'I can't even cook cheese on toast'

Prepared to be told IABU.
Having coffee with a relatively new friend, I said something about making Christmas dinner, she then said that she 'couldn't even make cheese on toast'. I was visibly gobsmacked and as it turns out she really can't cook anything!
She was really offended that I was so surprised, and told me she'd always been too busy to learn. I've offered to help her with some basics but she's ignored my message and cancelled our DS's playing together Shock
To not drip feed I was really shocked, going 'what not even. ....' and questioning what her kids eat probably a bit too much.
But really, wouldn't you be shocked if a 40 year old couldn't cook anything at all?

Guacamole? No. I cannot eat avocados. They make me very very ill.

But oh yes, nothing tastes quite as good as a burrito. I have most of the stuff to put in it, except refried beans. I'll have to get some of those.

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 17:46

Ooh refried beans are lovely, unfortunately my stomach doesn't agree 😭 I can't eat them!

I'm not a fan of sweet potato, because it's sweet. The kids love it though, mashed, chips, soup, wedges.

Soubriquet · 08/12/2016 17:47

I don't like cooking sweet potato

Hurts my hand chopping it all up

GingerIvy · 08/12/2016 17:49

Don't chop it, just cook it like a jacket potato. Yum!!!

We had sweet potato chips at Giraffe recently. Very tasty.

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 17:52

I've got one of those weird chopper things that makes chips. It makes it much easier. It was my granny's, I reckon she never saw a sweet potato in her life 😂

Seriously, what kind of halfwit can't cook! Basic life skill, surely!

Wow, aren't you a charmer? Hmm

We've moved on (which of course you'd know if you'd RTFT).

We're discussing sweet potatoes now.

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 17:57

I bake them and then chuck some creamed spinach on top. The kids love it, I'll happily eat the spinach but not the sweet potato.
Yeah, the whole halfwits can't cook was half a thread ago 😂 It's all booze, avocados and sweet potatoes now 😁

SVJAA creamed spinach recipe please!
Didn't someone on bake off make a gin and tonic drizzle cake this year? Sweet potato fries and mash yes, but in the toaster???

HandbagCrab · 08/12/2016 18:31

I believe that the quinine in the tonic was meant to ward off malaria so g&t is really a healthfood.

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 18:34

Mog I leave out the nutmeg because none of us are keen but it's really tasty without too.

A treat topping for baked sweet potato is also a marshmallow (this is a Southern USA Thanksgiving special).

I was once told that Hendricks should contain sliced cucumber so if you vary your gin during the evening you could hit three of your five a day.

mogloveseggs · 08/12/2016 18:39

hoops you are right it is served with cucumber I'm not a gin fan but a bartender

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 18:41

I don't know if it's gin or tonic that I don't like. I'll stick to wine.

mogloveseggs · 08/12/2016 18:45

SVJAA thanks for the recipe! Looks delicious!

MyWitlessPal · 08/12/2016 18:47

Can't cook doesn't exist if there are no disabilities present.

Won't cook is the truth of the matter.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/12/2016 18:49

Well that's for your searing insight there, Witless - if you can be arsed to read the whole thread you would see it's moved on

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/12/2016 18:51

*thanks

MistressPage · 08/12/2016 18:52

Lol at being told off for not reading the whole thread!

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 18:54

Livia that made me laugh!
