if there is any medical truth to it though.
