AIBU to be flabbergasted that DP had never heard of rickrolling?

I find it hard to believe that anyone who has spent any time on the internet in the past ten years has not come across the phenomenon - but I discovered last night that DP had no idea. He's in his 40s, a daily internet user (twitter etc) but has apparently never been rick-rolled.

Surely he must be the only one?

I'm 40 and use the internet a lot and have no idea what you're talking about.

OohhThatsMe · 29/12/2016 18:48

No idea here, either!

irregularegular · 29/12/2016 18:48

No idea what it is. 40s and internet user too.

HemanOrSheRa · 29/12/2016 18:48

Ha! DS thought the song was actually called 'Rick Rolling'. It took me a while to convince him otherwise.

OohhThatsMe · 29/12/2016 18:48

For those who can't be bothered googling:

"Rickrolling, alternatively rick-rolling, is a prank and an Internet meme involving an unexpected appearance of the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The meme is a type of bait and switch using a disguised hyperlink."

my DH got rickrolled a few years back and had absolutely no idea what was going on. How I laughed...Grin

Shakey15000 · 29/12/2016 18:49

Nope, not a clue. It proves he's not on his own Wink

blackteaplease · 29/12/2016 18:50

I just had to Google it. I did know what it was but didn't know it had a name.

TheMortificadosDragon · 29/12/2016 18:50

Nope, I've never been rickrolled

Ilovetorrentialrain · 29/12/2016 18:50

It was a craze many years ago. Maybe he's forgotten?

spidey66 · 29/12/2016 18:51

I'd heard something of the prank but didn't know it was called rickrolling.

Olympiathequeen · 29/12/2016 18:51

Haha. Even my old mum knows what rickrolling is! What rock has he been living under!

TheMortificadosDragon · 29/12/2016 18:51

bugger, MN is too bloody clever sometimes.

Crumbs1 · 29/12/2016 18:51

No idea what this means.

Freshprincess · 29/12/2016 18:53

Me neither.
Maybe I should venture outside of MN mo often?

BarbaraofSeville · 29/12/2016 18:53

I've no idea what it is, it's never happened to me and I'm not even sure I understand the explanation Confused. Is this perhaps a thing in your world only?

maras2 · 29/12/2016 18:53

Perhaps he doesn't give a shit

Redglitter · 29/12/2016 18:53

Never heard of it

EllaHen · 29/12/2016 18:53

This is the first I've heard of rick-rolling. I'm 40 and a daily internet user.

Friolero · 29/12/2016 18:54

Nope, never heard of it either.

EllaHen · 29/12/2016 18:55

If the video popped up, I wouldn't click on it so I'm not quite sure I understand why it happens, what its purpose is - very confusing.

tiej · 29/12/2016 18:57

Never heard of it and don't understand the explanation either.

Laiste · 29/12/2016 18:58

Nope. Never heard of it. Can't even muster up enough interest to care that i've never heard of it! Grin

FoofFighter · 29/12/2016 18:58

Nope didn't know what that meant, 40s also.
I do however know this one Grin
