I've pretended to like Field of Dreams for at least 10 years.. It's utter nonsense! Brought it up today with a mate.. Haha she hates Withnail & I but has always maintained she was a fan!!! If you understand where we're coming from. What film to you secretly hate that everyone else apparently loves ???

OP posts:
BattleaxeGalactica · 13/12/2016 18:55

How Eat Pray Love ever got published let alone made into a film is beyond me.

Vanilla Sky starts off promising then turns into weird dross.

Company Of Wolves is frigging awesome Grin

BattleaxeGalactica · 13/12/2016 18:58

One Day is a v. annoying film too but I can't remember why.

MrsJayy · 13/12/2016 19:55

Nooo truly madly deeply is a wonderful film HOW VERY DARE YOU Shock

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 13/12/2016 20:07

Vanilla Sky, oh god, how could I forget?

SHAITE.

Livingtothefull · 14/12/2016 14:05

Atonement was overrated & crap. I just don't get the appeal of Keira Knightley as an actress, she just doesn't have a sympathetic screen persona to me.

Tropezienne · 14/12/2016 19:47

Someone said Goodfellers ????

MrsJayy · 14/12/2016 20:16

Atonement does that have James McAvoy and Kiera Knightley in it? If it is the film i think it is was very disturbing hated it

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 14/12/2016 20:24

Tropezienne you must be mistaken

Goodfellas is the best film ever it's a well known fact

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 14/12/2016 20:38

I must be easily pleased I like most of the films people have mentioned.

Shocked at the hate for Dirty Dancing though. Great film.

Only things I dislike are

Apocalypse Now (tedious)
Any musical (not including Rocky Horror)
500 Days of Summer (good soundtrack but he was annoying)
Love Actually (no explaination needed for that one).

GriefLeavesItsMark · 14/12/2016 20:48

Truly Madly Deeply. I still have nightmares about the 'hopping scene'.

alltoomuchrightnow · 15/12/2016 01:50

ah yes the hopping scene. Put me off that film forever. Cringe.

alltoomuchrightnow · 15/12/2016 01:55

The Unbearable Lightness of Being..
which was actually..the Unbearable Pain of watching it.

SeaWitchly · 15/12/2016 07:28

My faith in humanity is restored every time I see a poster nominate 'Love Actually' as a film they loathe and detest.
It really is the biggest pile of badly scripted, badly acted, sentimentalised and exploitative crap.
Richard Curtis is not exactly known for cinematic classics but LA really takes the biscuit. I cringe for whoever blithely informs me that it is their Christmas favourite... how can you have two brain cells to rub together and not loathe and detest this pile of poo?

SeaWitchly · 15/12/2016 07:33

I also totally agree with PP about Keira Knightley. Truly the most overrated actress of the past decade. Cannot act her way out of a wet paper bag.
However from a time when it seemed that KK got every lead in every major film going it now appears to have gone quiet on that front... I am hoping that the film studios are finally waking up to what an unsympathetic, wooden, gurning actor she is and are instead offering parts to other, better female leads... or it may just be that KK has had a baby and once she is off maternity leave will be back to 'delight' us with her presence again...

badabing36 · 15/12/2016 07:34

Yes Mrsjayy that's it, and it's really crap, 2 endings-so irritating.

The whole film was 'look at all this awful stuff happening' and I struggled to care.

Anniegetyourgun · 15/12/2016 08:04

I can honestly say the length of Avatar was not a problem for me. This is because after round about 40 minutes of it (we were trying to give it a fair wind) the entire family unanimously voted to switch it off and none of us ever even tried to watch it again. When I read reviews of films on IMDB I know that anyone who adversely compares it to Avatar is an idiot and their views will automatically not be worth considering. Mind you I love most sci-fi, fantasy and superhero movies and don't think the LotR trilogy was one minute too long because it was so beautiful. I'd happily sit through 24 hours' worth just for the bit where the beacons light up over the mountains. That's art, that is.

"Each to his own" is basically the bottom line here. Stand up for what you believe in. Or if you want to keep the friendships, find a diplomatic way of stepping out of the discussion of something you loathe. "It wasn't really my kind of film" sort of replies, not "but it was a pile of shite" because that is rude to say to the face of someone who loves it. Fortunately we can say it here :)

MrsJayy · 15/12/2016 08:36

Ah right badabing Atonement was just grim viewing

MLGs · 15/12/2016 08:40

Amelie.

Can't stand that film. But I don't make a secret of it Grin

Also hate The Perfect Storm or anything else where everyone dies.

ShatnersWig · 15/12/2016 08:53

Field of Dreams? Love it.
Withnail & I? Hate it.
It's A Wonderful Life? Love it.
Rocky Horror Show? Hate it.
Eyes Wide Shut? Love it.
Lost in Translation? Hate it.
Company of Wolves? Love it.
Guardians of the Galaxy? Hate it.
Shawshank Redemption? Love it.
Elf? Hate it.

I'm saddened beyond belief that some survey or other has found that Love Actually is the nation's favourite Xmas film. I don't know who they must have asked. Richard Curtis and his immediate family, perhaps. Everyone I know wants to vomit over it, not watch it.

SeaWitchly · 15/12/2016 19:19

Hear hear Shatner!
Who on earth commissioned this survey and which mentally deficient people did they ask to nominate their Christmas favourite Hmm

busyboysmum · 15/12/2016 19:27

Love Withnail and I but we did have a cottage in Wales in the 70s and I did a lot of drugs as a student so I can relate to it a lot.

Hated Mama Mia and was taken by a friend who had already been and loved it and kept looking over at me with a look of joy shining in her eyes. Thought it was so truly awful.

DisappointingBanana · 16/12/2016 09:29

Shatner another here who agrees with that. I hate RC films; same bumbling man and irritatingly sassy woman in every single one.

BattleaxeGalactica · 16/12/2016 14:06

YYY to Amelie. Top flight shite. Even beats Mama Mia to the crown of shame and that's saying something.

CockacidalManiac · 16/12/2016 15:12

Love Withnail and I but we did have a cottage in Wales in the 70s and I did a lot of drugs as a student so I can relate to it a lot.

'We've come on holiday by mistake'

I love Amelie.

Tropezienne · 16/12/2016 16:33

I kid you not Enthusiasm. Someone up thread said Goodfellers! Each to their own and all, but c'mon that's going too far!!! Goodfellers is a classic. Scorceses's best IMO.

Withnail and I was not a great film, but it was quite funny. I think every English man I've ever met has liked it. I'm not usually very sensitive to these things, but I do remember thinking it was a little bit homophobic. Just me perhaps?

Amelie was absolute rubbish. I've never forgiven Audrey Tautou for that drivel. I remember a reviewer at the time who said: It was like being taken to a French Restaurant and force-fed every dessert on the menu.
