I've pretended to like Field of Dreams for at least 10 years.. It's utter nonsense! Brought it up today with a mate.. Haha she hates Withnail & I but has always maintained she was a fan!!! If you understand where we're coming from. What film to you secretly hate that everyone else apparently loves ???

Don't tend to lie about not liking films but I have changed my mind about films I've previously lauded upon re-watching them and realising they're drivel. Goonies and Neverending Story - I think you just need to be a kid to enjoy them.

My DH makes me watch Clockwork Orange every few years and doesn't understand why I still don't like it. I think I just don't like Kubrick as I also hate The Shining even though on paper I should love it.

Also didn't rate Bridesmaids and didn't think it was the feminist masterpiece everyone else made it out to be.

DH and I are unanimous in hating pretty much anything with Ryan Gosling and people have gotten a bit funny with me in the past about that for some strange reason. Like Drive was some kind of masterpiece? Hmm

EastMidsMummy · 11/12/2016 20:14

Dead Poets Society
Withnail - yes

GriefLeavesItsMark · 11/12/2016 20:19

Jonsnowsghost, I never saw Amelie because the poster of her simpering through her fingers annoyed me so much. My Dh saw it and he said it would have made me angry. Very angry.

ForalltheSaints · 11/12/2016 20:27

Have to agree with the fourth person on this thread about Mrs Browns Boys- apparently the most watched tv programme last Christmas Day. If the film is as bad, then must be one of the worst ever made.

MrsJayy · 11/12/2016 20:31

I think im the only person to say Its a wonderful life doesnt make my christmas i think its miserable

RoboticSealpup · 11/12/2016 20:33

Citizen Kane is utterly awful. But then I hate most old films, especially the blaring, overly dramatic music and contrived 'not quite English, not quite American' accents.

GreyHare · 11/12/2016 20:38

There is lots of films I don't like and lots that I do, but I have never lied and pretended to like one! OP why did you pretend to like a film, it just such a bizarre thing to do?

zukiecat · 11/12/2016 20:38

There are so many films I hate!

Not secretly though, I have no problem in saying I hate them

Dirty Dancing
Grease
Ghost
Any Superhero film

Any Robin Williams film

There are so many more, I'm not a big film fan at all

zukiecat · 11/12/2016 20:41

Oh yes Elf!

I detest that film!

plastique · 11/12/2016 20:53

Greyhare... To sadly fit in with my crowd! At least I'm owning it and admitting it now lol... Also hate Notting Hill!! Ha ha there it's now out there

plastique · 11/12/2016 20:54

Elf?? What about the cute singing in the shower scene?!?!?

Ethylred · 11/12/2016 20:55

This is a bit negative, let's cheer ourselves up with some things worth watching.

Paths of Glory (heartbreaking)

Barry Lyndon (visual bliss)

Performance (Mick Jagger's finest role)

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 11/12/2016 20:56

Shawhank is maudlin crap. In fact most Stephen King adaptations are (The Shining and Misery are exceptions)
Sweeping generalisation there Robotic! I love old films, and Kane is fantastic.
I managed to write A level film studies essays on Titanic without actually watching it all.
My particular bete noires are nasty horrors. Torture porn type things like Hostel. And lazy films, where the stars are just there going through their lines for the cash (yes, you Mr DeNiro) and the script has been written by committee-no art, no entertainment, no emotion.

SenecaFalls · 11/12/2016 21:10

The English Patient. That's two hours I'll never get back.

Dirty Dancing always grossed me out a bit. Isn't she supposed to be about 16? The age gap made it creepy.

She is 17, close to 18, has graduated from high school and is a few weeks from starting university. Johnny is 25. So not such a huge gap.

Pumperthepumper · 11/12/2016 21:17

Not a film but I don't get South Park at all. I was in high school when it was really popular so I'm the right age for it but it just totally passed me by.

lilyb84 · 11/12/2016 21:21

I just renumbered DH and I started watching Dirty Grandpa the other day and found it completely vile. And we like some pretty shit films (Adam Sandler, Harold and Kumar and Jay and Silent Bob are all welcome on our telly Wink). It was beyond offensive and I'm NOT easily offended...

lilyb84 · 11/12/2016 21:22

Renumbered? Is that even a word, Samsung?!

fruityb · 11/12/2016 21:24

Inception - hated it
The departed - I got so bored I turned over

I'll never agree about Withnail - it's one of my absolute favourites

Nicknameofawesome · 11/12/2016 21:38

Dirty dancing is utter bollocks. I'm not quiet about it though.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 11/12/2016 21:42

I never saw Amelie either because of the poster! I imagine it was a sort of prototype New Girl, where you pray for the kooky access to fall down a very deep sinkhole?

SenecaFalls · 11/12/2016 21:42

Dirty Dancing has a strong feminist vibe. Johnny actually learns more from Baby than she does from him.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 11/12/2016 21:43

I hate all french films (that I have seen).
They are all shit and the characters are all loathsome.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 11/12/2016 21:44

LOVE dirty dancing! The script is great! I carried a watermelon! ?

ipswichwitch · 11/12/2016 21:49

Also, Bridget Jones is shit. Whoever said that it's a caricature for a British way of life that doesn't exist upthread is right.

Nicknameofawesome · 11/12/2016 21:53

LOVE dirty dancing! The script is great!

Wait there was a script? I missed that bit...
