I've pretended to like Field of Dreams for at least 10 years.. It's utter nonsense! Brought it up today with a mate.. Haha she hates Withnail & I but has always maintained she was a fan!!! If you understand where we're coming from. What film to you secretly hate that everyone else apparently loves ???

Yes Rose was end to end a total cow.

What is a girl to do when she is engaged to a fabulously rich man whom she doesn't love, then falls for somebody else? She could tell her fiancé that she is sorry, it is not going to work out and she loves someone else and therefore she cannot in all honesty accept his expensive gifts (such as the diamond) and is giving them back.

Or she could do what she actually does; have sex with the other man behind her fiancé's back (he is rich after all so what do his feelings matter?) then hang on to that diamond even when ex-fiance claims on the insurance for it. That makes her a, er…thief.

And then in the middle of the night, sneaks onto the deck of the boat deployed on a mission to find that very diamond, and, with a mischievous grin on her face, chucks it in the sea. And we are supposed to admire her for that? I will stick to admiring the rl people who lost their lives in heroic circumstances, thanks. But each to their own.

dailyfailplagiarism · 12/12/2016 01:44

The Matrix. The English Patient and The Piano.
Can't stand any of them.
Also most Tom Cruise films.

MummyIsAFreeElf · 12/12/2016 03:13

The only movies I've pretended to enjoy where for the sake of my ds, such as frozen (worst Disney princess movie ever!) the secret life of pets (heavily pregnant and seriously uncomfortable praying it would hurry up and end!)
Any movie with adults or friends I've been open and honest
Airplane 1 & 2
Hot shots
Dirty Dancing
Grease
Mamma Mia was just torture, Pierce Brosnan looked constipated every time he "sang"
Matrix movies,
James Bond
Anything to do with Mr Bean is banned in my house
Anything with Nicholas Cage
Bill and Ted
Napoleon Dynamite
South Park
Elf!!!!! (And any other Will Farrell movie)
I hate them all!

I love the lord of the rings, I miss the days before dc that I would just sit and watch all 3 movies back to back for a full 12 hours (extended editions) but I can understand it not being everyone's cup of tea. Hated the hobbit movies once Orblando loom appeared (wasn't in the book wtf were they thinking)

FixItUpChappie · 12/12/2016 03:52

Forrest Gump - saccharine and cliche.

Thisjustinno · 12/12/2016 04:09

Mama fucking Mia. And I went to see that with my friend who is so camp he makes Alan Carr look like Bruce Willis - so we should have been the target audience but both hated it.

We also went to see The Revenant which I loved but his only comment was 'well, that was long'.

Oh and Mad Max Fury Road which we walked out of before the end despite my unending love of Tom Hardy. I was really surprised to hear afterwards that it was brilliant and feminist as I didn't have a fucking clue what was happening through the whole thing. I was a bit pissed on that occasion though.

FixItUpChappie · 12/12/2016 04:23

I agree thisjust - the new mad max (and the old ones actually) - unwatchable....and I share your love of Tom Hardy.

WomanFromAnotherPlace · 12/12/2016 05:54

Films I hate that I never mention to others , just to avoid the outcries of (when it's a 'comedy') "Whaaaaahhh! But it is so funnnnyyy" cue people quoting the one-liners at me or just general films that are critically lauded:
Mad Max (Every. Single. One.)
Dirty Dancing
Monty Python Meaning of Life (fwiw do not think Holy Grail is that funny but do quite like Life of Brian)
Withnail and I
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Shaun of the Dead
Anything with Simon Pegg
Princess Bride
The Goonies
Elf
Bridesmaids

WomanFromAnotherPlace · 12/12/2016 06:00

Oh shit, hadn't rtft propetly but making my way through it now. Hate Grosse Point Blank.

lilyb84 · 12/12/2016 08:03

ET! Bill and Ted! Shaun of the Dead!!!

If you'd like me to sit down with you and re-watch each of these films while explaining how awesome they are I'd be happy to oblige!

I enjoy Elf but can see why others wouldn't - I think you need to be a Farrell fan.

And yy to fucking Amelie and Inception. The latter in particular went totally over my head - not in a cerebral sense, it says just the most flat, emotionless piece of show-off cinema I've ever seen.

