I've pretended to like Field of Dreams for at least 10 years.. It's utter nonsense! Brought it up today with a mate.. Haha she hates Withnail & I but has always maintained she was a fan!!! If you understand where we're coming from. What film to you secretly hate that everyone else apparently loves ???

Avatar was overly long, trite, uninspired and dull. Pocahontas did the same job quite nicely.

Star Wars bores me. I didn't mind the films per se (an ex made me sit through all of them back to back, I think 2 more have been released since then), but it's the obsession over them I don't get. They're soulless.

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 12/12/2016 12:44

There are loads of films I hate that everyone else seems to rave about. Lord of the rings (watched the first 2 - refused to put myself through the 3rd), any Bond film, Star Wars. The women at work looked at me like I was a 3 headed alien last week when I said I didn't like Bridget Jones (biggest pile of crap ever).

I may not have the best taste in films though... I spent a happy afternoon yesterday watching Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Blush

BazookaJoe90 · 12/12/2016 12:50

The Wizard of Oz is just a terrible film, the Lord of The Rings films are way too long (but I like Game of Thrones!), all the big Disney films like Mary Poppins, and The Godfather and Scarface. An honourable mention for a Clockwork Orange as well. I remember watching it on TV for the first time around 10 years ago, or whenever it was "unbanned" and I just wondered what all the hype was about. Lasted around an hour and then gave up. No wonder Stanley Kubrick banned it, it was fucking awful. I do like Grease though!

lilyb84 · 12/12/2016 12:59

Incidentally my DH loves Dirty Dancing.

He's also obsessed with Star Wars though so swings and roundabouts...

Another anti-vote for Bond, LOTR, Godfather etc. Also Grease - love it as a kid, now find it very cringey.

Mincepiesareshit · 12/12/2016 13:05

Star Wars. Dull, dull, dull, dull, dull.

zukiecat · 12/12/2016 14:28

I agree about Star Wars,

Never seen any of the films and I never want to, the whole idea just bores me to death

lilyb84 · 12/12/2016 15:39

Don't think you can write off a film without even seeing it...

But for those Star Wars haterz out there, check out these bad lip sync versions (Jack Black, Bill Hader and Maya Rudoph doing the lip syncing), they liven the series up massively Grin

Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

If nothing else, watch this. It's brilliant.

DisappointingBanana · 12/12/2016 16:50

I think once anything gets hyped up to "classic" status I automatically like it less! Nothing is that wonderful.
I do like Withnail and Elf, and loved Napoleon Dynamite, unlike some on here, but agree about:
Richard Curtis films (cringeworthy and unfunny)
Goonies
Wonderful life
Pretty Woman
Dirty Dancing
Star Wars (any of them)
James Bond
Titanic

Grosse Point Blank I remember as a borefest... John Cusack is so dull, uncharismatic and boring- looking as to be invisible.

FrostyLeaves · 12/12/2016 17:49

Any film where Meryl Streep "does" an accent .

Off the top of my head: Out of Africa and Sophie's Choice (I don't advise anyone to watch the latter anyway for other reasons.)

I hated Kramer versus Kramer too and she was in her own accent. Oh and thought she got in the way in The Deerhunter..

I like her on chat shows though!

The80sweregreat · 12/12/2016 19:12

Meryl is annoying in most films. Silkwood is just weird!

I dont get the adulation although i did like The devil wears prada oddly enough. She seemed to be enjoying herself in that film.

Tropezienne · 12/12/2016 19:24

Pulp Fiction. Sacrilege I know, but I think it's rubbish!

Tropezienne · 12/12/2016 19:42

cushioncovers You didn't actually expect 'Spice Girls The Movie' to be any good did you? Grin

I must add to my :

Shawshank Redemption. Overrated, overblown, sentimental and just dreary.
12 Years A Slave. Not crap, but not really as challenging as it should have been.
Cafe Society by Woody Allen, absolute hogwash.

limitedperiodonly · 12/12/2016 21:14

Pulp Fiction. Sacrilege I know, but I think it's rubbish!

I don't like any Tarantino films

marylennoxwasanaspie · 12/12/2016 21:28

Brokeback Mountain. Lovely camera work but dull dull dull. Desperately Seeking Susan. Just didn't get it. Any film at all where they mumble all the way through in arty actor style (I'm thinking of a pretentious pile of crap called The Object of Beauty, which I hope none of you have ever been subjected to). I have to know what they're actually saying FFS. (I've worn hearing aids since I was three so I can confirm that actorly mumbling is disablist as well as bloody irritating and unnecessary).

marylennoxwasanaspie · 12/12/2016 21:32

Oh, and I never intend to subject myself to the musical travesty that is the film version of Les Miserables. I'd prefer to see that performed by people who can sing, thanks.

FrostyLeaves · 12/12/2016 21:35

To be controversially positive, I did enjoy Russell Crowe's performance in Les Miserables.

Oliversmumsarmy · 13/12/2016 07:11

Was dragged to see my first Star Wars film. Had to say I quite enjoyed it but the ending was dreadful a complete anti climax. Came away thinking I hadn't missed much by not watching th he others. On the basis of the ending I will not be wasting my time watching any more

LittleCandle · 13/12/2016 07:40

Saving Private Ryan. I didn't care if they saved him at all. XH took me to see this as an anniversary treat. I'm really not into war films as a general rule, and this one just about finished me altogether. Even Tom Hanks couldn't save it.

I enjoyed the original 3 Star Wars films, but hated the first 2 of the next lot. Again, it was XH that dragged us along to the new films and I was very grateful that DD2 threw up during the second film and I got to take her home early. I was bored rigid.

I hate Elf, but then I loathe Will Farrell and I especially hate Jim Carey, so anything with him in it, I give a very wide berth to.

I do love Field of Dreams though. And Withnail.

hollyisalovelyname · 13/12/2016 07:47

Mama Mia.
Awful.

plastique · 13/12/2016 10:50

Must add all Woody Allen films, XB was obsessed and we watched all his films a lot

OP posts:
BattleaxeGalactica · 13/12/2016 10:59

Prometheus.

Loving the Alien films, I was gagging to see this. Still not over the disappointment Angry

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 13/12/2016 11:08

I fell asleep watching Lord of the Rings. My ds was disgusted Xmas Grin I'm shocked at some of the films on here. Goonies? Stand by Me? Classics! I'm with you all on Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Love Actually etc. Shite.

MrsJayy · 13/12/2016 11:14

Urgh LOTR is so dull litte fella goes for a walk The Hobbit another little fella goes for a walk

PavlovianLunge · 13/12/2016 11:14

It's a Wonderful Life
Mamma Mia
Mary Poppins
Goodfellas
Withnail & I - I can see why people love it, but it leaves me cold.

I also (possibly irrationally) hated just about everything about Finding Dory.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 13/12/2016 11:20

mrsjayy Grin Little fella goes for a walk!Grin
