Builder nicked my candle!

maiacam · 06/12/2016 13:50

Hi I had a limited edition Jo Malone candle in my downstairs loo that had never been used and has been treasured since 2009.
We have builders working in the garden this week and have come in to use loo twice yesterday.
Noticed candle has disappeared and it was 100 percent there yesterday. Both builders are acting normal and friendly.
AIBU to feel rather miffed. Haven't said anything DH wants to but I am not so sure.

Help!

I'd be very suprised if a builder knew a jo Malone candle would be worth money.

Are you serious? Some of them may have very high maintenance wives. Grin

They are tradesmen not neanderthals or aliens.

I think the cleaner got the blame in the last xxxx stole my fancypants candle shock horror revelation

I cba to advance search but I think it was just back in the summer.

Are you sure it's not all in your imagination OP ;)

Massive deja vu. I feel I have read this thread word for word already Confused

SuburbanRhonda · 06/12/2016 15:43

A "collaboration" candle?

Jesus wept.

ceecee32 · 06/12/2016 15:44

I have read all this before....about a year ago I think

maiacam · 06/12/2016 15:45

Its not in my imagination I wish it was tbh
I only know it was there yesterday and then it wasn't
I agree it is strange but I have no connection to any other missing candles anything else

I have a candle in my bathroom that's only there because it matches the colour scheme...

It's only a £9 Yankee Candle though

And it's only been there one year as opposed to seven.

maiacam · 06/12/2016 15:46

suburbanrhonda - lol it was my only one I don't collect them

19th June it was last posted. Cleaner or builder/electrician

Serialweightwatcher · 06/12/2016 15:47

I'm not a builder and I like scented wax melts, not so much candles, but I've never heard of Jo Malone hides ........ could have been knocked off shelf but also could have been nicked for builder's other half or even himself. Would have thought it would take a bit of cleaning up if it was in glass so builder would have to come clean or walk about with bits of glass in his pockets, otherwise must have been pinched

maiacam · 06/12/2016 15:48

TBH spunbodge its not the fact it was 42 quid or that I had it 7 years its the fact that it has disappeared

OP posts:
maiacam · 06/12/2016 15:49

it wasnt glass more ceramic serialweightwatcher

maiacam sorry didn't realise, still would be sharp and uncomfortable to stuff in his pocket .... think you may need to mention it being missing and see what happens - it may appear back there again hopefully. We had builders a while back and one of my mugs got nicked - wasn't a nice one but from a set of 4 - I nagged all the builders and it appeared back 2 days later Grin Good luck - hope it's returned

Suppermummy02 · 06/12/2016 15:53

Some builders working on a house down my street...

Just asked them what they thought about Jo Malone candles and if they would like one. They all said they had never heard of Jo Malone and candles weren't really their thing.

But they did have a good laugh when I told them a group of mums were debating why their builder stole a dusty 7 year old one from a toilet of a client.

JustSpeakSense · 06/12/2016 15:58

I asked my builder if he liked jo malone, he said he's never met him Grin

how can you treasure a candle if you don't light it? doesn't it just sit there getting all dusty?

just ask them if they broke it or saw it, simples

getdownshep · 06/12/2016 16:09

My dh is a plumber. A woman he worked for used to light Diptyque candles, decide she didn't like them and chuck them in the skip outside!
He didn't get them out as unfortunately as he had never heard of themSad

maiacam · 06/12/2016 16:12

I know its bizarre just been to look at skip its not in there!
Maybe it will come back tomorrow when the glue might have set if they dropped it

Oh my God, OP, you're killing me.please just ask them. You don't need to hiss and spit in their face, screeching "which one of you bastards stole my naice candle?!?!"
Just say that there was a candle in the bathroom, have you moved it?
If you blush, flutter your eyelids too and they'll think you're all coy and pretty and probably be even more helpful feminism woo!

I swear I'll come round and ask them myself in a minute, and I have social anxiety so would likely vomit on them in angst.

hollyisalovelyname · 06/12/2016 16:16

OP a lot of people are taking the Michael with you.
If it were me I'd be bloody annoyed.
A painter knicked a little radio I had once. It was small, with presets and I found it sooo useful as I am a radio fan and it was pre my smartphone. It was probably worth about €35.
I was fuming but couldn't accuse anybody.

Atenco · 06/12/2016 16:17

I'm glad I'm not the only one with de ja vu! As soon as I clicked on this thread I checked the date as I was sure it was a zombie one

Me too. I was wondering if the builder had finally brought the candle back.

Atenco · 06/12/2016 16:17

Maybe it's a Christmas promotion!

FilledSoda · 06/12/2016 16:22

I'm married to a builder and yes he does indeed know what Jo Malone is , he knows not to buy then because I prefer diptyque.
Do you think builders are paupers or don't like nice things ? Hmm
A lot of assumptions about builders here