Now back to ET...

lilyb84 · 12/12/2016 08:03

*it WAS ffs

DramaInPyjamas · 12/12/2016 10:10

The thing is with Elf, it's the forced jollyality of it.
If you disagree with the masses, then you're a humbug.

I don't believe half the Elf fans are really Elf fans at all, I reckon they are pretending to like it just to be part of something.
I've seen better movies on the low budget Christmas channels and that where I think Elf belongs, not touted as this big classic must-see movie.

(My favourite Christmas movies include Jingle All The Way, Deck The Halls and Christmas With The Kranks, so I am in no position to judge Elf lovers! 😁)

badabing36 · 12/12/2016 10:29

Yy to lost in translation.

I never pretended to like it, I just sat there thinking you're both a pair of massive shits and I hope you do run off together, you deserve each other.

Honestly I know I'm ranting but she had supposedly just married her husband and she was already annoyed at him? For what? Working hard, taking her to Tokyo and buying her horrible white pants?

Oh yes and refusing to slag some actress off for the crime as not being as smart as them.

Meanwhile, poor Bill Murray's character can't quite enjoy his prostitute because he's too much of a racist to ignore her stereotypical accent.

Seriously the Japanese characters in that film are only slightly better than Micky Rooney in breakfast at tiffany's, another ridiculously overrated film.

Toocleverbyhalf2 · 12/12/2016 10:57

It's a wonderful life, massive pile of sentimental shit Xmas Blush

cushioncovers · 12/12/2016 11:18

Can I also add

ET

Stepbrothers

Stuart fucking Little, dear god three films of that little bastard.

Spice girls movie

Speed 2

Avatar

The latest Jurassic park film was a huge disappointment

CockacidalManiac · 12/12/2016 11:19

I saw withnail 11 times in the cinema blush

Oh, Daisy. As if I didn't have a MN crush already due to your drawing ability! And now you post this too.

Temporaryname137 · 12/12/2016 11:22

WTF. How can you hate dirty dancing? HOW???????????!!

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/12/2016 11:29

Avatar. I understand it took years to make. What a waste of time.

I am usually quite good with films. 10 seconds and I can tell if I am going to like it.

Also if it has won an Oscar then I dismiss it immediately. Usually Oscar winners are full of overly long shots of nice scenery and or loads of angst ridden people.

Give me guns and car chases anyday

Jonsnowsghost · 12/12/2016 11:38

Temporaryname37 because it's rubbish! It seems to be that women automatically have to like it but it's just dull drivel.

Hated Avatar as well...soooo long. Also don't like Lord of the rings (but do like Harry Potter!)

Temporaryname137 · 12/12/2016 11:42

But... But the dancing. And the music. And Patrick's back. Swoon!

Crankycunt · 12/12/2016 11:48

Elf is just fucking creepy.

plastique · 12/12/2016 11:51

Ok ok let's just leave Elf alone right now!
Let's get back to hating Field of Dreams Wink

OP posts:
VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 12/12/2016 11:57

Blimmin' Star Wars.
In fact, any space shit.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 12/12/2016 12:15

I find a lot of films dull.

Avatar was shit. Dirty dancing = shit.

AI was shit. Flash dance and all those era (top gun etc) = shit

Any of the later star wars were just an excuse for the props and costume departments to spend lots.

Loads of films are just chewing gum for the eyes.

The80sweregreat · 12/12/2016 12:20

ive never seen star wars - again, my two are obsessed by it all. the bits I have seen ( the 1977 first one?) was on constantly in the 80s on tv and I just used to see a princess ( ?) swinging on a rope thing, in space (?) that is it. I have no clue who is who or who is the baddie or goodie or anything. People believe I am mad. ( it defined our youth - why don't you watch it mum? mum...?) er, no thanks son.

I agree about' Oscar winner' films too - they are made just to get awards I think.
did pretend to like Dirty dancing as my friends loved it , but I realise I wasn't being true to myself really. I think sometimes we just say things to 'fit in' ( as with Grease, which took me years to realise was a terrible film with no morals or values and should never have been made)..

limitedperiodonly · 12/12/2016 12:28

Haven't RTFT.

I hate:

Thelma and Louise
Dirty Dancing
Grease
An Officer And A Gentleman

I find Field Of Dreams and Withnail And I merely boring in comparison.
