'I can't even cook cheese on toast'

Prepared to be told IABU.
Having coffee with a relatively new friend, I said something about making Christmas dinner, she then said that she 'couldn't even make cheese on toast'. I was visibly gobsmacked and as it turns out she really can't cook anything!
She was really offended that I was so surprised, and told me she'd always been too busy to learn. I've offered to help her with some basics but she's ignored my message and cancelled our DS's playing together Shock
To not drip feed I was really shocked, going 'what not even. ....' and questioning what her kids eat probably a bit too much.
But really, wouldn't you be shocked if a 40 year old couldn't cook anything at all?

Yeah Fizz except I can't drink most of the time... so that will be my what (8 units of alcohol with the champagne) for probably a year.

FizzBombBathTime · 08/12/2016 16:12

hot chocolate out of the tassimo with a packet of hobnobs

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 16:13

Fizz and Ginger wait up I'm coming too!

My kids have a healthy, balanced diet but I don't spend all day every day obsessing over it. That's not healthy even if the food is!

FizzBombBathTime · 08/12/2016 16:13

Hoops if you drunk a bit more you wouldn't be able to remember two weeks worth of menus

When I'm shit faced oven chips are the squirrels nuts

HoopsandEverything · 08/12/2016 16:15

Fizz as I said before, Im having to keep a food diary - everything I've eaten is written down at the moment.

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 16:20

Well I'm off to make tea for my kids. And laugh and have fun. You know that thing people do when they're not joyless and have no sense of humour.

FizzBombBathTime · 08/12/2016 16:21

SV if you use pre chopped onions I'm calling the old bill

mogloveseggs · 08/12/2016 16:21

Everything in moderation. Something will get you no matter what you cut out. Some kids won't eat healthy stuff neither will some husbands yes I'm looking at you dh tea out sounds fab I don't want bolognese now

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 16:22

Fizz me? Never 😂

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/12/2016 16:24

It does annoy me a bit too, as people tend to sound a bit proud of not being able to cook. It's not like it's difficult to boil pasta & bung on pesto, or cook rice and fry some veg.

Those examples aren't great - pasta is okay, never had pesto (and probably never will, it sounds rank), hate rice and only eat raw vegetables.

DailyFail1 · 08/12/2016 16:25

Pesto isn't cooking it's blending Grin

FizzBombBathTime · 08/12/2016 16:25

My grandmother ate pre chopped onions in 2004, she's dead now

I ain't sayin nothin...

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 16:30

Fizz where to you stand on potato letters that spell Boden, naice, avocado and suchlike Grin

lizzieoak · 08/12/2016 16:34

Livia, why does pesto sound rank? Your basic pesto is just basil, pine nuts, olive oil, garlic, & Parmesan.

GingerIvy · 08/12/2016 16:37

Ew. You're not helping your case here. Honestly, I am all for healthy food, but not Euell Gibbons style. Hmm May as well go chew on tree bark. Hmm

FizzBombBathTime · 08/12/2016 16:39

Pesto tastes like Lino that's been pissed on by a dog

Don't you dare ask how I know that.

GingerIvy · 08/12/2016 16:40

SVJAA You've got to be so careful nowadays. Inferior potato letter packages and all that.

GingerIvy · 08/12/2016 16:40

Fizz How do you know that? Grin

Sorry. Couldn't help it.....

HoopsandEverything · 08/12/2016 16:41

"Pesto tastes like Lino that's been pissed on by a dog "

If you ate that you're really scoring some bonus points in variation of diet there Fizz.

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 16:41

Fizz have you been licking the kitchen floor again? We've talked about this 😂 Haha Ginger oh dear I shall have to shuffle off to Waitrose to buy my superior potato letters. I wonder if they do uppercase? 😁

SVJAA · 08/12/2016 16:42

I like homemade pesto with spinach in it too, uber mega vitamin points there! (But I actually eat it cos it's tasty, my kids can't bear pesto)

PoorYorick · 08/12/2016 16:43

That raw food page is all smoothies and stuff on celery. Nice accompaniments but hardly enough for a growing child.

GingerIvy · 08/12/2016 16:47

Just when we were having fun.

Okay... once again....

Just because the parent can't cook, that does not mean that a child will not get hot meals. There is a difference between "providing" hot meals and "cooking" hot meals.

Have people been forgetting to RTFT again?? Hmm

GingerIvy · 08/12/2016 16:47

Now... back to pisssssto pesto.....

HoopsandEverything · 08/12/2016 16:48

SVJAA It's also really nice with whipped up avocado on cool dishes in the summer...
