Seriously are people constantly looking out for a way to be offended Hmm first world problems!

QueenOfTheWhiteWalkers · 18/12/2016 01:34

So you're OK with women being raped, beaten and killed by their partners then, OP? You're OK with little girls having their genitals mutilated? You class these as first world problems? Okay good to know will make sure I avoid you and your weird ideas from now on.

Hannah4banana · 18/12/2016 01:35

Thanks but I'm a 35 year old woman.I disagree so I must be a man. Great!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 18/12/2016 01:36

OP you seem to be focussing on the 'smaller' issues that have lowest impact (but are still important to many) whilst conveniently ignoring relevant points about the more damaging issues.

In the U.K. -

1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lives
1 in 5 will be sexually assaulted
1 in 10 will be raped. The conviction rate for rape is currently about 2%.

Too fucking right I'm a feminist. When these stats get better I may be able to lol about the other tuff

Hannah4banana · 18/12/2016 01:37

Eh? where did I say I was ok with women being raped Hmm

Can you really not stretch your imagination to see the points made by any of the women calling themselves feminist?

Blue and pink cards for babies may not be offensive in themselves. I agree, they seem pretty harmless.

But if the baby then grows into a toddler and a child seeing boys t-shirts with stuff like 'hero' and girls t-shirts saying 'cute princess' or whatever.
Boys being told to be rave and not cry. Girls being told being pretty is the most important thing, not enoucraged in their studies.

We end up with grown women in low paid, insecure jobs. They are undoubtedly having worse quality of life than a man with a better paid, secure job.

Women in abusive relationships struggling to leave because they have no job, no money.

Can you really not see that it's all part of a pattern ??

NoMoreParades · 18/12/2016 01:38

No one said you were a man, you're just very very naive. Please do some reading. Yes women have the vote now

dovesong · 18/12/2016 01:38

I think that what a lot of people who don't understand feminism don't get, is that the pink/blue thing is representative of so much more than just a pink teddy bear or a blue birthday card or whatever. Once you GET IT, it's as though your mind's been cracked open and nothing will ever be simple again. I find myself wanting to shake my fists and shout about the patriarchy more than I could have ever predicted when I was 16 and denouncing feminists as desperate weirdos. (Stupid stupid teenage self!) I'm very glad that I have been enlightened.

HopefulHamster · 18/12/2016 01:38

When you said it was about the colour of baby cards and ignored all the serious issues...

stitchglitched · 18/12/2016 01:38

I still want to know why threads on rape, domestic violence and the murder of women are funny.

By the way, feminists gave you the right to vote. Feminists created the first women's refuges. They fought to make marital rape a crime- did you realise that until 1991 men could rape their wives with impunity and in many countries they still can?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 18/12/2016 01:39

Anyone see the irony when the OP says "I don't get why people don't like it when women get called girls"...then when being accused of being a 15yo boy she says "I'm not a man" Grin

stitchglitched · 18/12/2016 01:40

When you 'lolled' at the feminism threads, which include some pretty serious issues....

GiddyOnZackHunt · 18/12/2016 01:40

Talk to us about your pension.
Talk to us about your job.
Talk to us about what you like? Shoes? Handbags?
Are you pink and sparkly and pretty? Thin? Do you wear your face or make up? Do you feel more like a woman with shaved legs?
Do you fit nicely into the social construct of feminine or are you a woman?

Hannah4banana · 18/12/2016 01:42

I have to be honest and say my opinion hasn't really changed. If people genuinely think I would laugh at rape threads it's worse than I thought. I dont think my opinion will change so ill accept I am being unreasonable. Cheers "ladies" if that's ok? I don't know anymore.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 18/12/2016 01:43

Spot on dove, the coloured cards are a very small part of a wider issue of gender stereotyping, which inevitably is damaging for women because it sets low expectations and a low perception on them. In fact the baby cards simply signify that gender stereotyping starts from birth.

Pluto30 · 18/12/2016 01:44

YANBU.

They make me roll my eyes too.

Dons flame gear Also, the wage gap is a myth.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 18/12/2016 01:44

if people genuinely think I would laugh at rape threads it's worse than I thought

What's worse than you thought? You said you laughed at threads re feminism.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 18/12/2016 01:44

I do find it ironic that women who slag off feminism are the ones who are the happiest to reap the benefits from it.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 18/12/2016 01:45

did I say I was ok with women being raped
You do understand it was pesky feminism that fought against marriage being a blanket yes to having sex.
A major UKIP donor was on national media saying if a woman says yes to sex on a Thursday she can't say no on a Friday. In 2015.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 18/12/2016 01:45

Also, the wage gap is a myth.

Nope.

Try again.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 18/12/2016 01:46

Yep AVirgin they're also the ones who ignore or minimise the bigger issues...waiting for someone to tell me to try and be a woman in the Middle East next 🙄

Sheld0n · 18/12/2016 01:47

Google Scholar is maybe your best bet. Can't comment on the content of the feminism board here, but forums aren't always the most constructive way to learn.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 18/12/2016 01:50

What have the feminists ever done for us OP?

Hannah4banana · 18/12/2016 01:51

I'm not a troll or a dick. I honestly can't see why people would be caught up on the colour of a card. I'd be bloody happy to get one. If that makes me a dick then fair enough
