To expect people to be dressed if they've invited people round

Just that really- got invited round for Xmas drinks at some friends at 4pm and they were in their pjs and stayed like that for a 2 hour visit - Aibu to feel uncomfortable with the extreme casual-ness of it all. Even my kids asked why they were in their pjs Confused

I have a friend that used host a boxing day party every year and was in PJs the whole time getting steaming from a box of wine -classy- but her house, her rules! still a great party Grin

amammabear · 28/12/2016 17:27

Tip be honest, I'd far prefer to wear nothing, at the very least on my top half, most of the time. I never wear pyjamas to sleep in at home, so if I've put them on, they're clean.

I had a shower this morning, then put on "normal" clothes because I was going out, and although I have guests later (friends for drinks nibblea and gamer-cards against humanity will be featuring), I may well shove my pyjamas on.

I hate the feeling of clothes irritating my skin, so my PJs are the lightest, loosest, softest clothes I have. Urgh... Societal norms suck...

If you are living in pjs and keeping them when you invite friends and family around: WHY? I don't get it!

amammabear · 28/12/2016 17:29

Clearly my ability to type has gone out of the window... "Drinks, nibbles and games- cards against humanity will be featuring" is what that sentence SHOULD say...

Lizzylou · 28/12/2016 17:30

Dingdong, I agree with you based on those examples!

KeptOnRaining · 28/12/2016 17:30

Inviting 'School Friends', that you don't know very well, around for drinks at 4pm surely involves the wearing of daytime clothes? Anything else is surely odd?

Who exactly is arguing against that specific issue?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 28/12/2016 17:30

Caring too much about other people's opinions is unhealthy, btw

Well that sort of goes both ways given the "spending all my time in pyjamas" bunch seem to care about lot what the "people who get dressed bunch" are saying.

And obviously caring about other people's opinions might just extend to your invited guests' feelings.

Still wondering why the pyjama bunch find it so difficult to find normal clothes which are comfortable- do you need any tips?

Mindtrope · 28/12/2016 17:33

I wouldn't like it either.

I shower and dress when I get up. We are a busy household and there is rarely a day when there is not an unexpected outing, trip to a shop or lift required by a family member.
I wear comfortable casual clothes during the day and I can be out of the door in 30 seconds, so prepared for any eventuality.

MaQueen · 28/12/2016 17:33

ILost slightly off topic, but years ago when hot tubs were first a thing, our new neighbours invited us round for drinks.

As the evening progressed they started introducing a rather 'fruity' topic of conversation, and an invitation was made to test drive their hot tub, ...being a polite guest I (hesitantly) agreed, whilst feeling perplexed by the dagger glares DH was giving me.

DH abruptly cut the evening short and marched me home, whilst curtly 'explaining' to me.

The next 3 years as neighbours were somewhat awkward...

QuandryQueen · 28/12/2016 17:34

Depends on the type of pj's. Thick plaid bottoms and a long sleeved t-shirt really is just comfy clothes that happen to be called pyjamas.

Dinky cotton shorts and a slogan scrappy vest and yanbu at all!!

1horatio · 28/12/2016 17:35

No? But I personally have to wear a suit for work. Which means that I wear one 5-7 days a week.

And when I'm home I want to feel comfortable.

I won't wear pyjamas to our New Year's Eve party. But I did wear them to our Christmas breakfast, for example...

NicknameUsed · 28/12/2016 17:39

"And when I'm home I want to feel comfortable."

So do I, so I wear jeggings and a T-shirt Grin

LizzieVereker · 28/12/2016 17:41

YANBU

Each to their own, but I think it's really slobby and rude.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 28/12/2016 17:42

Wearing PJs for a short time after you've got up in the morning is fine, as is putting them on a little while before going to bed.

Wearing PJs at 4pm for a social gathering? NO! NO! NO!

1horatio · 28/12/2016 17:43

That's basically what I'd call pyjamas (in winter). Flannel bottoms, a shirt and sometimes a nice cardigan.

In summer I obviously wouldn't be wearing my pyjamas. 😅

NancyJoan · 28/12/2016 17:44

Odd. And a bit grubby.

Toadinthehole · 28/12/2016 17:44

I would just like to comment that in the film Idiocracy everyone wears pyjamas all the time.

Pyjamas are for when you are ill or in bed. Anything else represents degeneration.

Sallystyle · 28/12/2016 17:46

I wore my PJs when my inlaws came round on Xmas Eve.

I had wicked period pains and was bloated. No one gave a shit. I explained that I was more comfortable in pjs at the time of the month.

I live in PJs when I'm at home. You will be unlikely to catch me in proper clothes if you come round ever. I wear 'lounge pants' and a T-shirt but sometimes I will have my fleece pjs on.

I do get dressed when I go out but the first thing I do is put on pjs.

1horatio · 28/12/2016 17:48

toad

In this case I'm a proud representative of degeneration 😉😉

Mindtrope · 28/12/2016 17:50

For the pyjama parade- why do you wear day clothes at all?

MaQueen · 28/12/2016 17:51

Oh God, what fresh Hell is this....wearing your PJs, whilst greeting your in-laws at the door with a frank description of your menstrual bloat???

[runs screaming from the thread...]

dailyshite · 28/12/2016 17:51

Leggings and t-shirt is worse than my pyjamas! Much more revealing and scruffy Grin

1horatio · 28/12/2016 17:54

Btw, as a representative of degeneration (somebody that wears pyjamas despite people coming over)...

leggins aren't meant to be worn with a shirt imo(unless you're exercising...).

Leggins may be worn with boots and a skirt, however.
