AIBU to be flabbergasted that DP had never heard of rickrolling?

I find it hard to believe that anyone who has spent any time on the internet in the past ten years has not come across the phenomenon - but I discovered last night that DP had no idea. He's in his 40s, a daily internet user (twitter etc) but has apparently never been rick-rolled.

Surely he must be the only one?

Yeah I was surprised when my parents (aged 60) had never heard of it, I've seen it tens of times, but obviously many haven't. I'm surprised by this thread too, OP.

I can see it would be funny if it was well set up, or hidden in plain view, the viewer thinks "how could I not have guessed, ha ha, I was really gullible", but I don't understand why clicking on a link for Boden/ chocolate cake (to use the examples given) and getting a music video is funny?

HicDraconis how did you rickroll us? Were there song lyrics hidden in your post? Which lines? I'm afraid I don't understand

I've heard of it and fallen victim to it. It was a big thing a few years back. I live very close to his home town though so it was a big thing amongst locals here.
